Bump!  :)

How many people are growing a fine beard for November?

The real question is, for those of you men with beards, how many of you aren't trimming or shaping them for November?

it's "no shave november" in english and "beardember" in russian, neither of the names requires anyone to not trim their beard :p

Exactly and the answer is "I shave for no month" but happy to donate to a good cause. I didn't realise there was so much awesome among GeekHackers!

I'll have to take a new picture when there is light out, my beard has come a long way since this thread started! Actually been going to the barbers about twice a month to get a trim otherwise it's like a face afro hahaha
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Growing mine out.  Looks funny, because my cheeks don't fill in for ****, and I already had a goatee so the lengths aren't uniform.

Yeah, I think I am just going to come straight down with the sideburns, down to the jawline.  Just to neaten it up.  Still need to find a good barbershop for beards.  I don't trust myself with scissors to get it evened up.

Agreed. I would not let anyone touch my beard unless they were a seasoned professional; and even then I would still be flighty. I think I would just let them line up my cheeks if anything. My hair is curly enough that I can get away with just using a balm to keep it somewhat neat. I'll snip any stubborn hairs that stick way out.

Though the most aggravating part about my beard is the hair doesn't grow out and down.  It goes from left to right.  So if I want to shave against the grain I have to go sideways.  Makes a goatee look funny cause the right side always looks fuller than the left side.

So what do you guys use for a brush or beard oil?

I think my long term goal for my beard is to have my beard and hair hang to the same level.  I know I have a long way to go there.

Yesterday, I asked the wife about going full on Billy Gibbons beard.  Yeah, I didn't exactly get a positive reaction.

I'll have to take new pics soon, mine is way longer than it was when this started. Having to hit the barbers at least once a month these days otherwise it's all over the show.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

So what do you guys use for a brush or beard oil?

I've been using Honest Amish Heavy Duty Beard Balm for a little bit now. I like it overall. I have curly hair, and this stuff seems to straighten it out a bit (which is fine with me; makes it look more full) but it is a bit shiny/greasy. I use a small comb to get out any tangles, like this one
More
. I'm almost out of Honest Amish, and I want to try something different; so I ordered Wild Willie's Beard Butter. It's a bit more expensive than the Honest Amish, but it's not supposed to leave an greasy residue.

The one problem with beard balm is that if you don't get it all mixed into your beard well, you may go out and about looking like someone jizzed in your beard.

The one problem with beard balm is that if you don't get it all mixed into your beard well, you may go out and about looking like someone jizzed in your beard.

Right "looks like"

I wondered how long it would take you to comment on that.  Much faster than expected.

Heh, I think I had that issue once when I didn't warm it up enough; it can be even worse with wax.

The Honest Amish balm is pretty good at turning from a solid to an oil. My bathroom gets rather warm when I shower, which makes the balm super soft and easy to work with by the time I'm ready to apply. I comb my beard out maybe once a week; any other time I apply balm or oil I just rub it in. I also wash my face with African black soap, which does a great job of removing dirt and oils from your face, without leaving any residue whatsoever. Perfect "platform" for applying balm/oil, IMO.

Toothpaste dribbling down your beard is just as bad, if not worse.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
