Does the most barebones kit possible require only PCB, case, and plate? The middle piece and hipro are cosmetic add-ons basically. Is that correct?
EDIT: I looked at the order-form, and it sounds as if the middle is required and includes all the screws and such. Still a little confused though; I'm not familiar with sandwich cases.

The plates and acrylic middle make up the case.
Do you need a mid or hipro layer to complete the kit? Or will just the plate be sufficient?
Also is the top keyboard here an example of the "white" case? Ie) somewhat transparent with the underglow?

I don't think this has been asked at any point: Will the production plates have anything written on them like all the ones pictured do ("Prototype by...")?
just wanted to be clear if we order this now we don't get a invoice tell the buy ends?
The PCB would work with the Espectro right? I would be able to just use the Espectro case+plate along with this PCB?

It should work with any case that has the USB port between column 0 and column 1 on the left side. Can't be 100% certain though.
You choose a plate color and then just pick 0 on the case kit since the case kit includes the plates.
Is the moq for stabilizers 100? Or are you selling them regardless and 100 is a price drop?
If it's moq, i can add a couple more to my order.

That's MOQ, though if they get reasonably close without hitting I'm willing to buy to MOQ.

Okay thanks. Either way, I think I ordered 2, can you bump that up to 4?
Very interested in joining, pardon my ignorance, but to be clear hipro layers mean high profile?
Just extra standoffs with a third plate? :^)
In for an order!
Will the writing be on the case (budget 96 etc.)? I actually kind of like it.
Keen to join the group buy for green plates for the nuclear data set I managed to get a few weeks back from pmk ;D
Question... the moq for green plates is 7, assuming I am the only further buyer for green, giving 8 sets ordered and therefore 2 lower than MOQ, what happens? Green is the only colour i'm keen on so i'm not sure what happens if you order and the MOQ isn't met.
New to group buys on GH, hence the question.
Thanks much.

Entered, hyped! :D Any chance of a EU proxy for this, or is that out of the question with the origin of orders so far?
Also, something else of interest, if you are one of the people looking for assembly for your board, when you get your initial invoice just message/email me to let me know and I'll adjust the invoice. A couple people have already mentioned it in the form and contacted me, and I want to be sure I get to everyone that wants it.How much is assembly?
We're actually up to 10-11 EU orders right now, so that could definitely be an option. I'll have to check with my usual EU proxy buddy and see what the prices would be for bulk shipment to them and then their domestic shipping.
Will the pcb fit ZZ96?
Just got my invoice but it didn't include shipping. Is that going to be charged later?
... Shipping will be invoiced when stuff is ready to ship out since some design changes have made the weights a little different. ...
Got the invoice but had a quick question. I noticed the middle layer wasn't being shown, Thought it did show 1 Case Kit Which could be the middle. I wanted to double check thought.
The shipping fees to Canada will be 17$? Or higher?
12 currently that haven't paid. I'll begin aggressive reminders while working on the 2nd round of invoices on the few late submissions.

Non-payment of those invoices will at most affect numbers slightly on some of the plates, but I will keep everything as it is for those who paid invoices even if that happens.
An additional reminder that invoice dodging puts you on a blacklist for future sales from me, as per my terms and conditions linked in the invoices.

I'm tolerant of people that will take the time to contact me to tell me something's up and they can't pay or need an extension, but I have no patience anymore for people that can't be bothered and just ignore the invoice. I used to think it pretty harsh when I saw artisan makers doing it, but after long enough dealing with people like this I can completely understand it now.
I joined the GB for this and I'm excited about the timing I caught it at. This will be one of my first board builds, so I'd love for the guys who also got kits to post some build logs either here or on youtube so I can board-a-long with you
Alright, good news:bad news time. Good news: the most recent protos are here for testing the cutouts for all of the possible layouts. Haven't be able to test them just yet though. Bad news: the quality of the plates is absolutely the worst I've ever seen on PCBs. If you want to see the damage, check https://imgur.com/a/lKlwRHB. I'm contacting them to see what they say about it and hopefully this isn't indicative of what to expect during the GB.
Second round invoices will be going out here shortly. They'll have a one week deadline. We still have 11 unpaid invoices. I will be starting aggressive reminders until the second round deadline before removing those orders and blacklisting the emails.
Some bits are already in like the bumpons for the cases and the washers for the stabs. As soon as invoices are paid I can submit the orders for the other components.

The invoices that were notably overdue and repeatedly ignored have been cancelled and the recipients blacklisted.

Do you think the group buy is still on schedule to ship out by the end of June?
Do you think the group buy is still on schedule to ship out by the end of June?
It's more likely to be closer to the "mid July" part of the date range I initially gave. I've no doubt plates will be a quick turnover, but getting the cut parts from JOlimon will take some time as well as PCB production, and I've run into a potential delay with GMK since emailing them about the stabs returned an automatic reply that my contact won't be back in the office until July 5th. Hopefully this might be a mistake, but if not it could certainly be a hindrance.
We're unfortunately still waiting on GMK's invoice manager to be from leave before we can order stabs. This might be affecting other GBs as well if they're waiting for invoices to submit their payments as well.
Are there any updates (pictures) for the acrylic plates?
Any updates lately on how things are going?
Any updates lately on how things are going?
Nothing really notable going on at the moment, things are sitting in production and I'm waiting for components to start being shipped to me.
If you end up with a spare PCB I'd love to buy one. (Just the PCB, that is)
Well that just made my day.If you end up with a spare PCB I'd love to buy one. (Just the PCB, that is)
Barring any issues, like the plane they're gonna be on crashing, there should be plenty of extras available.
Donut do you have any updated ETA's on when things are expected? I am kinda excited to know there being shipped via air and not sea. I am guessing thought for something so lightweight air is most likely the cheaper option.

Do you see there being any spare hipro layers? I just checked over my info and dont think I freaking bought one :( :( :(
that purple looks great!
The updates have been great. I still haven't decided on switches and caps for this build. What's everyone else planning? I like that click life!

Not quite sure yet. But I'm probably going to do lubed gat blacks (again) and might put GMK Plum or Hyperfuse Origins on it. Either way, white plates and purple leds are a given.
What're your ideas?
I'm using Box Navies in my TADA68 and Box Jades in my Planck. Outemu clicks in MacroPad and being used in my Gherkin build. I've used Cherry Greens in the passed. I'm totally open to more click suggestions for the Budget96 build if anyone has any...
Navys feel a little heavier, a little more tactile, and sound infinitely better. Crisper, no plastic rattle like MX blues/greens.

Can you or anyone reading this please tell me how Box Navys compare to Cherry MX Greens. I'm very interested in getting these for this board.

any updates? Any sort of ETA?Curious about what the ETA might be as well.
So just curious on the status of this. Do you have any pictures of the plate colors that isn't green or black?
entering month 5 of delay. What is the over/under for delivery before 2019? I'm guessing it's not going to happen.

We're currently only 4mo past the invoicing date, I'm not sure what "over/under" is meant to mean, but as it sits right now there's no reason for them not to be in shipping to me aside from the current holiday. PCBs are the only thing that's being waited on at the moment and once those are in hand shipping can happen right after.

Correct. It's been 4 months, hence "entering" the 5th month. The over/under is a common betting term. If I'm being cynical and don't believe the budget96 would be delivered by years end, I would take the "over" odds to the bet.
:)

why would you equate 5 months past invoicing to 5 months of delay?
If you look at the first post...the original estimated delivery was June. June to July, July to August, August to September, September to October. That would be four months past estimated delivery. Now, since we are in October and will be waiting into November, that would mean we are entering the 5th month of delay.
Is it really that hard to understand?

yea its pretty hard to understand why you think a group buy, that stated payment wasn't submitted until 6/24/2018. Would be finished and shipping in the month of June. There was also the fact Donutcat keep telling us, if we had a larger order of PCB's it would increase the manufacturing time significantly. We all knew going in this wouldn't be done in June. Shoot most of us expected it likely wouldn't be done in September. I think end of October start of November. Is a reasonable expectation. Though if it takes longer it takes longer. Donuts been very very transparent about things. Has updated the thread anytime we asked him to. I don't see the big deal perhaps group buys aren't your thing if your going to hang on Estimated dates. Keep in mind Group buys aren't Amazon.com.
I do think group buy runner should be held accountable for what happens, its part of the risk of taking on a group buy. In this case there nothing to be upset over donuts doing a fantastic job. Has done a fantastic job in the past and has gone above and beyond from what I have seen and read in previous group buys so I am personally not remotely worried.
I appreciate the support, though I would like to keep any arguing in here to a minimum to keep the thread in order. I do acknowledge that we are pretty far past my initial estimate for a delivery date. This being my first GB of this sort, using multiple components from multiple sources vs just keysets or cables from a single manufacturer, my estimate for delivery was at the very least naively optimistic, particularly so when even the order from GMK was delayed beyond that estimate. This experience will no doubt help me better understand the process for future buys, but for the time being I've just been trying to keep everyone updated as we move along and work through the delays to get everything out when I can, which I hope is acceptable for those involved.
If all goes well I'll be able to start invoicing for shipping before Halloween.
More delays then?
More delays then?
Yeah, there was another small issue with the warehouse, the shipping weight was apparently more than their automated system would let me pay for so I needed to contact them to get it manually priced and paid for. I did that Sunday night and the payment went through without issue, so it's another waiting stage for the time being. In the meantime I've been working on getting the shipping materials lined up so they'll be here and ready the moment the PCBs get to me.
So, after several days of contacting different people and all of them being wonderful for dealing with my english, I finally have tracking for the PCBs headed to me. No estimate on when they'll get to me exactly, but it's better that way imo since it won't be an accidental underestimate. Next update should be unpacking the PCBs and starting some order packing.
I guess I need to start deciding on which switches I'm gonna use.

PCBs are here, no pics of the black yet cause I haven't gotten that far into the boxes. I'm currently going through them and testing for functionality while waiting for boxes to arrive, then I can begin packing the first of the orders and invoicing for shipping. I'll probably be prioritizing getting the remaining Phantom orders out first so I'm not dealing with as many different things at the same time and therefore less chance of shipping hiccups.

Honestly I am totally ok with you taking your time. I don't speak for everyone but even if this took till January I be ok with that. Reason I say that is shipping during the Christmas holiday is a PITA at best.. I look forward to this thought. I am excited those PCB's look AMAZING!

Yea, thank god you don't speak for all of us.
For me though, as long as the PCB doesn't look like it was half-eaten by a bear and IT'S WORKING, and ports align with the plate and usb cutout, I would be fine with it (the PCB). It's all light superficial issues, based on the pictures.
The case, though, is where I'd be more nit picky, since it affects aesthetics directly.
Do you know if this issue will be resolved before the year ends? If not, I need to update my shipping address.
Just saw the news about the blemishes, unfortunate, but super appreciative about being kept in the loop just like everyone else. I too do not care about the blemishes as long as they are functional and don't care about missing capslock and numlock leds either. Just wanted to throw my two cents in, hopefully this doesn't become too much more of an ordeal for you donut, best wishes.

I've been in touch with PayPal for the dispute process since there's been no communication on the seller's end. Due to the amount and some other details of the original payment it's been a slightly more complicated process than a "normal" dispute, so it's taken a bit longer to get it going. They were supposed to call me back the end of last week to finish starting the dispute but they didn't for some reason, so I'll be getting back ahold of them this coming week to hopefully get it moving. I'm hoping the snowstorm going on here won't interfere with that among other things.
any news within the past week?

I doubt we will hear anything back before the New Year, I might be wrong thought. I figured with holiday's Donut is either spending time with family/friends or he is busting butt shipping things. I am sure he will update us as soon as he can thought.
Thanks for tune update donutcat!
With these delays in going to have to change my shipping address. What's the best way for me to handle that?

Surprise, you will hear back before then. I'm on a trip this weekend but before I left I managed to talk to a very helpful PayPal rep who go the disputes sorted for me and the process is going right now. I'm hoping that it won't take too long to work out, but there is a 15 day minimum for the seller to respond, so I'm expecting it to take at least that long though there's always a chance for it to move through more quickly.great news!
Any new updates with Paypal issue? It's been 12 days since the last update.
What is the plan? even if you win the Paypal dispute does that mean we are stuck with the PCBs?
That's great, thanks for the update. Hopefully you're not worrying to much about this over the holidays! Everyone needs a break and I'm sure these PCBs have caused you more than your fair share of stress.
Sorry for no updates, nothing in the situation has changed currently. PayPal is still waiting out the "response period" for the seller before they're willing to move on the dispute.Have you made any decisions about the worst case scenario? Just wondering while we wait if there’s any plan b. Thanks for the update!

Technically the seller has until Feb 21st to respond, though PayPal does have an "estimated resolution date" of tomorrow on the dispute pages, so I'll see what happens there.

The absolute worst case at this point in time is that the disputes get denied and I have to ship everyone their complete orders without the partial refund that I want to be able to give. I'd still be working on each of the orders to make sure everything is functional and that no one gets any of the boards that have the most severe issues. I'd also like to point out at this time that awhile back I went through the plates while dealing with the PCB disputes, and some of the plates do have minor visual defects, enough that I then started a dispute with JLCPCB since this is the second batch that I've received with this issue, particularly after being reassured it wouldn't happen again. This dispute is a lot less complicated than the PCB ones are and it's been long enough since it was opened that I anticipate it being resolved possibly before the PCBs, and I'm intending to use the funds as partial refunds to make up for the visual flaws.
Yeah, echoing lollipoplouie's sentiment, thank you for being so transparent about this group buy that should probably be renamed to the Murphy'sLaw96 by this point. :P

I second, or third or whatever at this point, these sentiments. This is actually working out well for me at this point because I was going to have to get the board shipped to my dad in California, but I'll be moved by the time this is all resolved, so I can just get it shipped straight to me!
Also, please consider this an enthusiastic second on the name Murphy'sLaw96!

donut do you have any current updates for us? I know you said it could take till the 21st but was curious if anything happened.
Hey at least one of the disputes is handled, haha! Also, I am in full support of the sticker idea!donut do you have any current updates for us? I know you said it could take till the 21st but was curious if anything happened.
Nothing on the PCBs currently, the disputes are still marked as "Under Review". There was a little notification that there was an update on the 5th, but nothing has changed on them so I think it's just someone looked at the dispute to see if there was any changes on either side.
There is some "good" news, depending on how you look at it, on the plates dispute, which was resolved mostly in my favor. So using the available funds from that dispute, any order that included plates will be receiving a 15% refund on them applied to their shipping invoice for the cosmetic issues, and I'll be going through the same process of cherry-picking through them to make sure no one gets the worst of them.
On a somewhat unrelated note, I've been toying around with the idea of a sticker to go with the kits that's like "I survived Murphy's-Law-96 and all I got was this lousy sticker" or something like that.

Well, got an update sooner than anticipated, and it's unfortunately not as good as I was hoping for. PayPal's wanting me to find a "qualified expert" to look at the PCBs and tell them the same thing I told them and even showed them in the pictures I included in with the dispute information, because apparently it takes an "expert" to tell them that all the PCBs are at minimum visually defective and potentially functionally defective. I guess now I'll be looking for someone that meets their requirements for an "expert" and go from there. One day things will go as they should, but I guess I won't count on it being any time soon.

Perhaps I am mistaken but Donut wouldn't you count as a expert? I mean you run a shop that sells components and have't you designed a PCB. I mean if that doesn't make you expert I don't know what does. I also agree its either manufacture trying to weasel there way out or paypal being lazy, my money is on paypal being lazy.

Having not made it more than a few semesters into ECE, not only do I not have the official credentials they're asking for, but my opinion would likely be too biased for their liking seeing as I'm involved.
I see some people selling these. How does that work? The person paypals you and donut switches your order to the buyer? Looking to get out of this one if I can.

So...what’s the word? Any news or updates good or bad?
I think this was mentioned way before but, just to clarify, these are entirely cosmetic issues right? Have you tested the PCB's yet to check if they work?Yeah, he stated most seemed like cosmetic scratches and the likes but was going to test them all to make sure they worked and only send out ones that do vs not checking and hoping. I’m just curious as to what the time frame for these will be because we’re rounding the corner on a year sooner then later now.
Cause honestly, if it works, I'd rather just have them now so I can list them on mm.
I'm at a point that I rather have the item shipped to me than having my invoices refreshed. I don't get why we have to wait for the result of the PayPal claim. This is where I’m at with it now. I’m not upset just rather confused to what’s going on with how everything’s gonna be handled. I get the dispute but that’s over now, and there’s been no updates as to who he’ll get or when or what. I originally got into this gb to play around with the board especially with how fast the turn around was supposed to be.
I guess I'm not the majority, but I'm actually at the point where it's been almost a year and my tastes in this hobby have changed. I no longer want an acrylic 96-key board. I'd prefer to just get a refund and not have to worry about selling my spot or selling the kit after I receive it. After such a long delay, I think it would only be fair for the folks who want to get a refund, do so. I know Donut is in a tough situation, but similar to how mechkeys handled the espectro, the people who wanted out, got out and he sold the extras.
At this point I’d go with either. I originally bought this to play BFA since all I own are 60%. Stopped playing the game months ago and still without this board lol.I guess I'm not the majority, but I'm actually at the point where it's been almost a year and my tastes in this hobby have changed. This. Would be interested if donut is willing.

Don't think you fully followed that drama, at first yes he allowed people a refund sorta. Instead of a straight refund he offered to sell theirs on the website then refund them once it sold. That turned into he got upset and just decided to send everyone the board and they could sell on mechmarket after two days, if they didn't want it. Which turned ugly from there. That entire drop was terrible and ended extremely poorly. I know personally I still have no base for my Espectro and no extra PCB that I paid for. I gave up trying as he had no intention of sending either. I was pretty upset when seen him running another IC and people signing up for it. Funny thing is Espectro was suppose to be his last project since it went so horrible. This new project he IC and did a Group buy for is now his final project. I would put money the next project he does will be his final project also. We were warned that speaking up in public about Espectro would mean getting our orders forgotten. He posted that on his discord then deleted it shortly after. I guess he figured it cause to much negative backlash.
As far as this goes I am cutting Donut some slack for the simple fact he been working on another group buy. He was doing the coiled cable group buy that went kinda wonky if I am not mistaken. I do agree we been waiting a while but I don't see a refund as a possibility. Refunding everyone or even those that wish to be refunded would most likely cost him to much out of pocket, it might would even bankrupt his company. I don't think that will be happening honestly.
1) Are the damages to the PCB's ONLY cosmetic?
2) Have you tested the PCB's to all be fully working?
I think I've answered the main questions that I've seen, if there's something I missed let me know, I think my notifications should be back working again but I'll keep an eye out just in case. I am sorry this worked out the way it did, I'm tired of everything that's been happening with this and I'm really hoping it'll be finished up before too much longer. I will be looking to actively seek out possible alternatives to going through PayPal in the future since the main reason I used them was for their protections, protections that have failed me, this GB, and everyone involved so far.
Thanks for the update, Donut.
Btw, since you're an ECE student, have you considered asking a professor in your department?
Mail day!
Not sure exactly what I'm going to use for this in terms of switches, but I'm leaning towards v2 zealios to make this the no-so-budget96
Yay! Shipment has started! :D
How do I know what number I am?
Hey all, if anyone's interested in trying out QMK for this board, we got it in!
https://config.qmk.fm/#/donutcables/budget96/LAYOUT_96_ansi
Sorry for another small lapse in communication, currently I've been dealing with a recurring foot injury since around Saturday night with no signs of it letting up. At good times I have to hobble around my room putting minimal weight on my foot, at bad times all I can do is sit and concentrate on breathing while contemplating the benefits of cutting my foot off. Hopefully this will ease up before the end of the week and I can try getting some orders out.Does this mean those of us that paid our shipping invoice and still haven’t received any shipping info will be receiving that soon?
As it sits, a little bit of good-ish news, a little bit of bad. Bad news first: PayPal gave a final denial on the disputes, refusing to deal with them further and leaving my business account in the red. This does mean I have no funds for my intended partial refunds for the PCBs, but at least I can still continue on shipping orders through my personal account. For the good-ish news, no one else has contacted me to report an issue with their orders, and looking at the information for the two orders that were in question, they were processed through the same facilities for part of their journey, so I believe it may be coincidence and handling that they experienced the issues that they did. Regardless, I'll still be packaging orders using the "updated" method in order to still minimize future issues.
Does this mean those of us that paid our shipping invoice and still haven’t received any shipping info will be receiving that soon?
Oh man I forgot to say "Happy Anniversary" yesterday to everyone that still haven't received their boards.
(That includes me) :(
I wasn't around when the group buy opened, but I was interested since I saw this post. If by any chance there are extras available, or someone is selling, send me a message. I would prefer the base kit with black or white plates, and pcb could be any color.
Missed a cheap 96 /cry
I hope this gets run again!!
Just got my invoice yesterday, can't wait!!
May I ask, what was your invoice number, so I can get an idea on when to expect mine :)
So excited that I finally got my board! Thanks donutcat :thumb:
However, I'm having trouble figuring out what keymap is currently loaded on here. It's not the on in the QMK repo because Fn + Esc is not bringing me into reset.
https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/blob/master/keyboards/donutcables/budget96/keymaps/default/keymap.c
Does anyone have any clue what the keymap is that's currently loaded on the pcb's?
From what I can tell so far:
Fn + Space = RGB_MOD
Fn + F1 = Vol Down
Fn + F2 = mute
Fn + F3 = Vol Up

Ah, thank you. I'll give that a look.
I'd prefer to flash it to qmk, assuming what's in the repo is functional. Any idea how to get it into reset mode?

Also be aware additional work will be necessary for the RGB underglow and the in-switch backlighting to work properly for this board in QMK. If you care about those features you may want to wait before flashing.
Can anyone tell me the size of the screws used? Thanks!
Thanks for the news, the spot I bought in the invoice says CA, I assume Canada, so that awesome news.
Other news, pending a few unpaid invoices I'm looking to finish up the US orders this coming week. After that I'll be able to move to the Canada, EU, and smattering of other countries' orders.
Built up the hi-pro, working well. Never used bootmapper before, but I figured it out.
Can anyone help me with QMK toolbox? I went to the website and made my custom map, but in toolbox the device isn't showing up. It doesn't matter if I hold left control when plugging in the board, though if I do hold down left control the keyboard doesn't work and the RGB turns off, so I assume it's doing something right; but it still doesn't show up in toolbox.
Has anyones EU-Order been invoiced / shipped yet?
I still haven’t built mine yet. Might do lubed cherry nature whites. Anyone have a favorite switch for this board yet?I was considering using the everglide jade green switches, but after a watching a review of them, I might consider using box royals instead.
Any updates?Has anyones EU-Order been invoiced / shipped yet?
I'm still in the process of getting those all together and doing a little troubleshooting on the best way to get them over the pond in one piece.

EU orders are going from me to Mechboards at the moment. You should see an email from them to confirm your information within a few days of their arrival.

Just a bump that extras are available since it seems like no-one got the memo.
I wondered what the status is on EU orders, haven't heard from mechboards. Did the boards clear customs yet? Looking forward to be building this!
Really nice. I hope that in the future you'll run a similar group buy for tkl or 100% keyboards (maybe compatible with the existing pcbs so you'll save some work).
Can you share with us who cut the case for you o do you intend to run other GBs in the future?
thanks

J0limon was the acrylic parts and did the design work for the plate files. I'm 100% considering sticking with him for future case needs with how well working with him went. The plates were cut from JLCPCB, which is where the issues with them came from.
I do plan on doing more boards in the future, not sure yet what exactly the plan is though. I may looking into other plate materials like carbon fiber that I can have cut in the US to manage one of the weak points that showed up with this board.

are the extras also shipped over the UK if i order from europe?

They should be in the process of being sorted and prepared for "local" shipment this coming week, so keep an eye out for emails from David for shipping info confirmation.
Does anything special need to be done to get the Caps Lock/Numpad Indicators to work? I see that there is two pads on the top side of the PCB next to these switches... but I am dumb.
Hey sir! I saw the new storefront and the budget96 options. If I buy a skeleton plate set, I realize it doesn’t come with acrylic like the original group buy. I have a budget96 with a high pro top. Will the new plate sets work with the original board? Or are the holes different?
Any guide to help flash the pcb with qmk? :P
Hey all,
All paid invoices will be going out tomorrow. 2 are still pending and these won't be sent until the PayPal invoice has been paid.
Thanks
David
After 1.5 years, it came ... in pieces.. :(
@donutcat: May you provide CAD files for the middle layer so I may order prints if my fiancée it bothered too much?
It is her first groupbuy experience / custom build, after all.

Ah ****, I thought I had packed them in a way that would stop that. The single thick acrylic pieces *really* didn't deal with stress well; reminds me of some of my college years. PM me your order number.
Been meaning to upload these anyhow, here's the files for the:
Top plate - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1O_0vtXqQVyGjkwTsrirsKjUcJ_XLEIt9
Bottom plate - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1EzAcR4wp8cdp9ib897bsHYkDsnwWCFFL
Middle layer - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1WakVNZqeFnk3mf8d5VHm-F9fkvlTZKdJ
Plates are dxf and the middle is an svg prepped for laser cutting with the middle slices being 9mm nominal. I don't have the hipro file on hand, but I can either bug Jolimon for it or remake it in f360. At some point I should make these available on the github for the board that way they're more readily accessible.
Finally arrived here too! Quite nice build! Sadly i had the same broken acrylic layer - but david said he'd help me out there. ;D
QMK running sweet on this PCB. As mentioned previously RGB mode-switching is not working. So has anyone a working-rgb config for QMK already and is willing to share or hint me to a path for getting it working? Can i take a look at another qmk-keep which would have a working implementation of this, for example the singa? Thanks for any input!
Edit: nevermind - got it working in QMK (ツ)
Thanks donutcat & david

Care to share your RGB qmk finds with us? I haven't moved mine to QMK yet, but I plan to.

I try my best and hope this is of any use for you: https://github.com/dieideeistgut/qmk_budget96
With this RGB Controls are working fine for me. Aswell as all my other stuffy.
Any EU Proxy acrylics that are broken - please find me on Discord and message me. I'll do a run of acrylic this side. https://discord.gg/mkW6X9
Im curious why this was not submitted to QMK so that others could benefit. I'll be building my b96 pretty soon too.

Its now merged in QMK. Happy building your b96!
I'm having some issues with my board and I'm curious if anyone has any ideas.
When I plug my board in, I get a very, very short RGB fiash, then the keyboard goes dead. It then will remain dead on unplug/replug until I let it sit unplugged for a while.
I've looked and I don't see any solder bridging, but I might be missing something. Any ideas what might cause something like this, so I could narrow my investigation down?

Does holding LCtrl while plugging it it set it to bootloader and detected by BMC still? Sounds like a signal issue and I'm thinking either firmware could use a reflash or your connection to the board is being finicky.

I had it working ok for a little while, but now it's back to this original issue. Holding down LCtrl while plugging in does not make it show up in BMC.
When plugging it in, some of the underglow LEDs flash on for a fraction of a second. It changes which ones light up every time, and as I repeat plugging in they eventually stop.
Finally received my board today, and both middle and hipro layers are broken at multiple points. Pretty disappointing.

Sorry to hear about that, the thick frost really didn't have a fun time in shipping for several orders. I presume you're one of the EU orders due to when you've received your order, hit up David of Mechboards.co.uk, he's looking to run some acrylic for EU orders that were affected.
I've been having some issues with keys on row 13 (U,I,F10,} etc.) stopping working after some time. I re-soldered those switches which initially seemed to fix the problem but then after 30 minutes or so the same issue would reappear. I started poking around and jumping switches with a wire and eventually managed to regain functionality for a while although I don't know what specifically solved it. After transporting the keyboard in a rucksack, the issue reappeared.
I've noticed that if I apply pressure from below the pcb near the caps-lock lshift area i can get the keys to register. This stops working when I let go.
Any ideas?
Hi! I've recently finding a 96 keyboard kit and interested in Budget96, but I have a few questions on it:
1. I know the middle arcylic case is sold out. Is there any imformation about the arcylic plate so that I can DIY myself or appoint to local makers? (Inmformation be like dimesion, hole size etc.)
2. Does the case kit contain all the elememts like screws if I built in "skeleton" style?
Thx for answering!
Hi,
Got my hands on a budget96 board and case and i really enjoyed building it as my first keyboard build but i do have an issue(besides the cracked acrylic but i just glued that :) ); after i flashed it with QMK firmware one of the RGB LEDs stopped working(???). The bottom left corner one. Worked great with bootmapper but i needed the QMK firmware to do what i wanted with layers and stuff. Is this a definition issue in QMK somewhere? I assume it is but im not boss enough to know :) Thanks for any help ;D

u might have to manually set the amount of leds in the config file
big thanks, the amount of RGB LEDs is by default set to 16 when there are 18 LEDs on the PCB, works now!!! ;D
I'm looking forward to building this board once the box white switches and stabs arrive. Does it support an 1800 set of key caps?
Built this for out in my garage shop. Used the worlds worst switch hako true for the box switch feature of being resistant to moisture and debris. Stabs are mix and matched leftover pcb mounts. Caps are nkpc from aliexpress. Whole thing for under $90 and i'm happy with it. :thumb:Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/6AxZlLn.jpg)
Just bought a Budget96- having trouble resetting it to flash a new layout- plugging usb + k00 (L-CTRL). Is the reset protocol something else?
I don't know about the low profile version, but I own the hi-pro budget96 case and it is by far one of the best sounding and feeling keyboards I own. Just thought I would thank you again for this gem.

Did you make the diffuser and hipro yourself? Looks pretty solid. My budget96 that I purchased has been sitting since I got my nym96 for work. I wanna put it to use my warehouse, but the fact that it's open everywhere makes me weary of killing. Need some protection for it.
What case is this..Here’s my beauty at the moment.

any chance there are still extra set (PCB and plates)? the website only shows extra white plates (https://donutcables.com/collections/frontpage/products/budget96-extras)
my 96kee just gave up on me.

I believe I said some time ago I would be making these files easily available, and after a reminder I finally got to it. Hipro files aren't there yet because I need to go grab copies from Jolimon, but they'll be up when I do. A hardware list will also be added once I've checked back over that since I've slightly forgotten dimensions used.

By any chance you have the parts needed to secure the plates in place.
