Cherry MX Blue or Green: Do all your keyboard keys click?

Bought in 2012-2013    : Yes all keys were clicking when new
Bought in 2012-2013    : Some keys didn't when new
Bought before 2012   : Yes all keys were clicking when new
Bought before 2012   : Some keys didn't when new

Mr.Green Part I (PG-13)

Mr.Green Part II Rated G
Part one was showing a nipple and offended some viewers. So I made a Rated G sequel with no naked parts exposed. Joke aside, apparently part one was misleading due to trivial sound physics. It was like taking the body out of a guitar (the body provides the resonance that shapes the tonal qualities of the instrument). Someone could probably win a case in court with a solid argument like that. So enjoy this new unbiased video and try to figure which keys are not clicking.

Happy polling

When customer service say - Never heard of it. Sometimes it's true, sometimes it isn't.

I'm really curious about this one.

According to Cherry Corp - If a MX Blue or MX Green doesn't click - It's either defective or worn out.

I'm reading many posts here and there about MX Blue or MX Green not clicking straight out of the box.

I'm hoping to get votes from as many people as possible and see if there is really something to worry about with our beloved clicky Cherry Switches.

I have never used the Green so i can't comment on that. However, the blues on my Das, Poker, QuickFire have all had failed switches. It's unfortunate because i really love the blues. They are one of my favorites but i have to be cautious when i buy my next cherry mx blue. If i wanted my keyboard to sound like cherry mx red i would have bought a cherry mx red keyboard.

The question is Blue or Green... You have only blue... You qualify for the vote :-)
Did you get your keyboards before or after 2012?

Early 2012, Blue - All Click

Late 2012, Green a bunch of Non-Clickys.

All cherry mx blues that failed were bought in 2011 and 2012. I have only bought a Matias keyboard this year.

I personally never heard a non clicky blue... Even the TVS Gold passes the Clicky test flawlessly.

That's fine if you didn't like blue switches... The question were they all clicking.

Maybe I should of separated Blue Answers from Green answers.

Green are so new and marginal - It might be hard to find a decent sampling population.

We'll see how the poll goes.

The only difference between Green and Blue is the Color of the stem, and spring...

So they'd be coming off the SAME production line.

I've voted, but just to clarify: I have two Ducky Shine (version 1) with MX blues.  On the first one all switches click equally.  On the second, two keys (up arrow and X) do not click all the time.  Depending on the angle of the press, they click most of the time.  All keys register correctly.

Voted. I've owned a Filco with blues from 2009 or so and a CM QF with blues from 2013 and both had one switch that didn't click.  I just swapped the switches out and went on with my life.

That's the Adult thing to do... ;D

New poll?  What kind of key switch are you?

Mr.Green Part II Rated G
Part one was showing a nipple and offended some viewers. So I made a Rated G sequel with no naked parts exposed. Joke aside, apparently part one was misleading due to trivial sound physics. It was like taking the body out of a guitar (the body provides the resonance that shapes the tonal qualities of the instrument). Someone could probably win a case in court with a solid argument like that. So enjoy this new unbiased video and try to figure which keys are not clicking.

My Filco with Blues has a non-clicking switch (Tab), which is not as annoying as a letter key.
I still don't know what to do with it since it is plate mounted and I am not really skilled in soldering.  :(

1- Make sure you vote
2- I never replaced a switch myself. We need to do little research on how to do it OR return that thing backs to its maker and get a replacement.

Anyone knows where we can buy GREEN MX?

I'm surprised
  • pre 2012 seams to have the same defect rate than recent boards
  • I would have expect a larger population for pre-2012 - Where are those old owners?

Or maybe older switches are less prone to non-clicking.  Somewhere I read that with the rising popularity of MX switch-based keyboards, Cherry might have had to ramp u production of switches with a slight loss of quality control.  Or maybe there is a certain percent of faulty switches in each batch, and more batches are being made so more faulty switches are escaping into the wild.

idk.. giving the Germans the benefit of the doubt,, their side of quality control is probably the same....

So.. we're likely just seeing more REPORTS of switch irregularities proportional to total volume sold/produced.

A good point.  Those that are happy with their keyboard seldom complain or compliment.  Those with a defective keyboard are are often the loudest.

Ok but that should make a lot of entries for All keys were clicking out of the box... This poll asks for working too.

I've used a few keyboards made in late 80s or early 90s, and some Cherry MX Blues were non-clicky on them—after spending about 20 years in a box, but maybe they'd need some break-in period...?

Some sex toys might be softer and less risky to achieve the task you are proposing.

It even made me think of something out of an electric tooth brush.
