Hey guys, I have a question for you all.

I bought this board pre-assembled from someone else. The way they assembled it, it doesn't have arrow keys. How can I modify the board to have arrow keys? I assume it will involve de-soldering and re-soldering switches.

Has anyone done this before? are there instructions to follow?

Thanks :)

i assume your layout is like the first one..

Show Image

you must desolder red color keys on first layout.
and change it to green color keys on second layout.

its 1.75u shift - 1.5u alt/crtl - arrow keys - 1u Num 0

hope it helps

Won't work unfortunately. He will need to desolder all the switches to remove the stabilizers on RShift and pad0. ._.

aw you right, i forgot about the stabilizer

thats too bad  :(

Thanks guys. I also got a PM from Lunaris on Reddit where he said the same thing. I'm going to try this next month! I've never assembled or disassembled a board before so I'm excited to learn more about custom boards :)

assemble a board is much more easier than disassemble. trust me.
better get someone who really good at desoldering to disassemble it than have to burned the zz96 PCB

Has anyone seen what an ISO ZZ96 looks like? I am thinking about slapping an ISO enter on there. Not sure 100% yet though.

Does this support a short left shift? the layout picture isn't clear on that I don't think

Both the PCB and plate supports breaking the LShift into two keys. And that actually brought my attention to a good point - if the LShift was broken up, the plate would not support removing the switch top.

I'll talk to the designer about that.

Wanna sell me one? :)

I'm probably jumping the gun. I think I can do it no problem if I'm careful and use all the right tools.

I'm going to assemble mine with ISO layout, if you're willing to wait for a bit before you decide :p

Fronted the money for PCB fabrication, and added an extra hundred dollars for changing the PCB color to black (good news for those of you who said they didn't like the red).

I'm putting a board together w/ those stabs tonight to test out the feels.

Not super impressed by the appearance, but we'll see. Gonna be using my leftover 67g Zealios, stock. I have boards w/ the gold-plated stabilizers and regular Chinese stabilizers for comparison.

Incidentally, after looking at this post I went to purchase two for fun. It's written there that it's not perfect upon releasing the key due to additional rubber(?) feet on the base. For anyone else who wants to purchase one, they've ran out of stock till next week : x

Technically, if you don't care about salvaging the stabilizer, you could use side cuts to break the stab housing into smaller pieces that will come out since it's on the bottom row the bar itself will come out once the plastic is cut enough.

Just be very careful where and how you cut. Do it right and all you'll destroy is the plastic stab housing.

100 RMB is $15.26. If everybody added that, we'd be back to where we started. But I don't think there will be any more major problems w/ the buy - this was just very unexpected. The contingency fund is supposed to go towards payment for the one in charge of fulfilling the orders in the US (as it is a long and tedious task), stuff like this, and 1-2 replacements should severe accidents happen during delivery, which is why I'd like to reestablish it if possible.

I will have to make time to gather up the total amount and send out another round of invoices/requests.

Appreciate all your support.

gadzkun, I'll ask the guy and get back to you on this asap. It's doable, can't have too many characters, and won't cost extra, but can't do more than a couple cases because it gets really difficult to sort. PM me details if you want to do it.

It sounds like both cases and PCBs have entere the production phase now. I know it os still early days but have the factories given you a rough ETA?

Not yet. The PCBs should finish well before the cases, but will need to be tested and have their resistors/diodes soldered one by one.

I think two months is a reasonable estimate for the cases. If that changes, I'll update the thread.

I wouldn't call myself "experienced" but I have built a handful of boards. One hand-wired and two PCB keyboards. All built without an issue. (Except for the programming  >:D ) If you don't find anyone else I'd be happy to help. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

I can handle a couple assemblies depending on the switch type. Zealios would be difficult to source and also easy to get lost in transit when shipped to China. Gateron switches and LEDs would be cheaper to source. Shipping costs won't change, but there will be an assembly fee.
