What keycaps are those dark grey ones? Both the gray and the white work so well together with CMYK!

I use a flipped spacebar, but I don't have a wrist rest, so my wrists are resting on the table, so a flipped spacebar is more comfortable.

might as well share this in case it gives anyone some chuckles. kind of a low priority project i have been working on. this keyboard hobby is getting out of hand.

a while back i harvested a BWT that i got real cheap for brown switches and the remains were sitting in a box. i figured  hell i might as well do something with it. i put red switches in it, because i ordered a ton from 7 bit, non lubed, and im working on painting the case, not sure if i like this grey but i messed up areas and need to sand a little bit and re-coat. because this is low priority i probably wont paint it for a few weeks or even longer.

slapped klaxon mods and SP white on black double shots, not sure if that pisses anybody off or not. the BWT is not backlit

also replaced the **** fake costar wires razer puts in these, replaced LEDs with white ones all around working on reducing the flexing while typing. the thing has a plate but it feels like an out of box poker x with the PCB flex 0_o

low priority project - make something mediocre into something nice. by almightyglod, on Flickr

the interesting thing is that the plate is total **** its like thin and bendy, their soldering looked bad, it had fake costar stabilizers in it BUT Razer's PCB on the BWT really aint that bad-its pretty high quality on the BWT and so is the case. i would say its way better quality PCB than the quickfire rapid.

TL:DR - Dont worry just look at the picture

This reads allmost like you are embarrased to own a BWT. You dont have to ;) Im wondering if you could replace the Plate, and then turn it into an awesome Keyboard. Never seen such a good looking Black Widow so far.

Thanks.  Thats the standard EU/iso layout i guess. We have huge enter and tiny shift buttons. :p

So I finally finished my complete Ergo-Clear mod on my White Filco TKL! I believe the whole process took about 15 hours to finish because I had to do some of the activities TWICE because of mix and matching of the best parts... It was long and tedious but definitely was so much fun and worth it! My first modded keyboard :P I apologize ahead of time for some of the potato pics... ISO was at 100 and I took it in a dark room by hand without a tripod and I didn't realize they were out of focus because I was so focused on going back to work on the keyboard :P

This keyboard is currently composed of:
- White Filco MJ2 Ninja TKL
- Cherry MX Clears w/ KBD 62g springs
- Lime Green switch stickers
- Victorinox oil, Kyrtox grease and oil mix, and Superlube for stabilizers
- Universal TKL aluminum plate
- Imsto Thick PBT w/ Hangul
- F2 Click Clack set

Used a desoldering iron and soldering wick when needed. So the process took longer than I expected. The solder on the Filco wouldn't melt very well and wouldn't suck up so I had to add Rosin Core solder to every point so that it would melt easier... in other words I had to solder TWICE as much as I would normally have to... This was probably the most tedious part of the entire process...

Added back the Brown switches into the universal TKL plate because I wanted to use the newer switch housing from the Browns and only use the Clear stems... so I had to also open every Clear switch too so that I can remove the stems... again I had to do TWICE the amount of work for this step... Now time to lube the switch housing and stem bottom with some Victorinox lube and the stem sides and slides with Krytox mix :) NO I DID NOT USE SUPER LUBE FOR THE SWITCHES :)) The Superlube was ued for the stabilizers. Also adding some Lime Green switch stickers.

Finally the preparation of the switches is done! Hooray... This was process definitely took the most dextrous work and probably also the longest time to do, but it was definitely rewarding.

Time the solder AGAIN all the switches to the PCB and Plate! So close to being done!

I have that too! I just have to put it together :D That'll be the first thing I do when I come back home ~ Going to parents house for 2-3 days tomorrow morning. "Filco-Phantom" ~ I like the sound of that :)

I think the only thing I would have left to do on this thing would be is to get an aluminum case but I don't know if I'll do that :P I like my pretty plastic cases too :))

I'll be sure to update you on that :)

Awesome! I look forward to seeing it ;D Unfortunately I don't think a proper, high-quality metal case exists for the filco yet. There are a few about for the phantom but to get your filco working with one you'd have to use a different plate which means another full desoldering job :(

I do like the Wyse look, maybe 'cause I used Wyse terminals back in the day, or at least Wyse keyboards.  Back then they probably all had MX blacks, and we just took them for granted.

just add Esc Orange PBT Caps

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

So close to being done!

this is quite interesting.
although, i think i'm still quite a newb to dive into such a project.
especially when i remember my electronics class back in school...
my teacher bear to look at my soldering...  :-X

might as well share this in case it gives anyone some chuckles. kind of a low priority project i have been working on. this keyboard hobby is getting out of hand.

a while back i harvested a BWT that i got real cheap for brown switches and the remains were sitting in a box. i figured  hell i might as well do something with it. i put red switches in it, because i ordered a ton from 7 bit, non lubed, and im working on painting the case, not sure if i like this grey but i messed up areas and need to sand a little bit and re-coat. because this is low priority i probably wont paint it for a few weeks or even longer.

slapped klaxon mods and SP white on black double shots, not sure if that pisses anybody off or not. the BWT is not backlit

also replaced the **** fake costar wires razer puts in these, replaced LEDs with white ones all around working on reducing the flexing while typing. the thing has a plate but it feels like an out of box poker x with the PCB flex 0_o

low priority project - make something mediocre into something nice. by almightyglod, on Flickr

the interesting thing is that the plate is total **** its like thin and bendy, their soldering looked bad, it had fake costar stabilizers in it BUT Razer's PCB on the BWT really aint that bad-its pretty high quality on the BWT and so is the case. i would say its way better quality PCB than the quickfire rapid.

TL:DR - Dont worry just look at the picture

Looking good there!

Thanks for the compliments!

Awesome! I look forward to seeing it ;D Unfortunately I don't think a proper, high-quality metal case exists for the filco yet. There are a few about for the phantom but to get your filco working with one you'd have to use a different plate which means another full desoldering job :(

Yeah :( Oh well, thankfully I don't care too much for them just yet so I should be okay for awhile :))

Wow!! How do you like lubed Ergo Clears? :)

I absolutely love it! The sound and feel are so soft while responsive at the same time. I wish I had done it sooner but you can never be too late :)) It's too bad I'll have to be away from this baby for 2-3 days. Going to drive to parents house in an hour :P

Nice stickers!!! Hope you had enough.

How tedious was applying the stickers?

Nice stickers from a nice person ;) It was definitely enough! It didn't cover everything but I was able to cover the primary keys I'd be pressing on mostly. Thanks again, good sir.

It was pretty tedious at first but once you get the feel for it, it isn't too bad. It's just at the beginning you'll be like ugh... But by your 30th one or so, you'll be breezing through.

ooo, you finally did it. how do you find your ergoclears?

I love them! They are just so easy to type on and it feels amazing. I wasn't able to do the mod for a good month or so because my friend had the soldering kit and it was sad to see all the parts sitting there for so long but now it's finally done! I'll be sure update in depth in the ergo clear thread on what I think about the ergo clears after I've typed on them for about a couple weeks :)

awesome job Vesper!

I might switch out all my springs in my ergo clears too. 55g seems "sluggish" sometimes but at the same time it's awesome to type on. Can't make up my mind yet.

Thanks calavera! Also thanks for the springs :P

I'm using the 62g KBD which is slightly less stiff than the Korean gb ones and I'm liking the responsiveness. I definitely want to try the 55g in the future but I think I may use the 62g for a few weeks first then get my hands on some 55g. I think I might prefer the more tactility from the lighter 55g, but I do get what you mean by sluggish. I felt it slightly from the standard 45g springs from browns.

Please let me know which ones you end up preferring between the two :)

Well I have both 55g and 62g clears. I think 62g edges out a little. Both are lubed with different ratios of lube so they're not exactly the same though.
I have noticed that very rarely this one key will get stuck but that seems to go away with time. It's just with this one key so 55g is definitely okay but I wouldn't go any lower than that for sure.

The 62g feels close to linear but I love it. I used to favor 55g blacks over anything but this particular 62g clears is the best imo. I might switch out 55g for 58g springs and see if that makes a difference but right now I'm liking the 55g ergo too much lol.

I felt it slightly from the standard ~60g springs from browns.

FTFY :)

If you felt it slightly with brown springs, you will feel it even more so with 55g springs. That said, my opinion is that clears feel fine going as low as 50g, but this only applies if they're lubed.
