Elecom M-HT1DRBK HUGE Wireless Trackball
« on: Mon, 07 August 2017, 00:46:01 »
Just a thought... what does everyone think about this trackball?

I'm trying to decide in between this and the Kensington Slimblade.

I own both. I'd go with the Slimblade. The Elecom HUGE doesn't quite have the right hand shape. The right side of it is too flat, and the thumb groove is too deep.
Layout: Colemak
Fastest typing speed: 131 WPM on typeracer, 136 WPM on 10fastfingers.
Daily driver: Filco Tenkeyless MX Brown with ergonomically weighted, lubed springs.
Ergo keyboards: Truly Ergonomic, Kinesis Advantage, Ergodox

Thanks for that.. I actually bought myself a Slimblade a couple of days ago. Absolutely love it. Love the scrolling feature - very intuitive. The scrolling of the Huge was one factor against its favor in one review that I read online.

However only issues with the Kensington, on Mac OS, the back button function only works in the browsers. No where else. The other issue is that coming from a using a mouse, it is rather hard to fast and accurate with the movements, right clicking, etc. - compared with using a thumb operated ball like the Logitech M570.

Interested?
Here are a couple of reviews for you.

thank you, I will definitely grab it when possible  :thumb:

EDIT: the price of this trackball on amazon is $86 but on elecom's website (http://www2.elecom.co.jp/products/M-HT1DRBK.html) it's 15347 jpy ($140), I wonder why is there a difference.

Probably they're factoring in worldwide shipping direct from Japan. Whereas from Amazon it depends on the dealer network.
Honestly I'm not sure why the pricing difference or how Amazon works, but I'm sure that there is a logical explanation.

AFAIK the MSRP is always overblown and prices on eBay/Amazon drop a lot in several months. MSRP for DEFT was $85 and actual prices quickly dropped to $40. That's why I'm waiting too.

The wired version of this device has been out for a while. Still can't find much of reviews on it actually.

It's only like, 10mm longer than the CST L-trac. I like my L-trac and I don't think it's too big, although the ball is closer to the centre than it is on this model. I guess it's personal preference whether or not you like your palls at the edge or the middle  :))
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?
