I think the set itself is lovely and simple, which is always nice, especially if the plan is to have it continually available. The kitting could be adjusted, but others would be better suited to speak to that. As a 40s user, I am a bit out of touch on that front...
Following all of that up though, I first want to second the comment(s) that encouraged an ongoing donation commitment, since plans for the group buy have changed. The gesture would still be appreciated either way, but it would really make it clear that it isn't just for publicity's sake but rather part of an ongoing commitment to stand by our black communities!
Finally, I 100% agree with the following:
[...] Nothing about this set says anything about black history, black lives matter etc. Its a great looking set, but for me .. i don't see the connection
Given that the set was conceptualized before the donation aspect was finalized, it's understandable, but going forward, I think it would go a long way if you or other designers would work to design and produce a set with that much more firmly in mind. There are so many Japanese inspired sets (beautiful ones, surely, but
a lot), and I think that it would be very cool if you or another designer were to pick up an idea inspired by African American culture to headline a BLM donation set.
I am no designer, but I whipped up two super quick concepts with some simple svgs I found on google, just to get a sense of some of the options that would be available. Since I made them, I picked things that were near and dear to me, with the first set inspired by one of my literary heroes, James Baldwin, and
If Beale Street Could Talk and the second inspired by Spike Lee's
Do the Right Thing. Unfortunately I really have very little idea about how to run a group buy and other people are surely much better designers, but I was inspired by the idea of creating a set to celebrate black history and art, and I sincerely hope somebody more capable would be eager to work on a project like one of these.
