Propped up mouse pad
« on: Fri, 14 July 2017, 18:47:21 »
So the other day I had a thought.  What would it feel like if someone where to prop up the back side of a hard mouse pad?

Has anyone tried or be willing to try?

Thoughts on the idea?  I wasn't thinking much, no more than the keyboard.  Probably about half was my thinking.

Sloping work desks are available: http://www.hermanmiller.com/products/workspaces/desks/envelop-desk.html

You could build a ghetto version, but it might be really uncomfortable if you have your wrist bent upward?

This is NOT the solution ..

All laid back sitting postures have 1 thing in common.   it is trying to relieve you of having to use core, back, and hip muscles to remain upright.

This coupled with the quantity of time we'd spend IN such a chair,  leads to atrophy.

The Atrophy leads to general bad posture, be it hip rotation, or sloped backs.

The poor alignment leads to unnatural bone wear, giving you pain in odd places.

Finally it all culminates in a young guy mopping about like the hunchback of notre dame.

---- Except in the real world,  you don't get the girl.

Standing desk is the right way to go..

Even then, you can't stand all day..

For the few hours that your legs will give out,  take ANY chair, sit at the very edge, feet on the ground, BACK STRAIGHT..

Rotate your hip forward as much as possible..    Use your MUSCLES to keep your lower and upper back in a position similar to standing..

----  If you can't do that,    it's time to go lay down and sleep..

Have you got something against janitors now? you're anti-moppist, that's what you are. Shameful :p

I do the same, this one was good though - hunchbacks with mops conjured some good mental images  :)

@ Mel,

If you're sitting at a height where your elbow is MUCH higher than the mousing surface, you could indeed use a downward slope.

But the limit would be the static friction between the mouse and mouse pad,  because otherwise, your mouse would slide off.
