[GB] TMO50 keyboard - COMPLETE
« on: Mon, 24 September 2018, 15:06:28 »
Hi friends, it's finally time for me to put up the thread about the TMO50! For those of you who are not aware, this is a compact keyboard project made by funderburker. He is a very good friend of mine. While I am handling the group buy, all credit for creation goes to him. I am really excited to help bring this board to the community!

Render by PyroL

Photos and more detailed information about the board can be found in the IC here: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=94675.0

    Features/highlights:
    • 6 degree angle
    • Just 16.3mm front face
    • Sturdy top-mounted plate
    • Tiny bezels - 3mm on the sides, 6mm top and bottom
    • MX & Alps compatibility
    • 297.5mm × 89.15mm × 25.21mm (Back) / 16.3mm (Front)  (Width × Depth × Height)
    • USB mini
    • QMK programmable
    • RGB underglow

Pricing (USD):

  • Aluminum top - $85
  • Polished brass plate - $50
  • Aluminum plate - $40
  • Polycarbonate plate - $30
  • Aluminum bottom - $130
  • Polycarbonate bottom - $65
  • PCB - $40

Shipping will cost between $30-40 depending on if you're CONUS or international. All packages will be insured.

Each person in the buy will receive only one aluminum top in their color of choice. You are limited to ordering only 2 duplicate parts if you choose to do so. This means you can order up to 2 PCBs, 2 plates, and 2 bottoms.

So, if you don't order any duplicate parts, here is what your board kit will look like! You'll receive one of each of these items.
- PCB $40
- aluminum top (your choice of color) $85
- plate (your choice of material and color) price depends on part you select
- bottom (your choice of material and color) price depends on part you select

Switches and indicator LEDs are not included. If you want to use the indicator LEDs, I recommend 2x3x4 LEDs so that they are flush against the case. You will need to solder the switches yourself, or find an awesome awesome friend to do so for you! No key caps are included. Please refer to the IC to look at what size of keys you will need. Remember that there are two different ways you can stagger the middle row on the PCB.

Colors:

For aluminum, you will have a range of colors to choose from. Any material that is aluminum can be colored one of these 6 colors.

How this will work:

I will be posting the google form on September 27, 2018 at 1300 PDT (UTC -7). It will be open for 24 hours. Please only fill out the form if you intend on buying.

Originally, my plan was to submit our order after the mid-autumn festival but my manufacturer requested that I submit before the holiday so they can prep the order to be completed when they return from holiday leave. Because of this, I've had to move the raffle day ahead by a couple days so that we may submit the order sooner.

There will be 30 slots available. If there are more than 30 entries submitted to the form, I will be raffling them. Invoices will be sent out within the next few days. They will include cost of the board, shipping, and PayPal fees.

Entry form: CLOSED

Thanks for reading! :3[/list]

There are full polycarbonate ones in existence but the tops ended up being majorly warped, which is why they aren't in this buy.

Super excited ! What is the production time of the kit !?

I don't have a production timeline for the kit because there are 6 colors offered for the aluminum parts. There are three aluminum parts that can be colored. The variation in choice is too large to gauge a proper timeline. I hope you understand.

Very excited for this board! Question though, will the brass be treated to prevent patina?

I'll have to ask the manufacturer and get back to you.

Update in the main post. Raffle date has been changed to September 27th.
I know this is super fast but my manufacturer just messaged me a few minutes ago requesting that I place the order before the factory goes on mid-autumn festival holiday. They would like the order sooner so that they can prep it and be ready to manufacture when they return from their break. Because of this, I had to move the raffle date to the 27th. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Please check the post for the time so you will know when the raffle is up.

Very excited for this board! Question though, will the brass be treated to prevent patina?

My manufacturer confirmed that there is a coating on the brass to prevent patina.

Can we have more information about the PCB?
I'm wondering if it already includes LEDs on the underside for that polycarbonate bottom, or do we have to do it on our own?

Hi! Sorry I didn’t include that in the original post. I always forget not everyone who views the GB looks at the IC. The PCB will have underglow LEDs already soldered to it. Indicator and in switch LEDS are not provided.

Has anyone else had experience with polycarb plates? How do they feel?

I'm p sure I'd wanna go for alu top and bottom w/ a spare polycarb bottom, but plate material is the hardest choice in the world apparently 😬

IMO they are less harsh and bouncier. It's not for everyone but I greatly prefer polycarb over other materials. I also prefer the sound signature.

Has anyone else had experience with polycarb plates? How do they feel?

I'm p sure I'd wanna go for alu top and bottom w/ a spare polycarb bottom, but plate material is the hardest choice in the world apparently 😬

Ooh less harsh sounds nice, what's different about the sound? I'd imagine it would be duller.

Quieter and bassier imo. Here's a 280 with a polycarb and a a 280 with brass. It's not amazingly different but I think the polycarb is more pleasant sounding.

Originally there would have been an EU proxy, any chance that is the case now as well?

I can't choose between polycarbonate bottom and aluminum bottom.
