RAMAGE 7u Spacebar Pics and Review
« on: Sat, 11 March 2017, 23:46:58 »
Hello everyone!

Recently I was blessed with the chance to receive the wonderful 7u spacebar from Ramage, free of charge! Here I will give my impressions and thoughts as well as post a few pictures.

Firstly, I want to say it is more beautiful in person than I imagined. It's very smooth, shiny and even sparkles in the sun.

First, let's start with a list of the pros:
-completely flat, no warp like traditional space bars
-similar profile to cherry space bars, none of that huge SA stuff I dislike
-rounded edges
-super smooth surface and sides
-bottom edges are super smooth and clean, I love clean bottoms and clean edges
-perfect snug fit on several cherry switches(linear grey, green, clear, brown)
-tight fit on stabs, not too tight though
-fits normal and flipped as well
-sound is similar to a cherry space bar, nice thock to it
-very smooth feel, nice and thick feeling when it pushes down
-pushing it down left right and center all feel the same and smooth, no side lifting

And the few minor cons:
-machining lines on bottom sides and machining marks on bottom itself(not that you'd see the underside but just saying they are there)
-small amount of glue leak on left stabilizer insert(again, wouldn't be seen and causes no issues)
-material seems to be quite brittle, edges chipped from metal wire cap puller

All in all, its a wonderful spacebar. I would rather use this than gmk hands down, and gmk are my favorite cherry caps.

My only advice, be very very careful removing it. As careful as I was, I happened to create three small chips on the bottom edges with a metal wire puller. I would advise pulling up the caps beside/around it first to give extra room. And just take your time and do it slowly and gently(as possible). Sadly I wanted to test throughly across several boards and this was the price I paid. I love the glued in stab/switch inserts. They are firmly in place and don't seem brittle and they fit so well.

Here are pictures the best I could take with what I have, sadly it looks way better in person. It's like looking into a tropical ocean filled with the twinkling of a galaxy. You'll also see the tiny chips, which you can't see when on a board.

Feel free to ask any questions or voice any concerns!

Thanks to anyone who reads and appreciates this and a huge thanks to ramage himself, hopefully he continues to make these bars for many folks to enjoy!

You'll be the first if I decide to get rid of it for whatever reason. Perhaps I'll find colors I like even more!

It's definitely the one I'm going after in the next sale. :thumb:

Edit:
Also, wanted to mention that removing the caps from the side and pulling with your fingers is great advice. It's actually what I do with all my space bars, as pulling such long caps with pullers always seems scury.

Thanks for the review Halverson! Do you notice any wobble on the spacebar?

Yea I either remove by hand, or I use floss. It's incredibly hard to properly remove long keys with a wire puller, even 2 wire pullers and its hard.

Spacebar looks nice tho halverson  :thumb:
