Have to work twice as hard while d-bags call you 'honey' and 'sweetheart'.
I am now officially a douchebag. Source: inanis.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

As a general rule, if you are male call your female coworker 'honey', it is basically saying 'oh, isn't adorable the lady is trying to play office.'. The only exception would be if you are in a relationship or if it is a joke between friends.

To be fair tho, it is a trigger for me, so I'm hypersensitive about it. It is also possible that it is viewed differently in other areas. But here, I'm pretty spot on in my assessment.

You're all less geeky than I had initially presumed.
True. I think I look the part of a geek compared to everyone else's pictures that I see I here.

At least it's teaching me not to pre judge.

I've never heard someone call a woman "honey" or "sweety" in the places I've worked except one job when I was younger. It was one guy who said it. He never said it in a way which made me think he was putting anyone down.

The job I have now is very PC though. Not, many people would get away with saying sweety.

I thought honey was a good word...

I've never called any one honey... I've always just said Hi, <statement>,  without directly addressing via pronoun.

Honey is a good word in the proper context. But in this context it is said by a man to put a woman in her place. Example:

Me:*explains something technical*
Douche: listen honey, I know you are a "sys admin", but I'd rather wait for a real tech to weigh in.

This has happened to me multiple times. It makes me lose my mind. Also, if I'm bold enough to speak on the topic, I'm usually right which only makes them more annoyed the next time they deal with me

Seriously tho, I am not one to assume the best of someone under even the finest of circumstances. Never mind when they are being a sexist meanie.  So all you guys out there, be nice to your female co workers. At least they ones that are good at their job. If they are terrible, then feel free to be awful. But don't assume their being female is why they are awful. Equal opportunity and all that.

Well,  to be "fair".. hahahahaha.. here goes..

MANY of these crude, sexist guyz in IT,  are the same guys you females wouldn't haz seks with during highschool--through--college--

So, the fact that they're a bit resentful and behave awkwardly around females, is primarily to Cover for their inability to overcome their #Ronery mentality...

My wife is a chef and the honey/sweetie thing is something she deals with when they bring in new chefs. She's able to back herself up well and can be quite the ball buster. I call her the Bear Jew now because of some of the stories I've heard.

That whole pet name thing is so crazy to use in a professional environment. Even more so when it comes off sexist.

I work construction so when women do show up from time to time most guys seem to not know how to act and I think they default to that **** out of discomfort.

Well, intent matters. For instance I have a co-worker from the UK and he calls everyone under the sun the c word. As an American, that is only a word I use in dire circumstances. However, I take no offense when he says it.

Also pepole from the south are much more likely to use something like darling, honey, sweetheart, than someone from anywhere else in the country. So intent matters there too.

However, if a man from New England calls a a woman sweetheart in the workplace in 99% of situations he is doing it to be a ****. Particularly in a STEM field. While it is less common, it is the same if a woman does it to a woman.

This thread is a poster for TL;DR

I think that you have to go back to the 100s to see a picture of TP4tissue

"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

3 kids for 3 days. Send HALP!
Hiding in that hoodie isn't going to help.  :p If it is sunny out there send them in the yard to clean up the left over leaves. All kids love leaves.

I know! When people change thier Avatar it messes me all up too. The pony was just for Halloween. I'll go back to my standard back and white band logos soon enough.  :thumb:

So in my work a few women call me "honey", I never paid attention before but now I'm wondering what the heck it means.

Women are allowed to do it. It's only sexist when men do it.

I'm not joking.
I see what you're saying.

But, I think context matters most.

How it is said. When it is said. The relationship the person has with the other person.

I had to wear a bra all day at work for losing a bet, HR loved it but they were part of the bet.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

I have a co-worker from the UK and he calls everyone under the sun the c word.
Are you sure he is not from Australia? It's like the UK but with better weather and smaller spiders

Women at other places call me that all the time. I don't blink once. Whenever a dude calls a women that, if they don't have that kind of relationship all heads turn.
