Def looks decent. Dunno about all boating, lol. Thought the OG lightbulb and "think" made more sense.
Interesting update! I think the top-right placement makes more sense functionally and aesthetically. Enough changes here to certainly warrant a R2 evolution.
Nice stuff
IMO I don't like the "2020" text. The board should keep a timeless look.
The original position is kind of a special for Think. Now that this is being brought up, I agree. It's probably what makes the board so desired. Its original aesthetic. Don't sway too much away from it. Just subtle refinements mostly performance based would be great and prompt me to join.
Quite a few other boards with top right badge. You should keep the small details which make the board different.

Hello keeb friends,
It's been a while since the Think6.5 GB! Hope you are doing well and staying healthy.
I have started this design last year but was not able to start an IC due to personal reasons. Now things are much better, I now decide to start an interest check for R2 Think6.5 named '2020.' For those of you who are curious about how the R1 design looks like, here is the original IC: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=99634
Importantly, please let me know if you prefer the original badge position or the new badge position. And board material suggestions. Any questions, please feel free to ask. And welcome any constructive feedback.Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/LCcojNB.jpg)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/qGzSbEi.jpg)

I like a good story behind a board!Def looks decent. Dunno about all boating, lol. Thought the OG lightbulb and "think" made more sense.
Thanks for the feedback. There are some stories behind the design, but I will leave that out but just focus on aesthetics now.
Short story is that the design inspiration is definitely related to how this 2020 went down. There are also like 4 other badge designs I will share later, some will relate to "Think"
The OG badge position is the uniqueness of THINK6.5. I prefer keeping it.

Maybe replace the anchor with some kind of neuron symbol, likeThis reminds me of coronavirus. Rename board to COVID1.9?Show Image(https://cdn1.iconfinder.com/data/icons/organs-of-human-body/24/neuron-512.png)?
Lol. 19 key board. Frustrates you. makes you angry, and then you might die by injecting disinfectants into yourself.Maybe replace the anchor with some kind of neuron symbol, likeThis reminds me of coronavirus. Not the best icon, was just food for thought. Sticking to the ‚think‘ theme would be nice.Maybe replace the anchor with some kind of neuron symbol, likeThis reminds me of coronavirus. Rename board to COVID1.9?Show Image(https://cdn1.iconfinder.com/data/icons/organs-of-human-body/24/neuron-512.png)?
IMO the top right badge would be a little more on brand if it fit inside the outline of the frame instead of wrapping around on the corner. Not sure how much more room that would take up, but just my two cents.
Thanks Everyone for the amazing feedback and support.
I just got home and will read each comment and suggestion soon.
Since it is still in the prototyping stage, I will certainly consider your feedback in shaping how the project will move forward. Some designs may be final but there is room for fine tuning.

Good job bro! It’s always great working with you.Is there any chance for full brass dream this time? :( I don't need that shiny pvd brass, sandblasted or even raw is totally okayy :(
Looks like many people like the top right badge, and let’s discuss more and make it a great badge

Joined and really respected how you handled R1. If anyone followed the R1 IC thread, you can see the community making suggestions and OP not only listened, but implemented quite a few!
Will there be a badgeless version?
remove the anchor and boat and I am in.
I think it's just more confusion then displeasure. Most people hoping for a round 2 are hoping for improvements on a known design. The only similarities this shares with the OG is that it has badges and is a 65, haha.This. I was hoping for a real R2 and not completely new design that lacks any resemblance and tries to ride the wave that think6.5 created. Either real Think6.5 R2 or different name.
IMO I don't like the "2020" text. The board should keep a timeless look.
Do have badges that look closer to R1 will share soon.
For the weight, I thought one of the biggest complaints had been weight design the R1 feedback I had received, now it appears many seemed to like it somehow.

That's how it always is, we complain about it at first but then when someone says they'll change it we cry foul. lol we are so fickle. :p

At least I have badges to salvage the love for OG elements! I am still working on improving the badge and really hope OG lovers will find it pleasing.
The final anchor weight design actually took me quite a while to optimize, it will be a bit hard for me to toss it.

I actually quite like the anchor weight, I am a big fan or running boards again but I like it when they are changed up a bit somewhat in a way of saying this was the second Think 6.5. I especially love the nautical theme, a polycarbonate Think 6.5 with navy blue or dark green anchor weight would be beautiful. I said previously that the top corner weight would be best but looking at it over and over the old placement is what makes it the Think and even if this is version 2 it should still feel like a Think.
Have you considered making the front badge an anchor as well? Just a badge with an anchor on it I think that would look nice.

Does the light have to shine through the badge? I joined this hobby too late for the original Think, but from what I have seen the light on the badge area was above it. Maybe something similar in this case? Another possibility would be to make a two piece badge one where you make the outer casing of the badge out of brass or another metal and the an interior section made out of a diffusion material of some sort, and follow along with what FTR_Beat said, light the edges of the anchor or whatever icon is on the badge. With a diffuser the light would be spread more evenly throughout the badge and would not appear as harsh.
OG badge placement, but Tsangan bottom PLEASE!!!

Under the badge there is either one (1U) or 2 (2U) pieces of diffusers.

Ahhhh that was something I did not know. What would be the current idea for light to shine through? Is it just underneath the badge or are there cutouts on the badge?
Please offer polycarbonate, I need an endgame 65% polycarbonate board. :thumb:

The light will shine from under the diffuser (LEDs on PCB), and through cutouts on the badge (e.g., tungsten wire of a lightbulb)
Updating more details:4. Polycarbonate

I guess my question to 1, and a solution for the confusion of 2, would be, why not just change the name. New design. New story. New badge. New symbols. Etc. New name and you could have explored all this without getting requests to change things back to Think6.5.
Don't get me wrong. I love the elements, and the thought process. I even like the nautical theme, and accents. I just think new name and new board could have freed up your design chops. Now your constantly going to have to justify why everything changed in R2. Shoot. I'd still change the name now if I were you. Lol.
Haha. Understood. Designers choice. If it's your last design for a while I would have went with OutToSea6.5 or BonVoyage6.5 or FairWeather6.5. I mean I know the new icons will tie it back to think. Just wondering why you'd want to. The main similarity appears to be that it's just a 65 board at this point. Mostly because I do not have plans to design any new boards as I get increasingly busy. Given the similarity, it will just be easier to call it Think6.5 sequel. When you see the other badge you will probably agree it is still a Think.
Of course, designing aside, I will still be an enthusiastic buyer of 65% boards if anyone presents compelling designs :)
The story behind the design choices: Why do I choose anchor, sailboat, and compass to replace the gear and lightbulb?
There is always some sort of story behind a purposeful design, I like reading those stories with I join a Group Buy, but this time I was a bit hesitant in sharing the story as it can sound a bit corny. Now I feel it is important that I share why I made the choices, given the divergent opinions on the 'drastically different looking board' here being discussed. I do believe everyone has provided a lot of value in their feedback, and I am sure some will be taken into account as I keep finetuning things. Some of the comments are confirming my prior beliefs about some additional changes. As I am not in a hurry to run a Group Buy given CyberVoyager production is in progress, more feedback sparks more thinking, and is always beneficial to the board design as well as future owners of the board.
With the preamble out of the way, here are mainly two rationales behind this design choice.
First, I have no intention of replicating Think6.5 R1 because it is not fun and not challenging as an enthusiast. Further, I do not participate in the group buy profit sharing and replication of Think6.5 R1 will not make sense for me. Therefore, the question is, do I change the design elements for R2, or keep the design elements and just modify the structure (to gasket)? I opt for a refreshing design that has the potential to be aesthetically more pleasing than the R1 design.
Second, back to the meaning of the design. It was not meant to be a "nautical" theme. In a literal sense, it is nautical; yet at a higher level, the thinking process has little to do with nautical. To start off, I already had a replicated design last year for R2 based on the R1 design with a new gasket structure added. But as I pick up the project now, I want to divert from the original design to add elements that are more meaningful for 2020. The anchor came from my wife's idea of "refuse to sink," as the world is sinking to some extent; and then the sailboat and compass are lucky icons in many cultures that symbolize peace and success in life, be it the status quo or your new adventures. And the symbolic value is that I hope everyone's life will anchor in a safe haven. In terms of the design, the anchor is made to shape like a "T" in Think, and I have designed other original Think elements (e.g., lightbulb badge) that are not yet shown here. To be honest, I feel 2020 is a special year and it may never get old. But I do consider removing 2020 from the 2U badge. With all the above said, the overall design flavor is actually very close to Think6.5 (same angle, similar chamfers, and trying to be a good looking minimalist design).
In anyway, this design story is not intended to change your opinion of the design. Aesthetics can be a tricky thing, particularly design elements that pop out visually. So apparently this sequel to Think6.5 will not be in everyone's taste. But with me sharing the context and design thinking process, at least you are aware that these are not random elements placed together. And as more badges are released and some are perhaps modified, I hope they will at least salvage some friends' love for the original Think6.5.
Lastly, quite a few people DM'd to ask me about whether I have any plan to do a replication of Think6.5 R1 version as a group buy. Regretfully, I will not. As I mentioned above, I am not interested in running the same GB twice, particularly as I am not participating on the financial side (e.g., profit-sharing) of the Group Buys. I am happy enough and grateful that AirPotter and Gray Studio help me materialize my design visions into actual products. I have released all my parts of the copyright of Original Think6.5 to AirPotter so it is up to him if he chooses to run in the future.

Haha. That's too funny. Too bad. Would have been a tight name.Haha. Understood. Designers choice. I did think about BonVoyage. Potter said it’s too close to CyberVoyager :)
Not trying to be pedantic or anything but isn't having an anchor representing "Refusing to sink" a bit of a contradiction?

Not trying to be pedantic or anything but isn't having an anchor representing "Refusing to sink" a bit of a contradiction?
Stopping to sink? I think maybe the idea is that the keyboard is a boat?
Been waiting for this. That new badge placement looks gorgeous.
I think you should get crazy and do a beige version..
New badge position is definitely better! Will there be a gasket mount option?
Considering removing 2020 from both the bottom and the 2U badges, any thoughts?R.I.P. 2020, you will not be missed. ;)

I like the top more, simply because I find the bottom one to have lots of negative space. Also is it possible to align the badges to the keys? It's kinda protruding a little bit outside the "imaginary" column between the arrow keys and the page up buttons. Not sure If I make sense hahaha

Hmmm I think he did that on purpose so the badge would be in the center of that space, which I like. Also if he’d make the badge parallel with the arrows and page keys it would be pretty small in widht imo and it not being center might trigger my OCD haha :P

In that case following the train of thought from other makers releases, shouldn't this be V2 instead of R2 given that this is a completely different board?

I have a basic question: what colors of case do you expect? Just these two i mean white and grey i quess?
Please please pleaseeeeeee offer PC as an option. I been dreaming about this board in PC :D
I prefer old badge location. Every other board out there is doing top-right. Old location was a great way to stand out from the crowd.

Would love to see Neon green. If not possible at least badge and weight as shown in toxic render. And thanks for doing render on my request :)I have a basic question: what colors of case do you expect? Just these two i mean white and grey i quess?
Thanks! Will have more color options, and possibly polycarbonate
Will Try to put together a poll for colors and material.
Man I am so excited for this!
I do like the anchor more than the lightbulb, hopefully both options will be present.
Oldcat, I absolutely love my Thinks. The e-yellow is my daily driver. It has two problems. One of the keys in the rightmost column and the Caps Lock key are oriented the other way, south instead of north-facing, which makes Cherry profile keys hit the switches on press.
Please consider this in the PCB design and make them all north-facing.

My more well-composed thoughts after reading through all the other feedback:
0.) USB-C. Idk if that was mentioned, but I feel like that is a must in 2020. For me at least.
1.)Prefer badge-less, particularly if it means more keys. If there is a badge, prefer OG position
1.) *EDIT* After looking through pics of Think v1, OG badge is growing on me, especially if multiple colors and buying multiple is an option. Swapping out badges for fun/to match keycap sets seems fun.
2.) Absolutely agree with removing '2020.' This is not shaping up to be a year anyone will want to remember / have their board associated with
3.) Polycarbonate (frosted) is my preference by an enormous margin; there are lots of aluminum options but far fewer PC options
4.) I've seen boards with brass plates under frosted polycarbonate, and I love that look. I don't have a huge preference for plate material, but I would very likely go with brass if offered (brass should be sealed or otherwise coated though)
5.) Please don't do split backspace unless it is in addition to normal backspace
6.) VIA compatibility would be an awesome PCB feature. It makes getting started with the hobby much easier (especially when combined with hotswap) and makes it easier to help people get started with the hobby (makes for an easier 'gateway' keyboard if you will)
7.) Hotswap is great, but a previous comment mentioned GMK keycaps were hitting the switch housing on some southfacing switches. That seems bad. I'd definitely rather solder than deal with keycaps striking the switch housing.
8.) If hotswap is done, I would personally suggest something like an ANSI(-ish) layout for the hotswap and then a secondary standard PCB if demand for other layouts is high.
Thanks so much for bringing this back! I'm super excited for it, and am 100% in if frosted polycarbonate is an option! Hope you're healthy and safe, and thank you so much for the engagement with feedback!
Hey, Will be very interested if there is gonna be ISO support

Would appreciate if hotswap is included, at least as an option at extra cost, I just can't decide on one switch. My more well-composed thoughts after reading through all the other feedback:

Hey bro, thanks for the well thought out and well crafted feedback. Much appreciated. And here are some quick responses, certainly working on most of these:
0.) USB-C. Idk if that was mentioned, but I feel like that is a must in 2020. For me at least.
YES this is a must. USB-type C with C-A and C-C support, which has been done in the original Think6.5 already.
1.)Prefer badge-less, particularly if it means more keys. If there is a badge, prefer OG position
Unsure if I will do badgeless again, from the data perspective, there were not that many people choosing badgeless during the R1 Think6.5 GB, and adding a different top piece increases production costs significantly. If cost permits, I would like to offer 2 badge position options this time as opposed to having badgeless. Hope you understand.

2.) Absolutely agree with removing '2020.' This is not shaping up to be a year anyone will want to remember / have their board associated with
This is being worked on. What is uncertain atm is if we add "Think" engraving to where 2020 is on the bottom, many friends seem to want Think engraving on the bottom.
3.) Polycarbonate (frosted) is my preference by an enormous margin; there are lots of aluminum options but far fewer PC options
Agreed, will certainly try to offer it. That being said, PC will be about 10% more costly to produce based on the R1 run.
4.) I've seen boards with brass plates under frosted polycarbonate, and I love that look. I don't have a huge preference for plate material, but I would very likely go with brass if offered (brass should be sealed or otherwise coated though)
I personally do not enjoy brass plate's feel or sound. We will find out about plate material as we move this project forward. I am thinking about PEEK, FR4 and some other softer but high quality plastic materials.
5.) Please don't do split backspace unless it is in addition to normal backspace
The plate will offer some conventional compatibility (ANSI, split BS, 7u space, ISO). So no worries there.
6.) VIA compatibility would be an awesome PCB feature. It makes getting started with the hobby much easier (especially when combined with hotswap) and makes it easier to help people get started with the hobby (makes for an easier 'gateway' keyboard if you will)
Thanks. I believe the community will probably work on VIA support, if not I will try to find a friend to help out with the programming. Unsure if I will consider this a "gateway" board. I plan to make it an endgame board actually. It is very unlikely we will see hotswap, mainly because hotswap doesn't work well with gasket mount design. And also production complexity and costs.
7.) Hotswap is great, but a previous comment mentioned GMK keycaps were hitting the switch housing on some southfacing switches. That seems bad. I'd definitely rather solder than deal with keycaps striking the switch housing.

R1 was an ANSI hotswap. It worked well because we have a 4.5mm thick plate. But now we change to gasket, hotswap will not work that well
Again, thanks for your feedback. And hoping this reply helps address some of your questions!

Damn I really wish there would be a hotswap PCB option, even if it would be an option at the extra costs that comes with it ofc. Definitely willing to pay for it.

I second this, I would really like a hotswap PCB option as well and I am willing to pay extra for it. I already own a round 1 Think6.5 with hotswap PCB. I've used 4 different GMK keysets on it with tealios, zilents, and holy pandas with no issues.

Thanks for the info and literally one of the most thorough response I've ever gotten on GH! Really looking forward to seeing this go to GB! Just hoping limits are high enough that I can get my hands on one!
1.) The OG badge position is really growing on me; badgeless is starting to seem a little too generic for a premium board. Now definitely agreeing that badgless should be dropped if demand is low and it would increase costs
2.) If it were me, I'd probably put "Think" on the bottom and have the top badge just be the glyph; it just seems like it would make the top a little more elegant to me. As for the bottom, I'm mostly indifferent to the controversy of the anchor (how often do you really look at the bottom of your board anyway?), but I don't mind it either since I like nautical stuff. I think you could definitely do "Think" plus the anchor or plus some other glyph or just "Think." It's your board after all.
3.) Speaking for myself, 10% more is definitely worth it for a good polycarbonate option; I'd still be in.
4.) That's fair. Honestly, I've not experimented much with plate material; I've only used aluminum and brass. I don't even know what PEEK and FR4 are, but I'm down to try new things.
5.) Bless. I have tried to get used to split backspace and literally cannot do it. (yes I know I am weak)
6.) Sorry I didn't mean to imply that this is an intro-level board. I just meant that VIA is super convenient. I also honestly know very little about how the process of developing VIA support works. I'm a nerd through and through, but I have no computer science background; I have a graduate degree in nutrition and a bachelor's in nutritional biochemistry.
7.) Sounds good. Do you anticipate buyers being able to get extra PCB's / plates? I'm not so indecisive that I change switches frequently, but I wouldn't mind putting linears on one pcb and maybe silent tactiles on another and swapping between the two occasionally.

I am revising the top right now, reducing the size of the 1U badge and the 2U badge (removing 2020 and resizing the badge)
For the bottom, it appears 67% want to have 'Think' engraved and have '2020' removed, I am experimenting with that design now.
3.) Speaking for myself, 10% more is definitely worth it for a good polycarbonate option; I'd still be in.
Full disclosure, I will again not make any money out of this project. It will be a free design AirPotter will run a GB and manufacturer. Ultimately pricing decision is his. Just based on R1 experience, PC is more expensive. 5-10% higher than aluminum will be expected. Potter has said the cost to make keyboards are going up overall (counter-intuitively) as many factories in China moved away from CNC and moved to making masks and PPE production that are more profitable, so production capacity for keyboards is going down.
4.) That's fair. Honestly, I've not experimented much with plate material; I've only used aluminum and brass. I don't even know what PEEK and FR4 are, but I'm down to try new things.
I will try to good material for typing:)
5.) Bless. I have tried to get used to split backspace and literally cannot do it. (yes I know I am weak)
Discord friends convinced me to :) But ANSI is always supported, no worries.
No offense at all. VIA is great, and I will try to find someone to work with VIA. Worst case we have QMK :)
7.) Sounds good. Do you anticipate buyers being able to get extra PCB's / plates? I'm not so indecisive that I change switches frequently, but I wouldn't mind putting linears on one pcb and maybe silent tactiles on another and swapping between the two occasionally.
Just filled out the poll. Really looking forward to this!
+1 Love to see a hotswap option!7.) Hotswap is great, but a previous comment mentioned GMK keycaps were hitting the switch housing on some southfacing switches. That seems bad. I'd definitely rather solder than deal with keycaps striking the switch housing.
At this time I am not planning to offer hotswap, for the reasons mentioned above.
Looks awesome! Do we just reserve our interest here? I'm not seeing a link to any official Google IC Form or anything.
A couple of points to mention:
1) Definitely want there to be a Polycarb option!
2) Please also include a PCB that will be both Hotswap AND Underglow compatible
3) Top-Right Badge placement for sure!
Other than that, looks amazing! I'd love to get my hands on this!
I prefer the original badge location, but also not a fan of the nautical/anchor/boat theme personally. I like the original theming and branding more personally, it doesn't really match any of that for me sadly.
If it changes I'd be interested in picking one up as a continuation and extension to the V1, but not in current form sadly. Will keep monitoring the thread to see if there's any changes etc :)

Quoting because this seems extremely important.

Thanks for the feedback. Unlike the integrated plate design of the original think6.5, the gasket-mount design may not work well with hotswap. Further, adding hotswap further complicates a potential group buy. With that said, I will think about what I can do.
I have modified the size of the 1u badge, and added the lightbulb theme as requested, and here it is, please let me know your thoughts?

Think logo is nice! Still like the old position better. Better balance IMHO.
Missing „BHK the Man :thumb:“ for weight engraving
The board looks super nice but I think the badges need to be tweaked.
1. I prefer the top right blocker but don’t really like the boating theme at all. It has nothing to do with the ‘think’ theme in my opinion. I can see where you’re going with it due to the current worldwide situation, but I think it’s really cheesy and lame. I also don’t like that the badge bleeds over the edges like that.
2. The middle blocker is nice as well, but like others have said, I don’t like the ‘2020’ text on the badge. I think if it said ‘Think’ that would be better.
3. I really like the cutouts on the badges for the LED accents to shine through :)
Excited to see more renders and I’ll probably be in on the groupbuy regardless.

Thanks for the feedback! Here are a few responses:

Thanks. I have tweaked the designs (both 1u and 2u). 1u is out with a new lightbulb badge. Check out the story I posted, and hope you will tolerate my desire to do something new with the anchor in the weight.
2. The middle blocker is nice as well, but like others have said, I don’t like the ‘2020’ text on the badge. I think if it said ‘Think’ that would be better.
This is currently being addressed. The new 2U badge render will come out soon with a smaller footprint without the '2020.'

Thanks! Cool visuals on the badge are really something I want to achieve.
You should use the old logo or your avatar. Def be interested then. Not feeling the new logos. Too flashy

Thanks bro. I've been trying to get a cat badge going - stuck with my (un)creative mind!
Yo bro! You were not kidding =)
Like OG's placement ala fc660 a lot. I think it works best from an ergo and aesthetic perspective.
Where is the Fn key on keeb #1?
I like the compass logo. Not sure about 2020 text though. 2600 would be cool.
Still has option for hotswap?
Reserved!
hmm so its now a sailboat themed or navy themed keyboard?
where's the think badge parts?
IMO the top right badge would be a little more on brand if it fit inside the outline of the frame instead of wrapping around on the corner. Not sure how much more room that would take up, but just my two cents.
I actually like that it wraps around the corner. It's unique and looks nice. If it didn't wrap around the corner, I'd prefer the original placement since that's one of the things that made R1 stand out.

Like Phemia said, the badge in the original spot kept it different from the rest of the bunch.
Just purchased my space, and now I'm waiting on this.
Frosted PC please! :D
To be honest, I really liked the old design. I'm not feeling this one (yet). I'm hoping there will be a Polycarbonate version?
personally, when I had my think the only thing wrong with the “almost perfect” board was its mounting style. Integrated mounting isn’t bad; it’s efficient, but I still prefer to make my board sound the best.
Thanks for running an IC for this. I’d be definitely in if you kept the badge where it was and used your design prowess to design the best sounding board.
Oh and, rose gold alu will seal the deal for me as well haha.
Thanks Oldcat!

Saw in discord right now that this is now a gasket mount design? In that case then regardless of design, it's a big step up from the previous version. I'm ok with other placement of the badges, just not really feeling the sail badge. But the 2020 badge rocks.
I know it is not as popular as Olivia, but hope to see the toxic green colorway available.personally, when I had my think the only thing wrong with the “almost perfect” board was its mounting style. Integrated mounting isn’t bad; it’s efficient, but I still prefer to make my board sound the best.

Thanks for the kind words, jaredddm. RE the rosegold color, I am currently talking to AirPotter about starting a new electrophoresis or cerakote color of either rosegold or pink. I like black/gray/white + pink colorways and hope this will materialize.
It is a bit ironic that I actually had the gasket design for R1, and ditched because I had the belief that integrated thick PC will be thockier - worked out for PC I think, but the Alu sound and feel (at least with tactile) were not as good as PC boards - therefore, back to gasket now. But at least this time the gasket is a new design. We will be making molds to make the gaskets, and I am very excited.

I would opt for THINK rather than THiNK or nothing at all. Simplicity is key

Both looking very neat. I think the icon says it all. Perhaps you may not even have to add THiNK. Will go vote...
Will get it either way, hot or not. But with all the nice switches around now, a hotswap would be cool! =)

I'd still prefer it with the engraving (and og badge position), even though it doesn't look as "clean" as without it, but the think never has been one of the "clean boards, and imo definitely doesn't have to be, to be an astonishingly good looking board!
Let me start by saying that I did not join R1; I had simply not discovered this money pit of a hobby in due time.
This to say that I do not have strong feelings on the OG board other than I like it and it seems like a hit amongst the community.
It seems to me quite a few people are suggesting you more or less use the R1 design unchanged and instead offer different colour options and the ever popular polycarbonate edition.
I personally think it would be a mistake to abandon your design ideas/changes for R2; in other words, keep the anchor and the sailboat, they look pretty awesome in my opinion.
That may seem like a big/huge change from R1, but then call it something different, like 'Rethink6.5' if you want the brand recognition or maybe even call it 'Anchor6.5'. The '6.5' part in the name will likely still have people recognise it and tie it back to the 'Think6.5'.
Is there a chance to get split space as a layout option?
It appeared that most would want THiNK engraved, I rendered two positions of the THiNK engravings, which one do you like better?Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/rVPe8c0.png)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/wmLtwnx.png)
If the PCB would offer it, I would also be happy to get a plate cut later. (If you would share the files)Is there a chance to get split space as a layout option?
Will probably put up a poll and see how many will be interested. Split space will cut out a bit too more for plate optimization I think.

Looking to make the design a bit more seamless. Hoping to share some renders soon.
Also, likely I won't be covering screws with rubber feet anymore as most don't seem to care about screw holes but not interested in ripping apart the rubber feet to unscrew. Thoughts?

I prefer not to cover the screw holes with the rubber. The screw holes don't affect the aesthetic due to being below but having to remove them every time you want to open the case is no fun. :thumb:

The anchor seems a bit random. Why is GrayStudio instagram seems to be promoting the old light bulb logo for V2 when the board seems to be heading toward the anchor logo. A unified branding will creates a stronger branding. It creates confusion when the front is a light bulb yet the back is an anchor. Be consistent with branding when doing promotion, a style guide will help with that.
Love both. From outside perspective, the light bulb seems to emote "Think6.5 v2.0" while the anchor says "ReThink6.5". If you are mixing both of the logo on the same board, then one of the logo will look like an "after thought".
However, I understand doing a redesign is hard: you want to retain the old audience while pushing changes. From my experience, if you want to create a new look and feel, you have to be bold. Being consistent will make the design more holistic. Right now, the front of the board doesn't seems to speak the same design language as the back.

This summarizes my feelings on the whole anchor theme. The thing that makes Think unique as an enthusiast board is that it already has a following because of a strongly established look and brand; to change it while keeping it named the same betrays expectations, and potentially leads to disappointment.
Right now I think the design is suffering a bit of schizophrenia because it incorporates elements that fans recognize (the name, the lightbulb) but combines it with thematic elements that don't make sense (the sailboat, the anchor). If you had to rely on a paragraph of text explaining the meaning of those new elements, is it successful as a design?
Granted, I understand how oldcat feels - the anchor theme is something that he and his wife love on a personal level, and it's clear that he has an investment in making improvements and doing something different than before. But I would counter that oldcat should probably THiNK about just making it a new board with a bold new design instead, so that people have the right expectations about it. Personally, this would have been an insta-buy for me if it were just a design refresh of the Think6.5 with a gasket mount and a more seamless design - but the misplaced nautical elements are enough for me to reconsider.
I really hope we can keep talking about the Sailboat badge, or having an MOQ for those of us who want it. Having the whole anchor design, I think it will go nicely with the theme. with some nice Blue caps! Hopefully I am not the only one who feels this way!

I like it. Looks more consistent. Maybe take out the line underneath that anchor?
I think the latest nautical theme deserve its own name instead of being a "v2.0". I looked at it and I don't see any Think6.5 characteristic in it. Please don't get me wrong, I think it is beautiful and to be on its own.

Just playing with badge designs. I will make some for my own use but most of them will be left out of the GB except the weight which I really loved.

Thanks to many friends for the feedback. Let me know your thoughts!Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/5xTGZ8J.png)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/iju9gCc.png)
@oldcat do you think you'll publish the files for the badges again? I'm sure I'll like something from the options offered, but it definitely seems like a fun thing to play with.
Anyone like this badge? Just a thought. Potter said we choose 1 marine theme badge (out of the 4 designed). Lightbulb badge will be made for sure.

I feel that the board should be called something else if it doesn't have the original badge placement, or if the top right 1u badge isn't a lightbulb. The design of the case is noticeably different, and if the two signature features of the think are removed, it doesn't really seem like a v2 of the same board :-\
I'd love to see a top right 1u badge with an upright, backlit lightbulb. Also, the badge showing on the side profile looks kinda weird to me. I think it'll look a lot cleaner if it's entirely mounted on top, like the iron165
On another note, keep up the great work! I really appreciate your openness and transparency. I have high hopes for you guys, been looking forward to an r2 :D

I like the emoji. I am a little weird with artisans though. I don't personally like artisans that deviate from the profile of the rest of the keys. For example, I'm a sucker for RAMA keycaps and things like the Dwarf Factory Apollo artisans, but artisans that are sculptures or what have you don't do it for me. Again, all personal.

Yeah, it will be cherry profile R1 height (ESC in 65% boards) :)
Really like the detail around the usb port :)
Please let there be a polycarbonate version, would love to have one.

Loving B and Default layout!
Mentally preparing to snap this up already. Amazing work. :thumb:
option B, much cleaner to me.
also any chance glass fiber enhanced PC or dyed PC will be in this round?
Love the gear detail, but seems a little inconsistent with the sailboat (badge) and anchor.
Maybe instead of the gear make it look like a boats wheel (helm?) ? idk just throwing ideas
I vote D for consistency cuz of that boat.

Most likely no black PC this time... it was unfortunately much harder to machine and costly to surface treatment.
Boat badge is unfortunately voted the last place and most likely it will be gone. Anchor weight will stay.

+1, I wish this is more common.

depending on the progress of the space65 GB. Potter will start this GB after the space65 ships. So far the progress is looking good, so we should be looking at Q3 sometime. I will update the GB date as we get closer to space65 shipping.

Will consider if there is enough interest for split space. There are also people who want 3u-3u. It will require a lot of cuts to the plate, which I try to avoid.

I personally like the anchor design way more than R1 weight, aesthetically. Thanks. And there are many who like it. Can't please everyone unfortunately :)

I dig the light strip, i think it also depends on the board color. On white or polycarbonate it won't be as distracting, but might be distracting on darker colors.

Purely from aesthetic view, I feel boat badge won’t look good in 2U format, so I didn’t t even render it. It might actually looks great in 1U format so who knows I may be crazy enough to provide it eventually.
Hi,
Will you have a vendor for EU?
I think the OG version is better.
And I wish I had a cat light bulb badge.
Great KB! I am in.
What concerns the badge. Imo, emoji is not as great as gears/bulbs. Emoji with a gear looks like a grumpy wife with curlers, sorry ;D
Will there be voting on the weight, or is that a fixed decision?
At 1st glance I thought the left thonk was hair and not a gear because of where the gears stop. If I had to choose id say right thonk though I'm not crazy about either of them. The cat one is a must have!

Hello my friend, unfortunately, there will not be a poll for the weight. As I said, I am super excited about the new weight as it will look super sick! The background is that after R1 run, many have PM'd me about a redesign of the weight for R2 to be something slicker which I agreed. Again, any design cannot please everyone, but if you really hate it I certainly can understand and I am not trying to convince you that it is perfect, and thanks for the support and feedback. Given I am not in this for the money, I do not intend to poll everything or change major designs according to polls. Polls only inform me on whether anything absolutely needs to be changed. So far I think most things are polling as I a priori excepted, except the '2020' logo which was removed. I feel that I already changed a bit more than I originally wanted but because that was for the betterment of the aesthetics, I am happy with how this turned out.
With all being said, after prototyping is done, I will take real pictures of all badges made and likely have another vote for which one to be made. I can probably make 2 badges max for each layout. I intend to offer lightbulb as the default and 1 optional marine theme badge.

Wouldn't you want to see if that's something that might absolutely need to be changed? I still don't see how your brain can reconcile fish/boats with thinking. That's insane cognitive dissonance, which is all the more ironic given the name you're trying to push for it. This should've been named something else, like the anchor 65 or whatever, not think. I agree that a new weight would be more ideal, but it should be related to thinking, not sinking.

There is no such thing as agreeing to disagree, Aumann's Agreement Theorem literally states otherwise. Either one of us is wrong, or we're both wrong. Someone else other than you should be in charge of 'thinking' how this should look like, you're full of contradictions and weak logic.

Just wanted to pop in and remind people what it is we're doing here. People are designing keyboards that you can purchase if you like them. In the event that you don't like something, please move along and direct your attention elsewhere. No one owes you anything, nor has any obligation to poll the community to compromise their vision to please the masses. Nothing good comes from needlessly criticizing people for their own design decisions. If it's truly "bad", then the GB will fail and lessons will be learned. :thumb:
Consider this a gentle warning that further off-topic and inflammatory posts will not be permitted here, and if you are one that disagrees with the design direction of this board, see above.

Here is a new render for the 1U badge version. The electrophoresis "arctic blue" color shown in the render will be offered during GB.Looks good! I’m so sad I passed on GMK Dracula. Are you thinking about having both anodized and e-coat aluminum? And if so would badges similarly be made with both finishes? Or is it too early to say?Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/k8Fruvy.png)

To be honest, I really liked the old design. I'm not feeling this one (yet). I'm hoping there will be a Polycarbonate version?
Thanks! Yes I do plan to offer PC as long as the GB is not too complicated - weighing different aspects now. Might have to cut out hotswap and badgeless this time.
I made a few changes to the design already with community feedback. Hope you will feel the THiNK soon! And thanks for being patient and tolerant with my new designs.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.
Again, as I have mentioned a couple of times, I like the weight design very much and do not intend to change the weight to V1 version. It’s hard to design a board to the liking of everyone (which is impossible anyway), there are actually many who do not like the V1 gear weight or the R1 badge - still, the board did manage to be liked by many after the GB.
I do believe the comments regarding the weight are not ill-intentioned but out of love of this V2 think6.5, sorry if this does not fit your taste. With all said, V2 is close enough to V1, it certainly warrants the Think6.5 name.
Let's focus on the positive and aspects that can improve the GB experience. Thanks!
And more exciting details to come!
I think the V2 weight logo is fresh and differentiates from the V1 easily! I am definitely in and will eagerly look for updates regarding group buy...
Sorry if I didn't read through correctly - but anyone have an estimate on when this will be available?
Thanks everyone for the feedback.

I'm not in for the group buy if it's the anchor, if it has something else aligned with thinking, I was planning on buying 2-3 keyboards, 2 for sure. I would prefer something else other than the v1 weight, but if it's a choice between the v1 weight and the v2 weight, I'd take the v1 weight every time. Ideally you'd design something new that's actually related to thinking. Is a new design even up for consideration or are you dead set on that anchor?
This would be better than the anchor, perhaps with some tweaks:Show Image(https://cdn2.iconfinder.com/data/icons/brain-concept-3/64/Gear-Light-inovation-512.png)

Can you use any 65% standard PCB with this? If not is hot swap under consideration?

I was looking for this but maybe I am too inept/tired. Was there a post showing choices of 2u badge options? Or is there just the one with the lightbulb? Honestly I'm ok with that one but was curious and could have sworn I saw options previously.
Thank you for bothering to render the ISO. I much appreciate that and I will be ordering one of these.

That looks great, can't decide which setup looks better. Eagerly awaiting the GB.
Any chance for an option to not have a badge at all?
I quite don't get the corner badge being MUCH larger than the key row, aesthetically. But the partial blocker looks absolutely great!
I would love a no-badge option too but well, I guess that's part of the design creed here.

Hey cat do you have a price estimate yet? Or is that still a ways off?

Updated on the first post - expect it to be <350 for aluminum version. More precise price quotes from the factory should come out this week or so.
I prefer original placement. It makes it unique from all the other boards out there and I like that separation from the arrow key cluster.
I don't really care if it's themed around anchors, I just don't like the inclusion of '2020'
Would love a PC version for sure.
I loved my original Think, I'm in for this one for sure.

Hey yes, and the gaskets we will be offering are injection molded, they will have a locking system to the plate too.
Really excited for this to come out! Will there be an option to buy the different coloured badges? And is there also going to be a hotswappable option like last time too?no hotswap

Neat keeb!
Sorry if I missed the info, but would the black polycarbonate be offered in the GB? Keep telling myself I only need one endgame board. :p

Does anyone know the weights of the PC and aluminum v1 boards?
Don't recall the measurements out of my head, I have a half-PC half-alu prototype on hand that I will measure for you.
Probably the last poll I do regarding the design, which is related to the 1U badge design - whether we add chamfers to aesthetically separate the badge from the top case, here is the comparison, what do you think? Vote here: https://www.instagram.com/stories/oldcat87/2315269047624658513/Chamfer looks better. Maybe also less error prone regarding the tolerances. But what do I know. :)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/oY1tDKH.jpg)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/RcrO0K7.jpg)

They look amazing! If it's not too much to ask, could you do a render like that in Polycarbonate? I wonder what badge placement looks best with PC..
Looks amazing with the dark hammerheadset, which I am going to get too. Great job with this board :thumb:
Sorry if this has already been asked, is there any estimate for when these will start shipping based on the GB being in July/August?

I'd assume 3-5 months seeing how fast Graystudio works. So probably you could be safe assuming December or January.

Do you have an idea of the other colors that are going to be running?
I know the IC is way past this point but it's hard to find info in the 6-700 posts: What was the reason for choosing FR-4 and aluminium as plate choices and not brass?
Hey, the usual suspects (black, gray, e-white), plus e-cream, e-arctic blue, and e-pink is what I am considering at this time. Might do some pre-set color mix-match too.

I think the idea was just that brass is too rigid for Oldcat's taste, but by all means, somebody correct me if I'm wrong. On this topic, if someone could give a little more testimonial to FR-4 as a plate material, that would be great. I've never personally used it and am not that familiar with it as a material.

Personally I think that FR4 is somewhat similar to Alu but slightly more flexible. It's also not as pingy in terms of sound. Built my Savage65 with the included FR4 plate and I didn't see anything wrong with it. IMO still prefer PC plate, but it's not bad.

Between FR-4, PC, and aluminum, which you would you say is the lowest pitch / thock-iest? I have limited experience with PC and FR-4, and it's always a little hard to tell because I normally don't build the same board with different plates. I.e. it's hard to attribute sound differences to the plate when it could just be the different case.

I haven't built a single board with both FR4 and PC plates either. I have however built a board with both alu and PC plates. I definitely can't give a be-all-end-all type of conclusion to which plate material gives the most thock, simply because every build uses a different combination of switches, case, and plate. In addition, there are variables like plate thickness, mounting style and mounting points of a case, etc that influence the sound. So like you said, it is quite hard to isolate the difference in plates unless you keep all other variables the same and do multiple builds in one case with different plates.
That being said, I do lean towards PC for most comfortable typing experience with it being the softest, and providing the lowest pitch sound. Followed by FR4 and alu in that order, but that is just how I interpret it in my head. Could be different for other people.
Thanks! Much appreciated. I’ll definitely give the FR4 a try. Maybe one day I’ll buy 4 or 5 of the same board to do a good apples to apples plate material comparison when I have the time and money to spare. Thanks again!
Any updates on colors badges available? Maybe a poll with all renders?

Hi, sorry if the question has already been answered but will hotswap still be available for V2 and if so will there be an option to have a 1U badge at the top? Thank you.
Also one more question, do you know the approximate weight of the board built?
Thank you again, love the design and hoping to get one for myself :)

There's no EU vendor? That's a shame, adds quite a significant amount to the final price if it's coming from outside.
would be nice to have eu vendor so i wouldn't have to pay all these taxes and fees, but definitely in anyway!

I have considered vendors. Actually having a location-specific vendor will increase the sale price quite a bit as there is one more layer of transaction. There are also accountability and customer service issues if additional vendors are involved. It might work well for standard items like keycap sets, but I am not sure about high-end keyboards.

Consider that as an example, I'm already paying 20% + 2.5% import duty on the sale price including shipping when it comes from outside the EU, and I think it's similar for most Europeans here from Germany, France etc.

I don't have experience with setting up a GB or anything similar so I could be wrong, but when I look at some of the most popular high-end keyboard GBs most do opt for an EU vendor and I'm guessing there's a reason for it, in spite of higher sale price?
I won't tell you what to do since I don't have the knowledge required but it would be good if you looked into the best option. Consider that as an example, I'm already paying 20% + 2.5% import duty on the sale price including shipping when it comes from outside the EU, and I think it's similar for most Europeans here from Germany, France etc.
I would have thought it works a similar way, perhaps it'd be useful to clear up with an EU vendor how it would affect final sale prices.
Hmm, I guess this is assuming when the vendors import goods from outside the country, they do not pay import tax or pay a substantially lower amount of tax for goods than the individual buyers would otherwise pay, so the surplus gained from the tax savings minus the cost of setting up and transacting with a vendor can be transferred to the buyers? Otherwise, the cost calculation actually comes down to shipping cost difference minus the fees charged by the vendor.
I would of course want to make the final price as low as possible for the buyers. Like the OG Think GB, I am not charging money for the designs. If the number works out and customer service responsibilities can be figured out, then I don't see why not.
Maybe you can call the "European version" Think6.5 v2.0 Warranty Replacement product. :D
logically warranty replacements aren't a new purchase and wouldn't attract the >20% import taxes we're hit with here in EU :/
I wonder if the importer could pay import taxes on the 'cost' of the product.. whereas an individual would pay import taxes on the retail price of the product?
Additionally, anything I pay in USD also attracts a phat fee from my bank + a ****ty exchange rate..
I guess someone like Candykeys or Mykeyboard would do a single "big" transfer through a service like xe.com for a negotiated exchange rate and non-existent fees..
Anyway, I don't think that StateSheriff or myself are trying to scrounge to save a few nickels... but if
* there are significant savings to be made
* it doesn't generate a lot of extra effort for you
* you have enough EU interest to justify the use of an EU proxy
I'm pretty sure it would be beneficial for us..especially for those that are hoping to pick up multiple KBs in the GB..
On a personal note, I'd prefer that my money ended up with "you"(those making think6.5v2 happen) or at least with the aforementioned EU proxies that are contributing to the community here.. rather than giving it away as import taxes..
You EU guys are complaining about 20% which is cute. In India we have to pay 42% on value of board+shipping. Makes it hard to consider buying boards where seller won't undervalue on package.Just to reiterate, I haven't brought this up to complain or penny pinch. I was prepared to go ahead with the GB knowing the charges would come on top, but I mentioned the vendors because I saw several others asking the same thing.

Yes bottom cases are the same. PCB/Plate/Top case are different for 1U vs. 2U.
Dark grey for pcb mask would look clean.

Right, no hotswap as it won’t work super well with a gasket mount design :(
Can you please add ESD protection to the PCB and use USB-C port?I think they did, since they fixed the ESD problems with the cybervoyager release I’d assume they will do ESD with this one.

Would different gaskets be a possibility? Say for example if someone wants to use really soft ones or another person prefers harder material?Right, no hotswap as it won’t work super well with a gasket mount design :(

The specific type of Gaskets to be used and how they work (and hopefully why they are better ones) will likely be unveiled when Alex live streams a build! The design intends the gaskets to be precisely locked to both the plate and the cases (all current gaskets just have guides on the cases I believe).
Currently, the injection molds for the gaskets have been made (took quite a bit of time) and we will be making alternative ones with varying material softness. Once I receive the prototypes along with the gaskets, I will test ones with varying material softness to determine the best one soon.

Good suggestion, and I will look into it!

Is the GB still targeting July as per the original post? Incredibly excited for this kit.
Will this be an unlimited group buy, raffle, or a FCFS type of deal? I have been admiring the V1 of this board since they first shipped and want to get in on this really bad, just feeling a little demoralized after loosing 2 raffle group buys this weekend.
I think this is gonna be an unlimited GB like the original Think 6.5.
Sorry to bother again, but I wanted to know what is the lead time and shipment ( in approx months) since I may have vacation/ moving end of this year. I will plan accordingly.

Potter is confirmed to go to the factory this upcoming week to pick up the Think6.5v2 prototypes as well as to move the Space65 R2 GB forward to the surface treatment stage!
I am very hopeful for July!

the thread is long, I didn't go over the discussion, sorry if it's repeated but I have two small things to confirm,
1. is it already confirmed that Navy Blue will be offered?
2. in the case of 1U badge (at upper-right corner), the 3 keys below it is in the order Del --> PgUp --> PgDn, can I program it to be PgUp --> PgDn --> Del ?
thanks!

I think color is still up in the air. I’m interested in frosted polycarbonate, so I haven’t paid that much attention. As for the keys, you can program any key on the board to be anything you want. You could make every key “F” if you wanted to. Whether or not you can match the legends to whatever you program the keys to though depends on your keycap set.

Personally, the light bulb is still my favorite to be included as the default badge. I think it provides useful continuity of design from v1.0 to v2.0. I also just think it looks good. If only one badge is included, I would prefer that it be the light bulb.
That being said, I also like the Graystudio logo, and I understand the interest in including it in a visible manner. If it isn't a huge increase, I wouldn't personally be upset if the board price were slightly higher to allow for a Graystudio badge to also be included as a second badge. Maybe that's an unpopular opinion. If there's only one badge included, I would prefer that it be the light bulb though.
Would be good to get a clear image of what badge design options there will be because I'm kind of confused at this point lol. My understanding right now is that the options are the lightbulb, compass, or anchor? (Not including the recent grey studio logo suggestion)
And the weight will be the anchor as shown above with no options?

Tested anodizing a 1U prototype today!Wow that looks nice.
Forgive the horrendously low-quality picture, proper photoshoots will be done with I receive them in the mail :) I am just excited to share with you this sneak peak.

would still want light bulb 2u over the logo ver.
Also would we there be the option to choose polycarb plate while getting alu top and bottom? or get as an extra?
How is the fr4 plate material? Will it provide flex like a poly plate?would still want light bulb 2u over the logo ver.

Regarding the badges, I am sticking with the old plan and not sure there is even a need to check about the “logo badge,” It’s my hunch that it’s highly unlikely the logo badge will be preferred
Looks like we won’t be offering Polycarb plate, and extra top or bottom will complicate things further. So sorry they won’t be offered as extras. Lessens learned from V1 run is that the only way to fulfill a GB in the promised timeframe is to keep the GB as simple as possible :)

FR4 is the material PCBs are made of. It doesn’t flex as much as polycarbonate, but it does flex more than aluminum, brass, or steel.

Honestly I’ve never used an FR4 plate either, at least not in one of my own boards. I may have tried one at a meetup at some point, but I honestly can’t remember. I have used a plateless board with PCB mount switches, which I guess is similar since the degree of flex comes from the FR4 of the PCB. While not a very satisfying answer, the most truthful answer I can give you is that you have to decide for yourself if you like it. I know, totally useless—but also true. Obviously there is a pandemic in the way, but the best way to figure out your preferences is to go to a meetup when you can and if there is one in your area. Regarding the type of switch, I’m not sure one plate material is necessarily best for linear VS. Tactile. I think it just depends on what kind of bottom out you prefer in general.
I will say this, which might actually be helpful: the FR4 will definitely flex more than the aluminum and steel that you’ve tried. Personally, as someone who grew up typing on Apple laptop keyboards, I find that because it’s what I’m used to, I actually prefer a harder bottom out (and therefore stiffer plate) with light actuation force switches. So I tend to go for aluminum or brass plates, and my favorite switches are 62g zealios for tactile and tealios for linear but with 60g springs in them. Clickies I don’t really use, but I have a box white board, and they’re fine.
There are a number of videos on YouTube comparing plate material that have the added benefit of you being able to hear the effect of the plate on sound. I’d recommend taking a look to help inform your decision. Hope that helped a little!
I am definitely in for this. One of my favorite designs and missed v1
Thanks! This just confused me more, guess I will get 2 plates now haha

You can possibly consider selling badges as an extra cost, maybe a full set? I'd definitely be interested in purchasing the whole set, as I'll be purchasing each of the v2's being offered.
Updating a few e-white renders of 1U with GMK Shoko and Wildcat deskmat. Note that the Wildcat Deskmat is not associated with this GB (It is wildcat's personal design and not for sale at this point).
Note that we will likely provide both e-white and e-beige colors. E-white will be a cooler white as rendered, E-beige will be a warmer white (something like the epbt cool kids).Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/2JNijtd.jpg)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/qgyMxsk.jpg)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/eIfk1fw.jpg)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/OUVvfaf.jpg)
Can you please answer if there is going to be an option without the badge? I saw some people asking this (including me), and you aren't responding to these questions (unless I just haven't seen your reponse, then sorry).
And thanks for being patient and tolerant with my new designs.
lightbulb and gear is the best defaultAgreed, as far as I am concerned.
I apologize if this has been answered already or a novice question but is Think6.5 2.0 compatible with other pcbs available in the market?

Hesitant in trying to get a poll going so late in the IC stage, but quite a few people have requested it so here it is. Please leave a reply here or on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CBTo3hrHnRb/
The goal is to gauge whether the lightbulb+gear is still the most preferred, as we plan to have 1 default badge for 1U and 2U, respectively. And then 1 optional badge. Given multiple colors will likely be offered, 3 will be too much for Potter.Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/kRA8VAx.jpg)
Is the weight on the back definitely an anchor? Because if so, the contrast between that and keeping the original lightbulb makes less sense to me.

Hey oldcat, just wanted to ask if this design comes with a USB-C daughterboard? I just saw the Polaris having an issue with the usb port due to its gasket mount design (https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/h7gofy/polaris_owners_usb_port_stress/ (https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/h7gofy/polaris_owners_usb_port_stress/)),
will this be an issue too or not?
Would really prefer just a blank blocker if possible.
Since it's already been decided that the anchor weight is on the back, I want the anchor weight or compass badge option to fit the nautical theme.
If it's light bulb or the studio logo (what is it supposed to be anyways?), then what's the theme? Are people voting for lightbulb because they want new badges for their v1s or just simply want another v1 run?.

Don't know about the other but the reason I vote for light bulb is because I want the theme to be "Think6.5". Not V1, not V2, just Think6.5. That is the entire appeal of the Think6.5 is to me: non-corner badge placement like every other board and the light bulb lights up when I am in fact "Thinking". The reason I want the V2 is because of gasket mounting. Gasket mount board with interesting design is hard to come by.
This is definitely just my opinion and does not reflect opinion of others.
Hey oldcat, what would YOUR Think6.5 v2 look like? With any color combination, badge combination, and any keycaps.
You spent a lot of time worry about what people want and like. Really interested to see what oldcat likes if you want to render it LOL.
Really good keeb you've got going here. Is there any way that we can get a EU proxy like candykeys or myleyboard. As someone who lives in Europe import taxes really kill me. With international shipping plus VAT the price of this keeb would go up to 500 instead of 350. I'd love to get this keyboard but 500 is just a bit too much. There's a conclusion from oldcat about this somewhere above. Essentially they decided they won't proxy because it creates too much potential for problems with something of this cost.
Anyways love the design

The prototypes will be tested by myself as well as via live stream with Alexotos. I will be sending him a couple of prototypes soon!
Good news, the prototypes are confirmed to work perfectly by Potter. All-POM holy pandas were used in testing and the typing feel is sublime.
Next, I have asked Potter (requested by some discord members and friends here) to make gaskets of varying softness and different materials, so I can test them and see if I can find the optimal softness and material. The prototypes should be sent to me soon once the new gaskets are made (a week or so). In the meantime, Potter said he will take some pictures of the Think6.5v2 prototypes and the Space65 ano samples. PC prototypes are also done, pictures forthcoming.

Can you please elaborate on the following:

2. does the top and bottom piece of the case share the same color or have the option to do so?
3. can you show diagram of how the plate is mounted?

Hey, thanks! Here are some answers:
1. does the PCB have full ESD protection? YES
2. does the top and bottom piece of the case share the same color or have the option to do so? Will plan some color combinations for the GB.
3. can you show diagram of how the plate is mounted? Do you mean a breakdown view of the board? Potter shared a picture of the gaskets here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CBYtcDgnZQV/ ; and I will make some demonstration pictures later
I'm easy. I see a white case I buy! lmao. But to have a 2 tone option would be super cool! E-white top and black bottom = DONE DEAL. TAKE MY MONEY!
GB is still scheduled in July?

On his Instagram, he said that a hotswap version will not be an option for the GB but might have another plate+PCB run afterwards. Question is, how long after will that be? I think the interest in a hotswap PCB is really high and shouldve been an option in the upcoming GB.

Oldcat explained that the lack of hotswap is due to a compatibility issue with the gasket mounting.
Hey oldcat, you may have already mentioned this in the thread, or others may have but for those in Europe do you estimate the total cost of the board + shipping + taxes comes to approximately €500? Sorry if this has already been verified or if you're unable to give a figure at this time - just trying to pre-plan my budget to get this board as I missed out on r2

At 20% VAT rate for the aluminum base set you're looking at roughly €430 for board + shipping + taxes.
(Shipping isn't confirmed yet, I used an estimate of $40. Also the VAT rate and any extra duty will vary depending on your country.)

Too late to put it into the poll, but after reading quite a few Instagram comments and the google form comments, white-pink seems to be a thing, any thoughts?

Frosted polycarb is just that og polycarb color. You might be able to dye it to other colors :)

Oh, I guess I misunderstood the first page render since there was a frosted pink look. Would this look be best achieved with a blue alum bottom and a polycarb top and can you mix and match like that?

Hey oldcat, just wanted to ask if this design comes with a USB-C daughterboard? I just saw the Polaris having an issue with the usb port due to its gasket mount design (https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/h7gofy/polaris_owners_usb_port_stress/ (https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/h7gofy/polaris_owners_usb_port_stress/)),
will this be an issue too or not?

[Edited for readability.]
Oldcat, I saw this post and your immediate reply a few posts below that. Your reply was that you have a different design to the Polaris, and you are awaiting prototypes to confirm there isn't a similar issue.
I looked for a follow-up reply about this after you received prototypes. However, this thread is now 19 pages long, so it's a bit hard to search. (Please point out the obvious way of searching if I'm missing it.)
Did you ever revisit this and test it again?
[Not quoting again, nested quoting gets a bit bulky.]
Thanks for the answer Oldcat. Your reasoning seems sound to me as an outsider.
As long as it’s been considered, I’m happy!

Received some good feedback regarding the Unit-01, and I think purple top - black bottom - green badge will make a better sense, since it will be more compatible with other sets, such as Laser, 2600, and more.Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/UX1HjNd.jpg)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/q0Mshh5.jpg)

For the regular colorways, will do some simple math, perhaps combine some "duplicated colorways" (e.g., black-pink and pink-black) into one. Will share the results sometime next week.
Here are some renders for the updated Unit-01 colorway:Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/UX1HjNd.jpg)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/q0Mshh5.jpg)

What is the caps set on the purple / black colorway rendering? I saw a few other sets being mentioned that should fit.
Anything that is going into GB now?

Any chance of getting a render for Sumi and deep navy with whatever suitable board color you want?

Hey bro, for Sumi - since I do not have the correct keycap sublegends model - would the colorway without Japanese sublegends be ok?

Definitely in for the V2 regardless, but just wanted to see if this PCB would be compatible with the V1? I have a hotswap V1 and one of the keys died :/
Anyone know where I can pick up a V1 pcb (either solderable or hotswap) if V2 will not be compatible?
So not even the simple all black and all white colorways are guaranteed? It's all up to the almighty poll? sweats nervously

Hey bro! I will run an IC for V1 PCB in discord or here and go from there (and maybe also other Graystudio board PCBs). This new PCB will unfortunately not be compatible with the V1 version.

Oldcat, any updates on this? I tried to search but I could not find any.
Good points, I will check with a vendor I know again and see what the fees/costs will be, though I am pretty sure the importer's tax will be based on how much the units are sold to him/her but I can be wrong.
If it makes financial sense for the buyers with the roughly identical amount received by Potter (as the GB runner), I'd be happy to talk to him to do it through that route. This will likely mean the sale price will be $400+ for EU, my guess.
For US buyers I think it always makes sense to buy directly from a maker, because it is very unlikely you get hit with any importer tax (which I have never been).

Super excited but bummed that the only option for a pink top is pink-black :( . Gonna have to sit and think about that since I wanted all pink. I would have gone for a pink top choice but I don't like the black base.
Will the fr4 plate only be offered in black? Saw the protos on the demostudio01 instagram. Was considering a PC top-pink base combo but it'd look bad if the plate was black . Any chance we can see the PC top - color base combo either in stream (are any streamers even getting 2 though) or on instagram before they get sent out to streamers?

Yeah hopefully. I think the white plate would look better with PC as well. I think the white would look great with all the cases as well, not that you'd see the plate much in the alu cases.
Just disappointed that there isn't full pink really lol. They have to make the pink top for pink-black and pink base for white-pink so why not offer full pink as well :/ If it wasn't too much trouble I hope they change their mind and offer a solid pink option for sale.

Also, any ETA as to when the GB should be live?

I would hope so, but at this time I am trying to make simple so there is a chance this GB can be shipped in 2020. Two-tone will make it a lot simpler (than 3-tone). I will check if a green badge can be made after all.
GB will be live in 2 weeks or so, as long as prototype shipping to streamers doesn't take an excessive amount of time.

As I talked to Potter, I am pretty much going to send out all the prototypes I planned to keep and build for myself, so there will be a few streamers, apart from the originally planned builds by Alex.
So Alex will receive the proto(s) directly from Potter first and build it on the day the GB goes live.
And then I will receive a couple of prototypes to send to US streamers. I have been talking to Nathan, Tiny, Apiary, and others.
why aren't streamers building it before gb starts..?
if there are too many orders, we might need to end GB early

I was locked in for a true Eva purple-green but was still on board for a purple-black with green badge. I think making the green badge a separate purchase (and even that's not a guarantee) has probably lost me. It's an undeniably great design but I just don't have the budget right now to back something unless I really love it. Eva gave me that feeling but I'll probably start looking elsewhere now. I'm sure this will do super well though!

Does this pic confirm brass badges will be available in r2? Id love to do this but with a navy top instead. The dual alu / pc look is so clean Im sure itll mean buying two though

Full disclosure: I voted for purple – one colour to rule them all. ;P
The purple and black colour combination makes no sense to me.

Was really hoping for the color options shown in this render, especially the one with the greenish/teal bottom, but it looks like it’s not going to be an option huh? :(Sadly, but you can still hope for the teal badge tho, since the badge color is still tba

Are there in prototype pics of the blue / black version? Renders make it look a blue-greyish color itd be super nice if possible to see what it looks like irl.

also, not everything that sells out quick is because of "bots". especially not if it was very limited with high demand in the first place...

Honestly even a bot cant check out in 1s. Your bot would need to know every field for every page involved in the check out in advance (unlikely unless youve seen it before) and itd still take at least 3-4s. That just sounds off period.Ehhhhhh.....definitely don't want to promote any bots as I can't stand them, but bots like PrismAIO, etc, can check out in a second and they do know every field in advance. Bots capable of this are highly available and frequently used.
Stop bot attacks? Get rid of the demand.Limited chamfer edition sold out in less than 1s? People must have quick fingers
ate up by bots ofc, oldcat is there a way we can prevent bot attacks?

Even though I will definitely buy a board, I'm still feeling slight conflicted that I can't have a solid theming with this board. If I want a full boat theme, I still have the gear outlet. If I want a full gear light bulb theme, I still have boat theme bottom weight.

GB currently projected in the week of July 20, 2020
Prototypes have been shipped to Alexotos and myself via Potter's DHL agent (I will then send to a few other streamers in the US). Alex will be doing a giveaway stream and maybe another regular stream! I have an e-white aluminum (1U) and one PC (2U) shipped to Alex. Up to him which one he will be giving away :)
The GB will be unlimited for the first day of release. We will then evaluate order quantity demand with the factory's capacity on the first day and decide how long we run the GB.
This is getting closer and closer! Thank you all again for the positive energy, much appreciated!
really hope that red/black case will be a pickable option

if you don't like the president, you can vote for another one. But my friend, you got NO VOTE on this board. Whether "removing the anchor in the back should be an option" is an option from the DESIGNER, NOT YOU.
Actually, I would be fine with not voting. But since we had votes for other part of the keyboard, everything is just inconsistent. Not fully boat theme, not fully light bulb theme. You can't make this board 1 single coherent theme no matter what configuration option you choose.

This is the only apprehension I have about getting this board. Everything else is great, but I'm not keen on the thematic inconsistencies.

You could just get the compass badge and basically complete the theme. But yeah its people who voted the tinhk badge to be default.
I love everything about this keyboard. The theme of sailing and thinking might not go well together, but I am definitely interesting in joining the group buy!

Is the mystery box random or is it a specific unknown design?
I'm confused. What do you mean, "10+"? Are all Schroedingers not the same?Is the mystery box random or is it a specific unknown design?
It will be some (10+?) specific unknown color / possibly material combo that I will pick that I personally feel looks great, outside of the current pre-set colorways.
<Mod Edit: Quoted post removed>I was so excited by the prospect of a think6.5 R2, but I have to agree that I’m finding it hard to ignore all the inconsistencies, and the fact that it seems to almost have been designed by this whole thread. I appreciate the option to have input on a GB, but I feel that there was no overall solid idea and so the finished product has ended up a bit of a Frankenstein. But I respect that others seem happy and excited by it, I think I’m just going to have to reluctantly pass on the GB.
How long do you think this GB is going to be live for?

Is the yellow badge a neon/safety yellow, medium yellow, or mustard yellow? I know you probably get sick of these type of questions, but unfortunately without examples of each color it's hard to gauge what to expect. I remember seeing the Think 6.5v2 discussion on Drop way back when it was just starting to be talked about and in those renders there was a black board with neon yellow badge that looked like it would match GMK Nightrunner perfectly. I knew them that was the exact combo I wanted and just wanted to make sure that is still going to be an option. Thanks.
Would it be possible to get a side view of the PC case?
How does it look when the magnetic badge is removed?
Can't find any photo of such on the Internet.

That shipping is a real killer. Based in Taiwan, I cop it for US/Eur shipping already, thought I might catch a break with Think :(
I am new to this website so I apologize if I am not using this thread correctly, but I was curious on the renders. I see that the Teal Badges match the GMK hammerhead caps very well, is this true for the final product? Without pantone specs I do not know how to verify how close Tiffany Teal is to Seafoam. I apologize if this information exists somewhere already. Still learning how to navigate this site properly.

Anyone here ordering this from the UK? I'm getting worried about how our stupid Brexit-nonsense will affect the shipping of the board as I'm guessing this will be due to ship in 2021 and UK's situation could be ridiculous by then.
I've been saving up for this board and I'm soo excited for it but I'm super stressed about it getting stuck somewhere due to political changes :-[

I am. I haven't given that any thought, neither am I bothered by it.
For the PCB, I will speak on behalf of Demo S:
PCB will have out of box VIA support, it is QMK compatible, has ESD protection
PCB has 18 underglow RGB LEDs, 2 (1U) or 4 (2U) Badge RGB LEDs.
Production version will be a small physical switch to switch off the underglow LEDs.
There is a decent chance this GB ships in 2020, at least for some of you. Shipping nowadays is slower than pre-Covid era and much more expensive for the same service, but I will do my best.
The deadline for myself to ship them all out is before the Chinese New Year. Things become uncontrollable then as factories will close for a couple of weeks and couriers may also stop working.
I will order the production materials as soon as I get a solid estimate about the demand after the 24 hrs of GB, that is, next Tuesday in US time. I recently decided to delegate my 3D printing company business to my partner and I am now working on producing top-quality keyboards as a full-time endeavor. I am always in the hunt for better processes and better technologies, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of this board.
Thank you all for the support. And this GB will start this Sunday as Alex builds a prototype on his stream.

So if you get an alu case, you probably won’t be seeing too much of the underglow lighting huh?

DemoS said he will offer the 4XRGB kit along with the Think6.5V2 GB, so there is no need to pay shipping, in case you want to pick up some. Here is an instruction I made, as I built a Think6.5 V2 proto tonight.Thank you for sharing this. :thumb:
Here is a quick tutorial on installing a 4XRGB kit on Think6.5V2. Suffice to say that 4XRGB kit an be installed in many PCBs using various methods, but we have made a conscious effort to make it super easy for you to install it. This is also my absolutely favorite mod to any keyboard build.
First step:
Take a 4XRGB kit (with some wires, which will be provided with the kit in the upcoming GB), and fix it to a flat surface. What I did was to stick it on a plastic surface with a double sided adhesive.
Apply some solder on the pads (the pads will be optimized in the new version DemoS developed, what I am showcasing here is an old version of 4XRGB kit), and solder the 3 wires to the pads.
Note that the 3 pads are G, I, and V.Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/O9K6Pdf.jpg)
Second, stick the kit to the PCB. I use double sided adhesive, applied to the bottom of the kit, which sticks to the PCB. Note that I use a switch to guide it, so that later the switch can fit in the switch slot but not collide with the kit.Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/XLAoHNx.jpg)
Third, insert the wires through the hole on the PCB to the back of the PCB.Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/A0PfDhG.jpg)
Fourth, clip the wires to the right length, and solder them to the G.O.V holes, note that you match G wire to G, I wire to O, and V wire to V. I use different colors of wires, but if you might use single color if you can tell them apart as you solder the respective wires to the correct holes.Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/kb46MuB.jpg)
Fifth, this all is done correctly, when you connect the USB cable, the 4 RGB LEDs on the kit should light up.Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/Lf0exET.jpg)
This is how it looks like when you put a switch on. Use some transparent or translucent switches for maximum RGB effects.Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/4nLWTg7.jpg)
Lastly, tune your VIA light effects settings to achieve the result you like for the 4XRGB ESC Mod, here is mine.

Hey thanks for putting on this GB, super excited. Does your render mean that we can order an e-white top and PC bottom? Or is it only possible with the Schrodinger?
Quick question (that I sincerely hope hasn't been answered already): is the included badge color the same as the top case? Or bottom case?

What board and badge type is everyone getting and why?
Personally, I'll probably be down for an e-white to match my future funk keycaps. I am undecided on base layout of 1u or 2u though. Both look dope. It's hard to choose.

such long thread, it's a bit disappointed the color combinations turned out very limited at last,
offering 7 top colors and 4 bottom colors, ending with only 10 choices? it's unlimited GB, why not free combination.
anyway, wish the GB successful

Will the schrodinger be one of these combinations or completely random ?
2U Stormtrooper gang <3Yes... just YES
I got 2U deep ocean to match Hammerhead, with extra blue 2u nautical. 2u seems more popular I think- I just like the look more as it separates from the arrows. A couple novelties in that top right would be cleanAgreed
Can someone explain to me the 4XRGB kits? Is this more for the PC bottom or can I still make use of this rgb kit?
The board has under glow but no per key lighting aside from the ESC with the kit and the badge

Are you guys going for the 2U or the 1U layout? What do you think most people will opt for?
Does anyone want to help me chose? PC or Robocop. GMK Apollo is going to go on initially. I NEED HELP
Robocop if it's your first build, PC if it's not
Silly question about the Schrodinger Colorals, do they just pick a random one for you; or are they special colors?
Random + special actually :DSilly question about the Schrodinger Colorals, do they just pick a random one for you; or are they special colors?
2U Stormtrooper w/ additional PCB + Plate. As well as a white nautical badge.
Having this keeb, Space65, and RAMA M65-B (whenever it arrives), I think I’m finally set!
EDIT: It's just a bummer that shipping to Taiwan is $70 from HK. That being said, I'm still very happy about this purchase.

Hey man I'm really sorry to hear that. If it makes you feel any better, there will be another short window where you can join the GB when alexotos Twitch streams his second build (Friday 7pm EDT). Hopefully you can place your order then. All the best to you.

It will be open for the duration of the streams so somewhere between 2-3 hours.

Nice! Is it unlimited during that window?
Hey I picked up an additional badge during the second window of the group buy. I purchased my board in the first window. It didn’t charge me for shipping for the single badge. Will the orders automatically be combined if I used all the same information, email, address etc.? Thank you!!You’ll need to email potter... check discord and use command !contact for his and graystudio emails. Potter replied in an hour for me and merged the two no problem. Don’t expect it without reaching out :)
Please tell me the next window is next Friday August 7th and not this past Friday. My heart can’t take having missed this twice.

The sale is over, you're gonna have to wait for extras :(.
Are they ever gonna start shipping again? Some people got their boards almost 1 ½ months ago and CNY has been over for about a month now??!
