Each novelty kit features a color based on some of my favorite axolotl morphs. Repetition of novs is by design. Different layouts will need the faces on different rows to accommodate all 4. E.G. a TKL can fit all 4 in an f cluster but a 65 could put them in a macro column. The leucistic kit also has Ñ.

Still no samples despite several sets that have ran after mine receiving multiple rounds of samples already. I have been asking about them for months. I’m very frustrated by this process and would like to apologize to all the people who supported the group buy. I’m trying to move it along but KBDfans/epbt refuse to give me any kind of updated eta.

Latest news from kbdfans is that that epbt’s factory is completely shut down due to covid, so no idea when I’ll ever get samples.

I just received my first round of “samples”

I received only blank bars for each of the keycap colors. Not a single legend. So basically my samples are missing half the colors in the set.

Meanwhile epbt creative studio has full set samples despite never being in group buy. I have confronted kbdfans about this and expressed my frustration that I have hundreds of customers who have been told this would have been delivered already but they clearly do not care.

Update regarding deskmats:

The vendor in charge of deskmats had decided to delay the deskmats to be more in line with the extremely delayed epbt queue, after a conversation with them they have decided to produce the mats now so hopefully deskmat only orders won’t have to wait too much longer.

Also, post GB Kono notified me that they elected to manufacture there own mats rather than the manufacturer I/the other vendors decided on, so mat only orders from them are likely on a different timeline than the mats from every other vendor.

The incompetence of epbt/kbdfans continues. I was told my full set of prototypes was on the way to kbdfans a month ago. Today I get photos of plastic chips… of the colors I ALREADY approved.  Oh and they lost the Pantone chip for my alphas that I bought and mailed to them a year ago because for some reason they can’t buy a Pantone pastel and neons book for themselves.

Unfortunate update yet again,

I received my "full set prototype" (the entire accent kit and any of the multicolor novs are missing, presumably because these require reverse dyesub).

The alpha and modifier keys do not match the blanks that I approved nearly 4 months ago now.

PLEASE do not make final color judgments based on these photos, they're crappy cell phone pics purely to demonstrate the difference in color between the blanks I recieved previously vs the new "full set" of samples

This lighting is atrocious but it is what best allowed my camera to capture just how DIFFERENT these two colors are. Above is a BRIGHT pink enter key, below is a pastel pink blank. These should be the same color

left is the approved beige blank, right is a borderline brown blank from the new samples.

Under a bright ring light the difference is less noticeable, however IMO the pink is still far too bright on Enter sample compared to the original sample ( and this light is brighter than the light pantone recommends you match under, I'm just trying to best photograph what my eyes see )

I will also be having them change this pink legend color., its far darker than the renders so I'd like to bring it more in line with them.

The only good news is the Green on green. orange on yellow, and black on grey novelties look great and can be approved.



It has also been revealed that EPBT handles their queue VERY differently than other manus like GMK. Instead of spots in the queue being secured upon invoicing, spots are secured upon sample approval. This means once you approve your samples, you're put at the END of the list of sets with approved samples (Even ones that haven't started production yet!). EPBT/KBDfans cant give any reason why they do this rather than like GMK where if your spot in queue comes and your color aren't ready, they move onto the next set and then come back to you. This means people who bought sets like my own and EPBT Aesthetic that struggled to even get samples from EPBT get double screwed by long wait times.

Good to see some progress with the set! I heard reverse dye sub color matching is still a very difficult process.

So, what would happen if they held the production spot until a set is ready? Doesn't that mean no one else can get their already approved set made because they have to wait until the set in front of theirs to complete?

No, I’ll use GMK Dracula as an example since it had famously long color matching. When Draculas spot came and colors weren’t ready, they just kept making the next set in queue until draculas colors were approved, then it got the next production slot. Had dracula been an epbt set, it would have been pushed behind every set with approved samples, not just the current one being produced.

If epbt worked like GMK and axolotls was theoretically approved today, it would be the 8th set in queue. With the epbt system, if it was approved today it would be the 14th set in queue.

I have just been informed that kbdfans will not be requesting any more samples from epbt.

Kbdfans will “strictly control the quality”

I have NEVER seen a single key from the accent kit, a single multicolor novelty, and I have not approved the alpha legend color.

Afaik mats are still in production. The vendor in charge of mats didn’t want to produce them until the keyset was ready so they (understandably) wouldn’t have mats sitting around for ages but I convinced them to go ahead and make them now. I received mat samples 11/4 and approved them. I just realized I posted photos of the samples on my Instagram story but not anywhere permanent, I’ll try to take new photos of mats when I get the next round of keycap samples.

Do note that KONO uses their own mat manu and I never received a physical sample and they’ve given no timeline on when they plan on fulfilling mat only orders.

I see, thank you :) I don't have/use Insta so I don't generally know what happens there, but it's good to know that the mat samples were approved :) Since I am in the EU, I ordered the mat from Mykeyboard, so I can expect them to be arriving in about a month or two (or at least be on the lookout for a discord ping there). That's fine, nice to hear that all is slowly but surely working out as intended :)

Mats are completed and shipping to vendors according to Zion Studio, the vendor in charge of mats. Kono elected to produce their own mats

I don't know if it is funny, but I find it remarkable that a keycap set titled Axolotls is taking this absurdly long to move forward (I am completely aware that none of those delays are TyPo.mk's fault), it's almost as if, just like for the axolotl, time has lost some of its meaning :)
Still, it's great that the mats are completed and to be expected at the vendors soonish  :thumb:

Going off the photo, I feel that the legend color is still more saturated than renders but at this point I don't know if its different enough to warrant delaying the set even further and they may be as good as its going to get. I'll wait to see it with my own eyes before passing judgement

These samples are approved.
I think all the cap colors are PERFECT, the legend color is certainly more saturated than the renders and the chosen Pantone. I’m told the legend color was matched as closely to 217u as epbt can get so we’re going to move into production.

Keycap colors look great! Shame about the legends...I'm not unhappy with how the final product will turn out (based on your photos) but EPBT's entire sampling process seems totally ridiculous. Looking forward to having fun with all the cute accent colors and novelties when this eventually ships though!

The deeper legend colour looks like it changes the whole vibe of the set from that sample pic, at least to me. Will see how they look in person I guess. At least it's progress.

I asked about potentially another try at this color and to confirm they were matching 217U  and I’ve been told it’s as close as they can get so not really much else I can do. I told them it was too dark in the previous round of samples (7 months ago) and it’s maybe 1% lighter this time. I guess whatever method epbt is using now makes it difficult to hit these pastels with dyesub.

I will say in daylight the alpha legends look softer pink (less red hued) than the factory photo above but I’m struggling to capture it with my camera (I only have a phone camera atm)

I was lead to believe the vendor in charge of deskmats had shipped the other vendors their mats back and December (and no one else told me otherwise) but it seems there was a mix up and they never sent them until recently, hopefully mats arrive to vendors soon.

Also, Alphakeys.ca has gone radio silence and closed their discord to messages. They are not answering messages to arrange for shipping of the deskmats (keycap shipping was arranged awhile back)
If you’re an alphakeys customer do you best to contact them, I don’t know if they’re fulfilling orders at all or have gone out of business. It’s probably worth contacting your CC company/paypal if you bought from them.

That’s quite unfortunate. I joined the gb through alphakeys, and have since switched banks, so I can’t even contact them for a refund. I sent a message to Mike (owner of alphakeys) and no reply… sounds like I might be sol ?
