What about the white used in Deepwell? Supposedly it was between WS1 and WS2...

So we're not actually going for something in between - but rather something as close to WS2 as possible without using brighteners.

We've found some candidate colors but we're waiting on GMK to see if this is the brightest we can get or not without using optical brighteners.
They're talking to their plastic supplier to figure this out.

On your final note, I have colour samples in hand and am set on L9 and 3C. WS24 is way too bright for the muted colour profile I'm going for.

I was suggesting WS4 not 24.

WS4 is no longer was never a stock GMK color, it's their match of SP's WCK. WS24 is a relatively new GMK color. Below is a photo from Novelkeys' website. They are currently selling both ABS and PBT color sample kits - https://novelkeys.com/collections/supplies/products/gmk-color-samples

My understanding is:
   WS24 and SW1 are new.
   P3, MG2, and GR9 are discontinued.
   WS4 is a match of SP's WCK.

EDIT: revised details of WS4. Perhaps GMK still uses it, but it is not in their official sample kit.

Keyboards / Re: How hard do you all type?
« Last post by _rubik on Mon, 13 May 2024, 11:58:56 »
That said, my mood is a big determinate of how hard I type, and a significant part of the time I am pounding the keys. And I feel certain that earlier in the day when I am rested I type better and gentler, and by the end of the day I am being more sloppy and striking harder.

I can't agree with this more. Maybe my previous point about "background noise and aggressive music" is maybe a symptom of what you're describing. I certainly type lighter in the morning, after a shower, with a tea, listening to relaxing music. Typing is inherently a sensory experience, albeit a subtle one. I care more about my typing posture and key pressure when I'm more willing to monitor and adapt to subtle sensory stimuli. I care more about speed and "just getting it done" when I couldn't care less about 'enjoying the force curve' or whatever.

This is going to sound strange, but it depends on background noise. The noisier the space is, the easier it is for me to type harder without noticing it. Headbanging with headphones on almost always means button mashing.

That said, I find that I type lighter after using linear switches for a while, even at equivalent spring weight. Something about tactile switches makes me wanna mash.

Keyboards / Re: Is someone here, who quit the hobby and is only lurking now?

I'm somewhat annoyed by some people's narrow definitions of "the hobby".

I'm on this board because I type a lot every day and want good tools and I like to create and modify things. That is what Geekhack was about when I registered a long time ago. But apparently there are people who are here only because they have been bit by a collecting bug. I avoid the shiny colourful stuff: it is not for me.

I almost want to differentiate between "culture" and "hobby". I'll get flayed for saying this, but that's almost the distinction between Reddit and Geekhack respectively. There are shiny keyboards and there are custom, utility keyboards -- they rarely merge. I think that's why there is so much (helpful, constructive) disagreement in this thread in finding non-tech analogues to mechanical keyboards. Keyboards mean something different to everyone. Hell, they mean something different to me on an intra-daily a basis. I might choose different keyboards when I'm writing code vs when I'm browsing the web.

But I agree. I prefer keyboards on the shiny end of "creative utility". That's a smaller target on this forum so I'm often flipping back and forth between "culture" and "hobby"

I appreciate the constant updates and listening to the people interested so far. Excited to hear the sound tests for this board.
