Hi All

I’m proud to announce that we have signed an agreement with Topre to make their high quality Realforce keyboards available to the European Market.

In the first instance, we will look to stock a printed 105 model in three or four language varieties. For widest appeal.

We’re polishing up a few details right now and I would hope to have stock in by October 2010.

87U or 88U would be my favorite too but we felt we'd have most appeal to most people with the full size model.
I did check numbers with some people and it seems about 70/30 in favour of full size in Japan.
Tenkeyless is certainly in my thoughts.

Good news. The only thing I'm worried about after seeing the other European Distributor prices is that the price will be just as high as buying one in USD+shipping.

Anyway, Maybe I will be proven wrong.

Even if it is like that , at least you don't have to worry about extra taxes at customs.

Excellent news!

I had excellent service from The Keyboard Company when I ordered a G80-3000 a few months ago and I will be happy to send more money their way (in exchange for a keyboard, of course).

Seconded: it effectively does away with the customs lottery meaning you can get your keyboard sooner.
The downside is that the price is what it is, it will include import taxes in some way or another.

I'm still undecided whether to pick an ANSI or UK ISO model but this is pretty good news nonetheless.

Well, some people don't talk Finnish (if I'm not mistaken), and may find it hard to navigate in that site (and some translaters don't cope well with sites where you buy stuff).
And those keyboards seems limited to Finnish anyway.

make an ISO version of the HHKB

That would actually be interesting, but might be a pain for those layouts (like french of course) where you have to use shift to access the numbers row... same reason that makes tenkeyless layouts a bit less desirable, size notwithstanding.

It would also screw up a lot of the advantages of the HHKB layout. The Japanese HHKB is sort of like what an ISO HHKB would be like, but I don't see why you'd bother...

I've started a thread a few days ago about getting a HHKB pro 2 (plain, non-japanese version) in the Netherlands, and I personally would feel more comfortable ordering from a UK company instead of a US or Japanese one - even if it's just to get shipping and tax sorted out before ordering. Is this deal for RealForce only or are you also looking into HHKB boards?

Edit: good on you for doing this, by the way. It's hard enough getting decent keyboards over here, so even if you stick with "just" the 105 Realforce boards it's a definite improvement. Though personally, I'm really leaning towards 10-keyless or smaller form factors at the moment, hence my asking about the HHKB.

I was under the impression that the vertical enter key means ISO, but upon reading up it appears not to be so.

But anyway, what I don't like is the vertical enter key that is very common here. People think it's trivial, but I can't stand it. Before I learned about mechanical keyboards I even imported rubber domes for this reason.

First post here, as I've only just started seriously looking into getting a keyboard with a better feel and shorter body than the Enermax Aurora I've been tapping at for some years.

Before seeing this post, I emailed the Keyboard Company yesterday asking about Topre keyboards in the UK, and Bruce quickly responded to let me know that they expect to be getting them in in November or December. Hoping for an 87UB here...

Hey rwd, welcome to GeekHack!

Unfortunately, Bruce said earlier in this thread that they will only get the full-size models first. Also, Brian from EliteKeyboards mentioned that the 87U will probably be very difficult to find new outside of Korea due to changes in Topre's distribution (which are still ongoing).

I reccomend the full-size models though, but that's because I use the numpad and feel a bit naked without it :D

Hi Guys.

I'm hoping to have some news soon so I can post with accurate dates but things are well advanced and I'm optimistic we will have stock by the end of November or early December. We had a look at manual designs last week.

What I can say for sure is we ordered UK, German, Swedish/Finnish and French layouts.
I chose Topre Gold design.
That's a Black 105 Board, full size, with Gold lased lettering and Gold base plate.
I'm not sure how much of the base plate will be visible but I thought that was a nice touch. They will have the variable force switch array.

If there are any ANSI Tenkeyless models 'on the shelf' when our order is ready I will get some also but this is unsure right now.

It's a good compromise. It's readable, but not harsh.

why do people like the all 55g over an all 45g version anyway? the HHKB is all 45g, and its a middle weight compared to heavy 55g or light 30/35g.

What bad stories have you heard? I have 2 all 55g's and I love them. Never tried any other Topre weighting though. I just assumed that I would like it since I found cherry browns to be too light and black alps to be a good weighting but too...alps-y. I guess it's just a personal preference.

lol. He probably got worried looking at my thread. But I've actually grown to like my all 55g despite all the complaining I did. I still bottom out all the time when using, and I'm much slower on my Topre than on any other keyboard, but it feels like the 55g is meant to be bottomed out on, it just feels so nice when you do. (sounds great too).

There will be a time though when I try the variable weight.

(And I still love my Cherry brown board by the way)
