[IC] COPPER SPACE BARS - BY MTBKEYS - IC is Closed - Now In GB
« on: Fri, 15 January 2021, 00:18:46 »

Announcement: In GB here on Geekhack.

Hello again!

Our last spacebar GB for the Bronze and Aluminum, was a success! We are looking to go ahead and do a round 2.

We would like to add to the list: Copper

Check out a SOUND TEST https://imgur.com/gallery/JElWWJ5- Shout out to discord member Tim Raines for making this sound test!

We are expecting to announce our Group Buy in a day or two - Stay Tuned! - Expect Delivery approximately 6weeks after the close of the Group Buy.

The spacebars will be CNC machined from solid 110 copper & you can choose from:
  • polished or brushed
  • 6.25u or 7u
  • Cherry or OEM

Mounting: Centered Stems Only

The copper spacebars could be coated with clear coat, or Cerakot. Or they can be left uncoated, this gives you the option to let the copper patina over time, or you can lightly polish to maintain its luster.

Polished

Brushed

We hope to go to Group Buy by the end of January 2021 and run through February 2021 - Delivery about 6 week after GB ends.

Price should be between $130.00 & $140.00 USD + shipping.

If you are interested, please let us know in the comments & you can join our discord @ https://discord.gg/fUyWvek

We have our website set up and we are almost ready to go for the Spacebars GB Round 2. Nothing is for sale yet, but you can check out our products and drool ;D Check out:  https://mtbkeys.com/

Thanks,

Matt

Big fan of the polished look, but I'd suggest adding the option for in-house coating for those who don't want patina. GLWIC!

A clear coat to prevent patina would be great! Either way I'd be down for a 7u.

Maybe also add sandblasted finish for a matte option?

Wow I love copper, this is a must.

-I agree with others, I would like the option to had a coating in-house as I don't want Patina and don't feel comfortable doing it myself.
-Is the polished version a fingerprint magnet? If yes, would a coat help with it?
-Any chance for a matching Enter key also?

Raw copper is no fun both on a tarnishing, smell on the fingers, and potential toxicity from over exposure: https://www.healthline.com/health/copper-toxicity

Highly recommend some sort of coating

Hmm... I guess we should throw out our copper jewelry, cook wear and rip out the copper pipes in our homes! I'm sure no one will be drinking from their copper space bars ;) but we did say that clear coat or cerakote is an option.  :thumb:

I've got a Protozoa P.01 SE coming in the next few months, and this is something that I kinda need for the sake of "this is perfect for a build with a copper patina upper plate."

Just have to pair it with some GMK Rainy Days and I'm solid :)

Yes, the copper does weigh less than the bronze. We only have the weight for the 6.25u and it is 48g.

That would be fantastic! It would be interesting to have a space bar patina and then maybe clear coated to keep it "pristine." Not sure if that's an option, but if it is, sign me up!

This was obviously MADE for GMK Copper :D  The ability to leave it uncoated to get that nice patina on it... Perfection.

What I'd really love though is the alu bar in KAT profile for KAT Iron!

Hi, i would like to buy a copper or bronze space bar. My idea is to get some patina on it. What gives the nicer patina, copper or bronze?

I think that copper patinas looks the best, but that's me personally... they both patina. Here is an one way to do it, check this video out:https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+patina+copper&oq=how+to+patina+copper&aqs=chrome..69i57.6270j0j15&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#kpvalbx=_YQEbYMPCBMiEsAXX3ZnAAg13

You would have to buy the space bar with NO cerakote and I don't think you will need to sand it as we sand and polish nicely, but you will have to clean off finger prints with soapy water.

Okay thank you so far! Like how high is OEM und how high is cherry profile? One spacebar i want to use for ePBT Ivory, thats Cherry profile i guess, but the other one is for a Ducky Year of the rat edition, thats maybe OEM.

The OEM is .410" (10.35mm) high & the Cherry is .375" (9.52mm) high.
