[COMPLETED!] WYSE Moogle Kits!
« on: Sun, 26 February 2012, 01:58:59 »
SP screwed up the original order/shipment, and forgot a ton of keys. The rest of them should be with me by the 22nd. You should have your sets by the end of the month, if all goes well.

Alright, so like Hashbaz mentioned in his thread, I'm gonna run a WYSE moogle kit buy. I figured I'd take some of the sorting and planning off Hashbaz's hands, since I have the time, and also wanted a fairly simple GB to start off with, since this will be my first group buy dealing with SP. The buy is now closed to international orders, as I already have a million customs forms to fill out, and no time to do it.

The kits will include the following:
BASE KIT WYSE

2 Control 1.25x
2 Alt 1.25x
2 Win 1.25x
1 Menu 1.25x
1 Right shift 2.75x
1 Capslock 1.75x
1 Spacebar 6.25x
1 ANSI left shift 2.25x
1 ISO left shift 1.25x
1 Enter 2.25x
1 Backspace 2x
1 Backslash (\|) 1.5x

And the second kit would consist of:

WINKEYLESS ADD-ON KIT
2 Control 1.5x
2 Alt 1.5x
2 Win 1x
1 Space 7x

Alright! So Melissa got back to me on pricing:

Basic Kit (15 total keys):
25 sets          $36.65 / set
50 sets          $23.27 / set
75 sets          $18.81 / set
100 sets        $16.58 / set

Addon Kit (7 total keys):
25 sets          $9.26 / set
50 sets          $6.90 / set
75 sets          $6.12 / set
100 sets        $5.72 / set

So now I'm going to start taking orders for these. I don't want this thing to get out of hand, so I'm going to limit this buy to these caps, and in the event that others are needed, I may do another buy in the future. Shipping will be an additional $6 on top of your order cost, $8 if you're international. Thanks, guys!

ORDERING
Shoot me a PM with your order, your address, and your paypal email. Something like this

This buy will close 12:00AM EST March 16th. I'm closing it early in the morning so I have the full day to correspond with SP with a finalized order. I want to wrap this up as quickly as possible before things get really busy for me. No orders will be collected after that. If I receive one, I will mock you for your lack of reading comprehension.

Risen from the dead for a model F.

Wyse buy colors were GSY for the dark grey, GBA for the light grey, and BBI for the fonts.

off the bat i know i need a backspace, |\, enter, tab, capslock and both shifts.

i got a terminal board so honestly, the only thing that works for me is the alphanumerics and arrow keycaps.
No, he’s not around. How that sound to ya? Jot it down.

I just ordered some WYSE keycaps the other day, so this Group Buy has pretty nice timing.

I'll definitely be in need of: Shifts, 1.25x/1.5x modifiers, and |\.
I *think* my enter and backspace are okay, but it's hard for me to tell without the keycaps here.

I'm not sure if anyone else needs it, but I could use a home cluster.

I got lucky with my set and just need caps lock and then the usual shifts/wins/ctrls/wins/meta key. but mine are the thiner ones for sure made by SP later in life.

On that note, what about doing a full WYSE key set and then these moogle kits can just be addons to that if needed and maybe lower cost. Maybe not though since there are a million other full key set group buys kicking off

Yeah, if you have a terminal from a WYSE 50 or 60, you'll need a lot of keys replaced. Basically, only the Alphanumerics, keypad numbers, and function keys will work. They don't even have a numlock key.  If you have the WYSE PCE modern-looking keyboard, then you can get away with needing much less.

I will get out my WYSE and check what's necessary and update this post later.

I have a WYSE kit that needs:

x1 1.75 Non-stepped Capslock
x2 1.25 Ctrl
x2 1.25 Alt
x2 1.25 OS
x1 1.25 App
x1 Space bar (Filco)

Here is a photo of my WYSE set on a White Filco MJ2 with Grey PBT modifier from SP (thanks to pitashen for the idea), stock Spacebar, hashbaz's RGBY kit, and a Beige/Gray Capslock from Whiskerbox:

BASE KIT WYSE

2 Control 1.25x
2 Alt 1.25x
2 Win 1.25x
1 Menu 1.25x
1 Right shift 2.75x
1 Capslock 1.75x
1 Spacebar 6.25x
1 ANSI left shift 2.25x
1 ISO left shift 1.25x
1 Enter 2.25x
1 Backspace 2x
1 Backslash (\|) 1.5x

No point in making separate kit for those 3 keys, as A. there is no legend fees won't add much to cost, and B. a lot of WYSE sets out there are terminal sets which required those.

For simplicity sake I suggest both shift is included in the base kit or we can have what we did in the RGBY kit where you choose what shift you want.

Not sure how popular a 1.5x set will be but you can do it as a add-on

WINKEYLESS ADD-ON KIT
2 Control 1.5x
2 Alt 1.5x
2 Win 1x
1 Space 7x

I like the base kit and the 1.5x addon kit.  If you saw my wyse picture before, I put a terminal set and an ANSI set together, use thick caps when I can, and all I need are the front row keys (on a tenkeyless Filco).

I wish to add capslock(step) key.

Both version's space key size is the same?

Based on the worst possible Wyse to have gotten, you may need: 8 1.25 modifiers (extra one for caps if use ctrl in caps location), both shift, enter, \, backspace, `, R3 caps lock if not want to use ctrl, all 6 keys for nav cluster, numpad 2unit vertical +, numlock, /, *, -, and spacebar.
That should cover everything. I know not everyone will need all that, but also there are some other boards like the ASCII terminal that have black legend instead of navy, so it wouldn't hurt to have all match either.

Dunno how well these will do

Wyse is a lot less popular then Cherry so less is better instead of big kits with many add-on kits

sadly, i need everything mentioned here.

Sure, just saying which keys are often incompatible with modern layouts from different Wyse boards. Some are near complete, with only the bottom row needed, some need everything but the alpha numerics and f-keys, and some in between. There are about a dozen different Wyse layouts to possibly account for.

WINKEYLESS ADD-ON KIT
2 Control 1.5x

HOME CLUSTER ADD-ON KIT
9 Home cluster keys

TENKEYPAD ADD-ON KIT
1 vertical + 2x
1 numlock 1x
1 / 1x
1* 1x
1- 1x

With all the different WYSE formats out there it's hard to make a base kit, since like Litster and Lysol said, some sets only require the bottom row so it doesn't really make sense to have such a large kit.

BUT if we split everything up into add-on kits, the volume might not be there. Hard to judge ._.

I honestly think its easier to find a set with a good tenkeypad/home cluster then making kits as the interest of them could be real low.

The base kit covers most things.

Oh yes, that home cluster kit should be 9 keys ._.

But I only have a WYSE 30, 50 and 60. None of those have a proper keypad. Can we at least get pricing for it, and then see about interest? It may be that there's enough to make it worthwhile.

the tab key is standard on all the WYSE keyboards isn't it?

So I don't think there is a need for it

BUT if we add it, it will include all the modifiers so people without WYSE keys can buy these too, hmmm interesting

So with the base kit plus something like below, I'd be able to cover a Filco completely?

Correct

The 3 other boards in the back look different though, but the front one will be good for sure

The tab key is required for anyone with the WY50 terminal boards.  They have the stepped keys that don't fit.

Just to make sure, the international people are aware that shipping will cost more for them, right? I can't tell you exactly how much, since I haven't shipped bubble mailers to the UK, but if someone could PM me the cost of that, if they have, that would be great.
Risen from the dead for a model F.

Wyse buy colors were GSY for the dark grey, GBA for the light grey, and BBI for the fonts.
