Inspiration
Many of you have probably owned one or more variants of the timeless Dolch colour-way. I always loved the contrasted yet simple look between the 2 greys, however I always felt like something was a bit off: the colours just seemed a bit too warm and “muddy” to me. I really wanted to give a more muted and modern look to this timeless colourway, which is where Modern Dolch comes in. It keeps the simplistic look and the beautiful contrast between the 2 greys, but cooling the colours down and adding some fresh accents. The result is a very versatile set, which goes well with simple silver/black boards, vibrant teal boards and anything in between.

Design
Because of GMK's limited offering of stock colours, this set will be offering all custom colours. We're in the process of ordering plastic Pantone samples for this, instead of going the standard way of using a paper book. This way we can make sure the colour matching is perfect! We will be offering 3 items in this group buy. First is the base kit, the bread and butter of any GMK set. It will support a plethora of layouts combined with some fresh accents mentioned earlier! We're also excited to offer an icon mod kit, for those who want to complete the simplistic look of this set even more (finally no more R3 all text “Control” key in the midst of icons :thumb:). For those wanting to add a splash of extra colour to your board, or those with split spacebar the spacebar kit is also available! As a cherry on top we're also offering some stunning RAMA caps, inspired by the logo of the original Dolch PAC board. These will be made out of CNCd aluminium with an enamel fill and are sure to bring your board to the next level! These have to be the coolest caps RAMA has ever made, and that's saying something :D

Hehe yeah the brown alpha's of Dolch is exactly why I made this set! Also FYI Oblivion colours are a bit darker and warmer than Dolch :)

Hehe nope not yet. Total orders are lagging behind 9009 on the same day a bit, but that's because the Korean proxy brought in a crazy amount of sales the first day and sadly because of personal reasons Cocobrais couldn't proxy the set this time around. US sales are actually ahead of 9009 when that GB was live for the same amount of time, I'm not getting my hopes up yet but it seems like hitting 500 MOQ might be possible!!! :D

I don't have updated numbers, but with the one I have: no. We're well on the way tho, like I mentioned before Dixie has sold more Modern Dolch sets than he did 9009 when the GB was open for the same amount of days. Considering that GB hit 740 ish base kits, I'm very very confident this set will get made :)

I know someone who has had a custom CA66 badge made, I think he got it made separately/in another factory than the CA66 tho. But yeah s CA66 badge with the same enamel infill as the RAMA caps would be super cool :D

Thousands for a legend mould ? Novelty kits would kill GBs then. I'm not sure, but I have no idea either. Just seems a unreasonable given the novelty caps that come out in each GB, and Novelty kits dont usually sell as much as the base either.

Probably why novelty kits start off pretty expensive for the number of keys, but get much cheaper as quantities go up.
Novelties are typically only ever used for the specific keycap sets they were created for and so they can use cheaper mould materials that don't typically withstand as many uses.

Ah, gotcha. I saw people already talking about 500 MOQ so I was wondering if the total already had hit 250.
On a side note, is the December shipping on this an accurate estimate? Seems super quick.

Is the 6u spacebar from the spacebar kit centered or off-centered?
Off centre to support MX boards with 6u spacebar layout. I included a centred in 9009 because there seemed to be some promising developments in 3d printed MX stabs for Topre, but that never ended up working out. AFAIK all MX boards that use 6u are offset.

Ah, gotcha. I saw people already talking about 500 MOQ so I was wondering if the total already had hit 250.
On a side note, is the December shipping on this an accurate estimate? Seems super quick.
I'm not sure if we can hit 500 MOQ again like we did with 9009. There is even more competition out there right now. We're well on the way to 250 MOQ tho, so the set will definitely be made :)
Also yeah shipping date will probably be January 2019. GMK has been early on a couple sets now tho.

Yup I know, I explained this in some previous comments. Those renders were made before we decided to remove the 1.5u super caps from the base kit. I'm a Mac user myself, so would have loved to keep em. However, custom colours already increased price and considering what a small % of people will use the caps we had to balance it out.

Well yes, but this set does include 4 1.5u R4 keys (2 x Alt and 2x CTRL) :) You def can fit this on all of those boards. AFAIK those 1.5u OS keys are only used by Mac users.

I can't tell from the screen shot of overall keys, but will this set support FC660M? I have an FC660M coming in this week and I can't tell if there is an extra 2.25u shift and I'm not sure if they still use the funky offset spacebar I have heard about. If it's supported, I'll grab one in the next few days.

Yup, i emailed them. I actually put in two orders and none of them are registered in my account under 'my orders'. Thanks for the headsup :) Some stores have a manual process for confirming orders, that's why I was a bit on standby, but appreciate your feedback on how things normally are there. Kind of a newb here and have mainly been passive for the last year in terms of purchases (until now). Still waiting for that Rama TKL, where this set will fit perfectly!

Hey all
Sorry for not posting here for so long, I wanted to hold off on an update until I got a concrete updated shipping date from GMK to avoid confusion. However, it's really been long now. Current status of the set is that we still haven't received the colour samples from GMK because of delays with GMK's plastic supplier. At this point it seems very likely that even if the first round of samples are on point that we won't be hitting the January shipping date. I don't have a confirmed updated shipping date yet, but have asked GMK for one. Will post it here as soon as I have more info.
Thanks for the update, can't wait to put this on an upcoming Dolch.CR :)

It doesn't look like there's much contrast between the grays.

Grays look wonderful, but the contrast does seem a little low. The original rendering had the darker gray as a little darker than what was produced. That being said, only two keys are shown so it might appear more contrast-y when more keys are next to each other in a full layout.
The cyan does look like it could use a little more cyan. It's kinda a light seafoam green right now.
I agree the red could pop a little more.

That newly corrected image looks way better when it comes to the contrast. I use photoshop for my job and it's a pain in the ass to make things match real life. If it matches the pantone then I trust it. Thank you for your diligence!

The contrast in grays did look a little low in the first picture, but the color corrected picture looks much better. I agree with you and others here regarding the accents. Just some slight tweaking and I think they'll hit the target.

For real tho, samples need to be redone by GMK for the red and blue. I asked GMK for an updated timeline on this but they haven't answered that yet. I really hope the new samples are finished quicker than the last ones...

This is my attitude as well! Custom colors can be tricky and I think as somebody who joined the group by it is up to me to understand that getting the colors right is more important than hitting some deadline I have in mind for receiving the set.

Thanks for the update! The board my set is going on is getting pushed back by the CNY and here I was worried I'd have a set of keys without a board to put them on.

Below are some pictures comparing them to the old samples, the Pantones and the OG Dolch colours. Please keep in mind that the red Pantone is a metallic chip, which makes it change colour an insane amount based on lighting (just like a car). This also makes matching very very hard.

As for the red, as I explained above it's very hard to both capture and colour match. Even though I rendered the set with the official Pantone colour code for this image, I wasn't aware the the chip was a metallic one. As for the red, as I explained above it's very hard to both capture and colour match. Even though I rendered the set with the official Pantone colour code for this image, I wasn't aware the the chip was a metallic one. Looking at the sample here and comparing it to the renders on a monitor calibrated just now, I would say GMK did a killer job though!

There will be extra GMK kits for sure, across all vendors. RAMA caps will be a bit tougher to get tho, IIRC both EU and US vendors didn't get any extras for them. Don't recall if Dailyclack or Zfrontier did, but they definitely will be tougher to get your hands on.
