Especially in Tennessee, there's probably a local metal shop that can do it.

Don't think you can do a universal ALPS plate, but yes. As long as the plate is made for that layout (like the picture I posted) you can use either AT101 or SGI caps and stabilizers.

And...what keycaps would you use with it? Kinda dictates the layout of the plate. Alpine Winter + Alps64 PCB can support HHKB layout, but not many other keysets will.



I so want to love Alps, but lack of choices leads me back to MX.

Datacomp alps clones have pretty much been denounced as garbage. AEKII boards are too expensive at the moment to justify buying for parts (last five I tried to buy on ebay have gone for $75-$150).  The Tai-Hoa alps caps have MX inserts for stabilizers, right?  Matias will have caps this year, but hasn't that been the story for at least 2 years now? 

As much as I would love to build a polycarb top mounted Alps board it just seems like a royal pain in the ass.

If there is an easy solution I'm missing, I'd love to hear it.

The Alps64 is Poker compatible and uses Mini-USB, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work.

Unfortunately the PCB does not fit properly into every universal 60% case. A fitment test would be perfect.
