Perixx thumb-operated trackballs
« on: Tue, 17 January 2017, 10:20:06 »
I was browsing Amazon the other day, and found a couple of thumb-operated trackballs under the Perixx brand, namely Perimice 517 (wired; link) and 717 (wireless; link). Ratings look mediocre, but has anyone around here used one of these?

Specification:
  • right-handed, thumb-operated trackball
  • 34mm ball
  • optical tracking, 1000/1600/2000 dpi steps
  • 7 buttons, incl. wheel
  • USB/wireless (w/ proprietary nano receiver) depending on model
  • dimensions: 130×107×45 mm
There's only a brief mention at Perixx' website.

That case design looks very "Mionix-y". It looks like it would be very comfortable to use.

The shape looks like something between Logitech TrackMan Marble Wheel and Elecom M-XT*, and it's about the same size, thus there probably isn't enough support for a large palm (not to the same extent as MS Trackball Optical anyway). Could be a nice modern alternative.

I'm mainly concerned with reliability and/or smoothness.
