[IC] People's Choice RGBYK keycaps
« on: Tue, 19 March 2013, 13:39:19 »
I have too much going on right now, so...

I would like to run a Group Buy for people's choices of RGBYK keys in various sizes.  I have keyboards that need 1.25 mods, other that need 1.0 mods, I need 2.75 Shift_R on some keyboards and 1.75 Shift_R on others.  So like many people I have been buying larger kits and having leftovers, and so far have not had good luck in finding any.  And I am forever needing blank Black bottom-row keycaps, so those are in as well.

Shift in Green (1.0, 1.75, 2.25, 2.75)
Control in Red (1.0, 1.25, 1.50)
Alt in Blue (1.0, 1.25, 1.50)
Diamond, "Fn", or Win-logo in Yellow (1.0, 1.25, 1.50)

And to match:

Escape in Red (1.0)
Arrow keys in Red (qty 4 1.0)
Blanks in all colors (1.0, 1.25, 1.50) - bottom row only
Blanks in Black (1.0, 1.25, 1.50) - bottom row only

Probably RA (now RDD), VCJ, BFK, and YY for Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow.
Probably NN for Black keycaps and legends.  Possibly WFK legends as well.

Probable RGBY color samples in ABS double-shot from SP.

Traditional legends.  DCS profile.  High-speed group buy.

Are enough people interested that I should get pricing and set up a web-form?

Please reply if interested.

TL;DR Reply to this thead if you are interested in your choice of sizes of RGBY keycaps.

Thanks!

This is as simple as I can make it and still support everything that has been requested.  Note that most keyboards can be populated with a few of the standard kits.  However, the Race is so special it needs one of its own AND a wide-body arrow kit.

All of these keys use Black (NN) legends for simplicity.  If there is a great outcry I can change the legends to White ( WFK) to match Klaxon.

These would be the kits on a Google Form -- please reply to show your interest!

What is the legend?  Just the arrow?

Oh, also, sure!

I think it would be better if the legend is the same as on the other shift caps, so they don't look weird when they're mixed together on the keyboard.

I agree.  My question was really what do ISO keyboards normally use for legends on the 1.25 shift key.  I suppose the arrow and the shift key do indeed fit.

Can you throw some WASD/Arrow Cluster options in there, too? :D

I will do arrows since they are on the same row as the mods, so they will pull the cost of the 1.0 caps down.  On the other hand, WASD would add two new rows, and that W is alone, so it would drive the cost up.

However, it is not an accident that I picked the same red as Klaxon, so those will also match.

me too, any legend (I don't think that room is enough to fit arrow+shift legend if you use Cherry font anyway)

Ah, okay. Yes that's right, the standard ISO shift keys only have an arrow as legend.

I going to be picking up a smaller board soon. Most of the choices I'm considering have odd sized keys(race, choc mini) so I would most likely be all over this.

Some people may be interested in 1.25 arrow keys for the Race as well.

Yes, I didn't even think about 1.25 arrow keys.  Those could also be useful on a Poker.

Would adding space bar be too expensive?

Yes, and it would be out of scope for this group buy.

== EOD Update ==

I have requested pricing from SP.  I will now ponder reasonable "kits" like we used for the Retro DSA buy.  Examples might include:

qty 4: 1.00 Arrow Keys in RDD/NN (BoR)
qty 4: 1.2x Arrow Keys in RDD/WFK (WoR)
qty 3: 1.25 "Ctrl", Diamond, and "Alt" in RDD, YY, and BFK with legends in WFK (WoRYB)
qty 4: 1.25, 1.75, 2.25, and 2.75 Shift in VCJ with legends in NN (BoG)
qty 7: 7x 1.25 row 4 blanks in NN
(Ok, so that last one might go well with a matching 6.25 universal space bar.  I'll consider it.)

Enough interest was generated in 6 hours for me to get pricing and make a form.  So I will do that.

What about a GMK-GB for this RGB's, maybe plus "normal" moogle-kit (beige/white & black/white)?

Unfortunately all intended moogle-gb's were cancelled when GMK was discovered last year. And since than nothing happened, except from lysol's GMK-GB (which is cool) and this one store who offers only very limited RGB kits and where you have to buy a full set to get some beige/white modifiers.

And Race, and GH-60...

Apparently lots of people have non-ANSI keyboards and want RGB keycaps.

Prices will depend on order volume.  No estimates at all yet.

Too small for GMK, and only RGBYK this time, but maybe later.

I don't know enough about Moogling to answer that question.  But if there is a combination of planned mods that makes a Moogle, I'm happy to offer it as a kit.

===

Thanks for your input, all.

Also, please post your interest and requests in the thread so I will be able to find it later.  If you haven't done a GB before, you seriously wouldn't believe the sheer volume of PMs they generate.

Why do the kits have "qty 1" for Ctrl and Alt keys in the kit, and "qty 2" for the yellow win/diamond key?

So for one keyboard would I simply say:
Qty 1:   1.25x RBY kit
Qty 1:   ISO Shift kit

Qty 1:  1.25x Blue Alt key
Qty 1:  1.25x Red Ctrl key

+1 for white legends!

Two yellows, e.g. a WIN and a MENU, are in each 1.25RYB kit.

An ISO TKL would take:

1 ISO Shift kit
2 1.25 RYB sets (2x WIN, 1x MENU, 1X Fn)

And you would get everything you needed, including an extra yellow.

2x Green Shift in 1.25 & 1.75
2x Red Control in 1.25
2x Blue Alt in 1.25
2x Yellow WIN in 1.25
1x Yellow MENU in 1.25
1x Yellow Fn in 1.25

Does that make sense?  I must make pictures...

So what's the next step? An IC with what kits we would be interested in? Will you have tiered target pricing to give an idea of what this would cost?

I'm interested in 4 RYB 1.25 kits, and 2 ISO Shift kits. Keen to see how much that would set me back with the GH60 being around the corner.

Still wishing the legends were white :/

May be you should just create a poll with each key cap separately as a choice so people can vote what they want in their kit.

1.25 ctrl x 2
1.25 alt x 2
1.5 ctrl x 2
1.5 alt x 2
ISO shift x 1
1.75 shift x 1

and so on.

1.5 ctrl x 2
1.5 alt x 2
ISO shift x 1
1.75 shift x 1

and so on.

That was my first thought, but the list was soooo long. I will try to accomplish that feat nevertheless.

Ok, Legend color.  To contain costs we need to pick a single legend color.  Black or White as indicated in the OP.

Personally I think that Black will go better with more keycaps, and will certainly be the only choice if we go PBT, but assuming ABS doubleshots, which legend color would you prefer?

Black legends or White?

I do not have any White on Yellow keycaps to look at, but based on the chips and the images, I think the legends will wash out.  But enough people have asked, so here goes:

Black or White legends?  Which would you buy?

Please reply here.

Thanks!

Going with White, and SEVEN kits to make all our little boards complete.  WoR will match Klaxon.

16728-0
Three kits for almost any keyboard.

Raw costs at 25 and 100 sets:
Shift Kit:16.719.20
100 Kit:17.525.76
125 Kit:18.686.92
150 Kit:7.186.86
Arrow Kit:18.686.92
Race Kit:20.9011.76
Poker Kit:18.686.92

So to buy enough for a board:

104/TKL (ANSI or ISO) takes 3 kits:
1 Shift Kit and 2 125 Kits.

WKL or Winkey 150 (ANSI or ISO) takes 3 kits:
1 Shift Kit and 2 150 Kits.

Poker takes 3 kits:
1 Shift Kit, 1 125 Kit and 1 (optional) Poker Kit.

Race takes 4 kits, one including the very special Klaxon Escape and Delete Row 1 pair:
1 Shift Kit, 1 125 Kit, 1 Arrow Kit, and 1 Race kit.

I'll work out the other specials later (e.g. Choco Mini, Pure, and the GH60 variations.)

These combinations are designed to reduce the overall cost for everyone AND to enable every keyboard to have one or both of:
a) A complete RGBY set that fits.
b) A complete Klaxon set that fits.

Below is an image of a Race with Klaxon RoW plus the RGBY Choice sets.

Any chance of some discounted price if we want the whole lot as a set??

Might be a good idea for an early GHer like me, because I could eventually see myself needing most of those keys over the years.

And race Fn should be any other colour than red imo.

I agree. Oh Klaxon Master, how about RoW for the Row 1 Fn keycap? It will be expensive in this buy and cheap in yours.

Hmmm. Perhaps. Especially if we need to buy some extras for MOQ.

Depending if it gets a bit cheaper, I might order enough for 2 boards. But currently I'm in for:
1 x  Shift set
2 x  125 set

Well, this is still an interest check, so that has not been decided.  However, we have much interest in White legends, which for now means ABS.

So assume ABS double-shots unless you read something from ME that says otherwise.

You can do DS PBT through SP, who knows how much it is, though.

But THAT won't match Klaxon!

Thank you samwisekoi.
So ... it'll be around $75 + shipping to get a set for my Race ... it's a bit expensive to me. I'll check back later then. Thanks  :D
