Interested. Also interested in Alps version.
Model M Industrial, SSK, Unicomp 104, Code TKL MX Green, FC660M MX Green + Clear + White + Grey, FC660C Topre 45g, MagicForce 68 USB and Bluetooth, Whitefox, some optical switch 65% Bluetooth split spacebar thing ... wait, I think I need an intervention. Too late, there’s a couple of new Model Fs on the way.
Too much SA is never enough.

First of all, I really admire you. The project is very interesting and worth watching. The idea of making a curved keyboard is not new, but no one has solved it yet. (in custom keyboard) I have also thought about it, the plan is to separate each Round into each pcb and plate. But doing so will make the center of the plate very sag when typing if doing the top mount. PCB mount can be partially solved but inside the case it will be relatively difficult to cnc.

Just came across this on the key dot co and I'm really excited for the group buy whenever that opens up.

Would the solenoid be able to be turned on and off?
Either through a key command or function in QMK or some kind of switch on the bottom or back of the case?

Not the runner, but the answer to that is almost certainly yes.

There definitely would be a toggle keymap for it. Just like the Beamspring controller has it. There's also folks who have put solenoids inside their regular MX custom cases.

I wonder whether a curved PCB is going to be a problem.  Would the flex stress make it more likely to crack over time?  Could the stretch/compression of the traces be a problem long-term?

That’s not preferable for quite a few people - I’ve got an SSK and a couple of full size Model Ms and I gravitate toward the M with three keys to the left of Space as that’s where my muscle memory assumes my fingers will find ctrl/alt/win/apple/whatever.
The OP gets to make the decisions about what they want to build - it’s their project - but having a crack at others for making an observation on what layout they’d prefer isn’t particularly helpful. I’m another who thinks this is a cool project, but won’t buy it if it’s only available win key less.
LOL.
Model M Industrial, SSK, Unicomp 104, Code TKL MX Green, FC660M MX Green + Clear + White + Grey, FC660C Topre 45g, MagicForce 68 USB and Bluetooth, Whitefox, some optical switch 65% Bluetooth split spacebar thing ... wait, I think I need an intervention. Got my prototype PCB today ;D

Based on the Prototype PCB, It looks like you can have three modifiers next to the spacebar, so a winkey should fit in the 1U space between CTRL and ALT. Assuming this ever gets made...

Might be it has already be considered:

How can the hotswap pcb design accommodate the per-row convex curving design of the SSK?

Edit: it read it such a long time ago, including the discussion of the flex solution... but solution has not yet been announced (for so long that I forgot having read that).

switches may have to be placed with a wider vertical spacing than the standard 19.05mm to avoid the keycaps crowding. i don't think placing and removing the switches would be an issue since they taper to the top of the switch, and worse case scenario, each switch would have to be placed one after another in a column rather like slating the roof of a house.

personally i'd love to try a 3d printed preonic clone with a curved integrated plate like what OP is doing with this model m clone.

Here's the only issue I have with this board. As somebody who only very recently moved off of daily driving a Model M for a decade, that little ridge across the bottom of the board may be seen as an integral part of the design and you may think it's necessary to achieve the look that you're going for, but adding it to a modern board just for the sake of homage would be a massive mistake. You'd either need to make it wider or axe it all together in my opinion. I kept my Model M immaculate. I cleaned it all the time, full disassembly probably every six months for a full decade of use, but that ridge is nigh impossible to clean out, and we're talking about a plastic board where I'm willing to sit and try to scrape it out with a hobby knife, an anodized aluminum board with that ridge would be torture. For your sake and everybody else's, at least render it out once without that ridge and decide from there.
