Out of curiosity what's the advantages of this set over a black-on-dark-gray dye sub set like ePBT, when ePBT is cheaper and won't shine as quickly as GMK?

To expand on compatibility: N9 base color is also seen in...Sky Dolch, Terminal, Skidata (&Skiidata), Eclipse alphas, Nines, Q:01 somewhere, GMK Burgundy mods, think I'm missing one. Terminal had an N9 blank ergodox kit. Skiidata had N9 split bars for cheap, and also had N9 relegendable caps. There's an N9 ortho set somewhere in buy phase. I'd wanted GMK Lux in N9 as it seems like a fine grey color and lets people enjoy mixing.

N9 is also in Carbon mods and Ocean Dolch alphas.

Just throwing it out there but grab ur RGBYO Dolch Kit from Oco to add a little splash of colour.

R2 i think is ever slightly different from r1 but i've never lined up those next to an N9 set (have R1 base r2 childs of carbon)

I have both blank N9 and Carbon keys (ergo kit from rd1) and the mod color from Carbon is very close to N9. It's not too noticeable and when I took a board to a meetup that had a couple blank Carbon mod keys among some N9 ones, most didn't even realize it until I pointed it out to them. N9 is so close to the Carbon mod color that I'm surprised T0mbry didn't go with N9. The same too could be said of GMK's stock orange color and the Carbon orange too - although I'd say the Carbon orange and GMK orange are further apart in color than Carbon mod and GMK N9 FWIW.

Base Kit just broke 100 sets!! moq is in striking distance with just under two weeks left. most of the child kits have low numbers, but are steadily slowly growing.
zfrontier is on vacation for CNY, and i am not sure when i will get another update from them on how their sales are going

yes, this is the first ever Black legend on Dark grey base GMK keycap set. You would think someone would have already run it by now! and the black and grey of this set are stock GMK colors, meaning they have both been used on different previous sets and they do not have to create a new custom color. this is also one of the coolest parts of the set, since it is just stock GMK colors it automatically matches a bunch of existing GMK keysets! comparing it to pbt BoB, i dont know if it will be darker or lighter

GMK will say 4.5 to 5 months after the close of the group buy. They're usually optimistic, and in the last 4-5 months, often quite late. I figure it'll be in my hands closer to 6 months out. Every set thst has a group buy that's running before the glut that's GMK dracula, camping, and Olivia (over 10000 base kits just with those 3) being produced, I figure is going to have delays.

That question would be better placed with your particular vendor. However, it’s common practice that you’ll have the choice between getting a refund for that specific kit only or for your whole order.

I did it. After years of lurking and debating I finally went in on a group buy. In on the gmk dark. I was interested in firefly, but need a 6u Spacebar. This set offers a really nice mix and match with future kits.

Toby, unfortunately i dont know what the situation is on ISO kit. we may not find out for a couple weeks since we dont expect to get an update from zfrontier until the week of February 10 due to the extension of CNY. candykeys has not indicated that they will buy out the ISO kit either, so without some major help from china it is not looking great. if it doesn't make it, you will need to coordinate a refund or partial refund from the vendor you purchased from.

Toby, unfortunately i dont know what the situation is on ISO kit. we may not find out for a couple weeks since we dont expect to get an update from zfrontier until the week of February 10 due to the extension of CNY. candykeys has not indicated that they will buy out the ISO kit either, so without some major help from china it is not looking great. if it doesn't make it, you will need to coordinate a refund or partial refund from the vendor you purchased from.

I really hope it gets made. This set would be ideal for the build I'm trying to make but without the ISO kit it really just won't happen. I imagine at least a few of the other people who ordered would feel the same.

yep, ISO did not make moq and it was not close enough for the vendors to buy out. we even went back to GMK to see if they would lower moq but they were not willing to do that

yeah, GMK's lead times have been pushed back. i asked for an updated ship date and they said they could not give me one at this time.

they are blaming delays on covid, but apparently they were determining lead times assuming that they would have new equipment installed and operating by this time. the equipment has been delayed due to that manufacturer, again blaming delays on covid. imo, this is a pretty thin excuse.

to temper our expectations, i would suggest that we not expect GMK to ship to the vendors until next month. that may mean that the buyers won't actually receive our caps until October

Honestly really disappointed in the lack of communication from GMK/TKC. I don't mind setbacks or delays but when we don't a single update for months then have a expected delivery date go by with nothing said from them, it doesn't exactly inspire confidence, if you know what I'm getting at.

That's the original expected date IIRC, and if they stick to it, all is good.
The fact they entered production in March gave us hope the kit will be delivered ahead schedule.

The 1u keys have a slight different (grainer) texture than the larger keys, there are visible tooling/molding marks on the side of the keys, and... the keys were really dirty - dust and filth on the inside of the keys.
Also, this is the first GMK set I got with the new "eco" box and it really makes it feel cheaper than the previous ones.

You'd think for $120+ pieces of plastic, the packaging experience would be a lot better. The 'eco' packaging is a marketing ploy, likely to save costs, because I would assume a large portion of the folks buying & collecting supposed high-end custom keycaps are not throwing away the "nice" box that it comes in, thus not affecting the planet in a negative way.

Also, in the photos above posted by bnj2, the infamous 'Z' 'Insert' 'Home' & 'Print' misalignment & blotching issues still have not been resolved, despite GMK being fully aware of these issues. It also looks like F8 is affected as well, but it's hard to see without closeups. My $100 Leopold has better legend alignment than that.

I guess I feel a little disillusioned, but I should have known better.

That said, the set looks good. I hope I'm wrong, but we'll see when it gets here.

I agree with you on the new trays. One German music retailer uses this same biodegradable material as packing filler and I usually save things like styrofoam packing peanuts to reuse but this stuff just turns to dust after a while.

If someone were to do a GB for GMK's OG plastic trays with clips except "fatter" to fit in their new bandoliers I would be down. Because not only will those not break down the caps don't move around in them in storage with the sets stored vertically.

What really bothers me is the difference in texture between 1u and the other keys. It's hard to get it on camera, but it really makes the keys look different shades of gray.

Thanks for those pictures. Not as bad as I had previously thought but still not what I would expect at the price point they offer. The 'Esc' also looks scuffed but that one is definitely not exclusive to Dark. :p

I've watched the gif many times over, but I'm still not one hundred percent certain I can tell what's off with them. To me, the 1U keys seem to have a really really light brown tinge to them? Or a lighter grey. I don't know, probably not something a camera can pick up.

It arrived! :D Not sure if I got lucky or QC has improved recently but only the 'End' and 'Esc' keys seem to be a little misaligned, but it's been worse on other sets.

Depending where you are located, sign up for the newsletter of your preferred vendor (if they have one) so that you can be prepared. The Key Company for example is really good about announcing when the extras will be offered.

Did this groupbuy end? It looks like there are still some Base kits available from AUS Vendors... I live in the US and trying to check if there was any base kits left from Novelkeys but their website is down until 09/03.!!! I really want this base kit please!

I split some extras with another person in the USA many (9?) months ago and I believe most of the AUS extras were sold out not long after.

Aftermarket is your best bet. GMK Grey on Black in IC might scratch a similar itch, though.

Yep that's right. We bought substantial extras and kept it in stock for a good month too so definately made a heap of people around the World a little happier. We had 2 kits left. One is about to be given away via Brandon Taylor's Youtube Channel BTAesthetics (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCu8NKc_cgwZJRBnsVvqZAVg) and the other will stay here to use in a future giveaway (Or barter haha)

Extras for this set are long gone by now. Your only options currently are to either buy a set in the aftermarket, or wait for a second round of this set to be run.
