Being in HHKB layout is that why it’s called Happy?

I think so(?)

Would think its more for the form factor than layout since it was also available with a "standard" top.

That's what people call the Cherry MX Silent Black stem in Zealio housing = MX Zilent

This was a trend BEFORE Zeal released the tactile Zilent switch lol

It's sort of silly to say the least -- I think Zeal could have chosen a different name, or people could be clearer in how they describe it. I choose to call them Hybrid Zilents or Linear Zilents

At long last, this kit had been sitting since I received it, waiting for a slew of components for it to be built and also waiting for me to have the leisure to build it with care. I did a bit of a hack-job cutting an extra, b-stock FR4 plate I had from the RedBanshee/BadNewsCaps' mini-GB, and created a half-plate, saving some cash from not sourcing one of the polycarbonate kind.

62g Vintage MX Blacks (of two kinds: PCB-mount from an old Minicom typewriter and plate-mounted switches sourced from an old WYSE) and an equally-weighted MX Linear Grey spacebar switch for that classic look. The keyboard has been fitted with a nearly complete Sabre-brand, Cherry-made (G81-1905HPU) keyset -- (95% of keys with legends have dye-sublimated legends; a mix of BSP-made and Cherry-made keys).

Keycult No 1. blue-grey prototype with a chrome-plated mid-piece.

The keyboard has been fitted with a nearly complete BSP "Desko Black" keyset -- (95% of keys with legends have dye-sublimated legends; a mix of BSP-made and Cherry-made keys).

Keycult No 1. blue-grey prototype with a chrome-plated mid-piece.

Lmaoooo I love this!

The Clack matches are so so lovely. Can you name or edit in the colorways? Which alphas are you using on the Orion?

Which keysets on the Viper? Love the Rep. of Korea theme. I really should dedicate a build to my Korean motherland...

edit: am dumb - items are listed on Flickr description box.

Were the orange legends on the original sets double shot (I can't remember)?

I asked this question to some other fellow Cherry collecting enthusiasts. The consensus seems like it's that any of the keys with orange legends are PBT dyesub, but there will be mix of ABS doubleshots and PBT dyesubs in sets that come from the original Desko terminal keyboards. However, I cannot confirm for I do not own the set. Puddsy should inspect the sublegend containing keys to confirm.

The look is vintage, but the keyboard is "contemporary"

Great pictures dude; these almost make me want to start collecting again. The TKL G80 rep looks lovely.

Is the Cherry LED an original, or has it been reproduced recently? If the former, is it from a 2000 or 2100?

Thank you, much appreciated comment, especially coming from a fellow vintage Cherry enthusiast ;)

I cannot confirm the origin of the Cherry LED keycap unfortunately as I got this from a seller and they did not disclose its source. Apologies for that! My educated guess that I can provide you at the moment is that it is sourced from a GMK Classic Beige set, the one that was once run by xiaodian317 in Asia. Cheers!
