The 'board is in good working condition with original detachable PS/2 cable, all it needs to be perfect is a new set of keys. I figured someone here might want it for a project or parts. All I want for it is $5 above actual shipping cost and you can pick your service; USPS, UPS or FedEx. I'll ship it anywhere on Earth (that the above mentioned companies ship to, that is) and we can use PayPal to handle the money.

i would LOVE one. But I don't have any other model Ms. how bad are the keys?
EDIT: ok, for some reason that pic didn't load the first time. now i can see the state of the keys. considering that i don't have any other model m's, perhaps i'm not the best person to get this from you.

IT seems some keys dont belong there and you're missing some too......are all the buckling springs working well?

It types great. The keys are what makes it a good candidate for parts or a mod project.

Nope, just cleaning house. I may buy a new set of blank keys for it or replace it with a USB Unicomp Spacesaver. The 'board does type nice, and you know my luck is the worst when I try to do anything with electronics, so it would be better if I got rid of this one instead of wasting money on it.

I used that redneck camo car paint and it's never coming off. I'm serious - I've tried to scrape it off on other plastics (not the M) and the plastic gouges before the stuff comes off. It's got a really matte finish. The only problem is it only comes in camo colors that I know of.

Ah, car paint, thanks. I always thought car paint would dissolve plastic. I remember that from my plastic toy plane building days. But matte paint might just dry fast enough to make a good connection.

i would gladly take it since i have two model m5 keyboards, but the shipping to Portugal might be too much since i need to pay the rest of my future hhkp2 and that dasIII is looking great.....and then i might get some mackally too....:S

Yes, that's the stuff. If you use it, make sure your decision is final 'cause that paint isn't coming off like ever, and it looks really dull.

Great, thanks. That should be available in black as well. I remember that paint from the Jeep forums. People use it to paint the plastic cladding on their Laredos. Tough stuff indeed.

He won't need much, fill up a used fingernail polish jar, wrap that with lead tape, and SHIP IT!

Plasti-kote should be a good substitute; they also sell a range of paints that molecularly bond with the underlying plastic. Not sure what this range is called but you could probably find out from their website.

I bought the stuff that is supposed to bond. A week later, I was able to wipe it off easily with some nail polish remover.

Well, it is a solvent after all. Hopefully you wouldn't frequently encounter the problem of spilling that stuff on your keyboard. I think it's called "Vinyl-Dye" and it's supposed to soak into the plastic. A lot of people use it for painting PC peripherals like mice, case bezels and the like. You can get little tester cans if you just want to experiment with it.

It only flakes if you are applying it onto an existing coating, or so i've heard. Presumably raw plastic, slightly roughened, would be the ideal surface to paint on. I have used a can of the ordinary stuff on some ABS matt panel and it stuck fast. This isn't the vinyl dye, just the bog-standard variety. The vinyl dye would have been more suitable but they didn't stock it locally so I can't speak for that.

Where would you go to procure a set of blank keys, and how much would a set cost?

Unicomp sells them for about $25 shipped. Call Jim Owens, he's the one that told me about them.
