About

The inspiration for this set was from the "Yami Kawaii" aesthetic in Japan.
Yami kawaii means "dark/sick cute" in English and is based around pastel, cute designs with a subtle and dark twist.
My idea for this set was to make the main focus the pastel and cute colors, with dark and edgy accents,
to create an interesting and somewhat jarring contrast.

personally i think the novelties are in poor taste. i understand that they are on theme, but self harm and mental health disorders are not something that should be monetized for profit. if you were to say, donate the proceeds of the novelties kit to a charity that helps people with mental health issues i could get behind it. but thats just my two cents.

regardless i like the colors and the renders look nice

Consider adding terminal iso in your base kit so you offer that compatibility, else you shouldn't need to keep that 1.25u shift. I would also love to see this set rendered on multiple layouts/boards! glwic

I get what you’re saying. I honestly didn’t even think about making any profits for designing a keycap set and it’s not my intention to profit off of mental health disorders. I thought this could be controversial which is why i’m also considering changing the focus more towards horror/gore rather than self-harm/mental health.

Some amendments to the box cutter and enter key novelties would probably go a long way in shifting the design away from the mental illness/self harm trap and towards that horror vibe you mentioned

UPDATE: Thanks everyone for all the feedback so far! I have decided to redesign a couple of the novelties to remove the notion of self-harm and suicide. Let me know what you think of the new designs!

maybe i'm the only one, but i was sold on the set BECAUSE of the "shinitai" novelty. dealing with mental health disorders myself, i thought it was okay, and even cute.

the box cutter though, i agree with, should be taken out.

I saw the pic of the original novelties and they were...very uncomfortable making (especially imagining randomly looking at a coworkers board and seeing those or something) and the new ones are SO much better. Thanks for the update to those! This set is really interesting!

I have one suggestion for the kitting, which is to add a R1 equals-sign key for the numpad to the base kit. Other than that, I think this set looks great and I will look forward to an eventual group buy.

Has this been color matched? I checked the codes against my RAL D2, and 010 70 35 is definitely not a pastel pink like in the renders - it’s a saturated hot pink.

The purple should also be darker, but the renders right now may be a bit misleading.

Hi everyone! Sorry for the lack of updates the past few months... I've been dealing with some personal stuff but now I'm ready to start working on this set again! This is a very large update to the set:

- All new renders
- Added more novelties and new novelty kitting

I love this concept. I'll be keeping my eyes on those novelties. I'm a little interested in what the old renders looked like since I personally feel like it's a shame this had to move to a more horror approach since the Yami Kawaii aesthetic is very closely tied with self harm/mental illness. It was originally meant to promote awareness of those subjects throughout Japan which were often avoided or even ignored because of the stigma. Regardless, would love to see this hit GB.

The -_ホ key is missing a ー sublegend in the top-right corner (correct: -_ホー).
Also, the ヲ sublegend in the top-right corner of the 0)ワヲ key should be the same size as the ワ below it, and larger than the ョ, ュ, ャ etc. sublegends that are to its left.
