Title: Is Lettuce even worth Eating ?

95 % water..

Big leaves,  hard to wash/dry

Difficult/ bulky to chew/ eat

Iceburg is pretty worthless but Romaine is good.

I have mostly replaced it with baby spinach: better nutrient content. Bought in bags filled with inert gas: no need to wash.

Otherwise, I prefer Cosmopolitan lettuce: a hybrid of Iceberg and Romaine. It has crunch but pointy shape so it is easier to snap off as many leaves as you'd want.

Yes, the micronutrient content is invaluable and it's one of the most nutrient dense foods out there on a nutrients/calorie scale. If your really hate it you can get your greens in a nice lil green smoothie but one of my favorites is just an assortment of greens with carrots and cucumbers with a generous amount of hummus on top.

My roast beef sandwiches demand lettuce,along with sliced cherry tomatoes and black olives,not having them is unacceptable.

It's a good question. To me, the only point is to add crunch to something, but then one must contend with the green-white continuum: if one goes too high, it is nice and green but too rubbery, but, if he goes too low, it is too white and flavorless/bitter (but crunchier).

I don't buy lettuce because it is usually not a good consistency (see continuum above), and it only stays good for a short period of time. Therefore, I only get it at restaurants which can afford to restock frequently and keep only the crispiest of lettuce.

It's just a texture thing isn't it? I don't really care for salad so I never use it. I eat loads of cabbage and spinach though.
