Too late but a 1.75 Up on the Extension kit would've made sense for the 60% arrowed usages

Regardless, it's a great set, and since it's too chaotic (in a good way), accuracy doesn't matter anyway

It's also a bit of a gut punch that one must purchase both the extension and the spacebar kit for the signature look

I see there is a lot of compatibility in the base kit (looks like even 40s), what keyboards/layouts would the extension be used to fill? Trying to figure out whether I should drop cash on that or skip and maybe squeeze for the ergo kit.

Isn’t the Symbol Shift key you have labeled as 2.00u in the Base kit meant to be 1.75u?

Maybe I'm dumb, but what is the extension kit for? Is it a novelty kit or a layout compat kit? I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what it is with the custom legends.

Was there ever a MOQ discussed?

My understanding is KAT/KAM has one single MOQ for the entire GB.  It is the total keycap units* sold, there are no individual kit MOQs.  I'm guessing Wraith has a 54,000u MOQ, but there are at least three possible levels so it could be different.

*for example, a 1U keycap is 1, an ISO enter is 2.75 (1.5+1.25), etc.

Quick color check: is the base plastic going to be blue-tinted gray?  How noticeable is the blue element with lower indoor lighting?  The renders show a bluish gray, but photographs of the sample caps are more toward neutral dark gray (I know it's difficult to get tints correctly in photos).  The main legends are a pale pink?

Also, is the matte but smooth texture of these caps going to be basically the same as for KAT caps?

Just an addon pack, basically.

The colors of the photo are the most accurate.
Yes the surface will be smooth af :thumb:

That helps, thanks.  So but to confirm, is there a slight pink-cream tint to the main legends?  Or is that a play of light to give that impression?  (I like it for the unusual color combinations, so I'm hoping the answer is yes).

If you're talking about the white, it's supposed to be a pure white :D

That's why I asked, since there are no color values listed that I could find, and the legends look off-white on those photographs.  Appreciate the quick replies :thumb: :-*

yeah, I tend to get rid of colors in the ICs when I already have the samples.
But since you're talking about that:
- Grey 5415 C / 5405 C
- Red Warm Red C / 1788 C
- Green 374 C
- Blue 2171 C / 2191 C
- Cyan 2905 C
- Magenta 529 C
- Yellow 101 C

We're working on contrast with the manufacturer atm to find the perfect balance :thumb:

biip doing pioneer work here - again - really awesome.

What I find best is compatibility: thanks to the uniform profile, it's possible to have Colevrak the easy way (just mind the homing keys) :thumb:

Also, with this I can finally upgrade the keycaps of my first mech (with exception of the dreaded 6.5u spacebar ), which has a quite weird setup: 2.25u left Control, 6.5 spacebar, 1u and 2u Shift ... it is going to look great with this, very retro.

Thank you for your diligent work!

So...
I was lucky enough to receive my KAM Starry Night set yesterday.  I REALLY wanted to test out this profile before buying another KAM set and I gotta say, I'm not disappointed at all. I love this glossy look, and they feel great. My fingers do not slide off these at all (this was my concern with the shiny coat). They're thicker and taller than DSA - DSA is really too small and feels a bit thin and cheap for me.  I was worried that the similar uniform profile might bother me but it doesn't at all.
Now I'm REALLY excited about this set and (I believe?) these will be more of a matte finish!  Will be fun to compare. In any case I LIKE the profile.
ALL IN!  :thumb:

BiiP, please take about 6 months off after Bushido. My wallet has had it!

Cracked and ordered the base, calc and spacebar kits. Now to design a Speccy inspired keyboard and numpad kit for them.

Matte molds have been finalized.
Color sampling is almost done (I'm waiting for the final yellow batch atm).
Then we should have a more precise ETA :thumb:

Keyreative is working on the last batch of samples. Sadly they had to delay all the sets a second time (first time because of Covid) due to Milkshake QC issues.
ETA was supposed to be September tho.

My bad, I tend to post updates on my discord server and forgot to post it there.
Due to the KAT Milkshake QC issue and the pandemic, the manufacturer timeline has been heavily affected. Keyreative is actually working on the production batch. ETA is early December.
Sorry for the delay, sorry for the lack of updates and sorry the inconvenience.

Here is a pic of approved samples, natural cloudy lighting, no adjustments.
Might do more soon.

Hi,

Am I missing something in the images, or are the images on the single-quote key on the intl-kit set "the wrong way around" for a UK keyboard?
E.g., I see the hash key has a large white # and smaller red ~, which is what I'd expect.
So I'd expect to see a white single-quote key, with a red @, but the colours are the other way around in the image of the intl-set set (bottom left)?
The base-kit key does have large white single quote, small red double quote, which is again what I'd expect.

I found the sets on candykeys, I think this is the best way to buy in UK? I am *very* excited:)

Most proxies have extras which they would let go. Some sell them immediately after the group buy period is over like Daily Clack. Some sell them once they have fulfilled orders like Novelkeys and ZFrontier.

The best way to know is to drop the proxies a query to see if they have extras of a set you're looking for and then subscribe to their newsletter to keep track of when they release the extras.

The legend spacing for each key is highly inconsistent. For example, the letter Q vs the letter U.

The U and the number 6 is about to fall off the edge of that keycap.

It really depends on the batch. Some people will receive their set with legends perfectly aligned (and centered) while others might have some issues.
That's up to the manufacturer who's doing the QC. And well you can't expect all-over dye-sub to be perfect.
Customers are free to contact the vendors if the issue is too blatant though.

Looks like novelkeys page has this set shipping out this month:

https://novelkeys.xyz/pages/updates

Its said that for quite a while. I saw someone in US hocking a set on mechmarket but they probably ordered from ZF
That’s still our latest estimate. zF is supposed to have the sets to us by the end of the month. If that changes, we will make an update on the page.

Dear all,

I have not followed the GB very carefully, my bad, but I joined.

Can I ask why the pictures of the samples are currently not available?

I would like to re-see them because I have just seen a supposed real KAM Wraith picture and it looks very different (too much blue tone with a very "sad" rainbows) from renders and from the samples that I have seen some time ago and I am worried about the real look of this set.

Cheers

Hey, my Imgur account got banned.

You can still find those over the internet though:

Note that the temperature of the pic is definitely too warm.

set came in today. Looks great and excited to try them out as my first KAM set.

I would say it is not quite as blue as the renders or samples seem. But that could be my monitor or the light i am in.

They’re a *little* lighter than I was expecting. My homing bars are all haloed, which I’m not thrilled about, but other than that, really happy with the set.

Squee! I got my extras (I'm in UK) from NovelKeys! Very pleased!
Edit: This is gone now->I have an international set, minus the UK "2", "3" and "¬" keys (which I'm using), if anyone needs them.

My first ever keyboard is pictured below my current one:)

I almost got one those extas from novel keys, but they didn't have any of the space bar novelty sets available, and i just had to have that as part of the set, so I had to pass. I hope theres another round one day. I'd actually prefer a white version..

I had a Timex-Sinclair 1500 with the rubber chicklets when I was a kid.  (still have it, but it hasn't been turned on since 1988)  I arrived at geekhack too late for this group buy, tho.

Oh, nice!
That's like a hybrid ZX-81/Spectrum, it seems! I sold all my Spectrum hardware a couple of years ago. I'd've kept hold of the Spectrum itself, but it was weird and glitchy and the keyboard wasn't working properly any more, so I eBayed it (all worth surprisingly much money!).

Candykeys said they'd make extras available after the main group buy ships, and I should subscribe to their mailing list to get notified.
It seems NovelKeys extras are sold out already (apart from international kit).

Edit: this is gone now->Ah, if anyone wants the international kit, I have all of it except 3 UK keys (2, 3, ¬), free to a good home (just pay postage), DM me or whatever.

Hi all,

I saw some pictures of the very lucky customers that have already got their own sets: all the pictures look very different from the sample ones (much more bluish/greenish than the sample grey), I think that the differences cannot be explained only by means of different pictures lights.

Are there some problems during the production of actual sets?

Is there a shipping timeline for EU customers and/or a timeline for new updates?

Regards

Your picture is "better" than others, but it seems still much more bluish than the sample pictures, thus, for me, it is still desirable to clarify if something happens during the production of actual sets. I hope that the GB runner and/or the producer can clarify soon the reason for such differences (and giving a shipping timeline for EU customers).

By the way, the picture I posted is not mine, it is only a side-by-side comparison of the pictures afore posted.

My best regards.

The final color is the same as the one approved during the sampling phase (You can find the colors samples pics above, but as mentioned the temperature is slightly too warm).
My desire was to offer a cold gray, as the renders showed.

I reached Zfrontier (who's acting as middle-man between the manufactory and me) and got some info:
All kits are ready to ship. Zfrontier will proceed to the shipping of all the packages as soon as possible.
Candykeys should have more news (than me) in the upcoming days.

Dear biip, I am very happy to hear that also EU customers will have soon our sets, good news finally. By the way, all the pictures I saw of US sets are far from your samples pictures and I have doubts that the differences are due to only warm lights. Let us see what will get.

Indeed, it's also due to white balance.

Small update: to date, some of the orders from Candykeys.com are still unfulfilled.

Also, wanted to flag that, to date, the communication with them (Candykeys.com) is borderline infuriating:
  • their updates are rare: last update from them was Sept 9th in Biip's Discord. The last update in their Discord was September 1st.
  • their updates are vague and uninformative: we don't know what's wrong, don't have ETA, commitment on timelines doesn't exist.

It's 7 days I'm waiting for a reply in their Discord. I have the feeling this should not take so much effort.

Dealing with Candykeys is always incredibly difficult. I know the missing units aren’t their fault but their communication is inexcusably bad, KAT Milkshake was the same. I’m still waiting for my Milkshake deskmat. Two years after ordering it. At this point I refuse to order through them again.

Welp, that's another year gone. Still f**k all.

Going to write this one off, not going to touch either the creator nor the vendor again.

Shame, this is a nice looking set.

I doubt you can accuse me to be related to the delay regarding the delivery of the set since somehow Novelkeys was able to deliver it on April.
If you encounter issues with the delivery of your order, please contact the proxy you went through.

Sorry for the trouble.

I have. Repeatedly. All I get is excuses. It's CandyKeys by the way, he seems to have some issues.

Sorry I guess I shouldn't have laid into you personally, but it's very frustrating even if it's something of a first world problem.

Maybe you should avoid CK as a proxy in future?

The 'creator' you should be concerned about is the manufacturer, Keyreative. I'm not sure to what extent/if there was a mistake on Candykeys' end, but a shortage of kits was created and IMO the manufacturer doesn't seem to treat replacements with enough priority (e.g. KAT Milkshake replacement ISO Enter keys only being sent recently). It's frustrating as hell, but my advice would be to avoid KAM and KAT sets in future, especially since Keyreative's communication is garbage and it often translates into limited communication from vendors too.
