[IC] Noxary 268.1
« on: Sun, 17 September 2017, 15:05:02 »

This is my 2nd creation following on from X60. Everything is different if I compare the two boards directly, but the philosophy is still the same: 8 degrees angle, top mount, and a simple silhouette. I started with two main goals of decreasing the bezel size and making the plate lower to the desk. I believe I've gone to the maximum that's possible with the material, and not much could be improved without sacrificing structural integrity. Hopefully it's worth the hundreds of hours that's gone into this project.

The buy will begin shortly after I receive the sample (about 3 weeks away).

Case Information:
  • 6061 Aluminum
  • 8 Degrees Angle
  • Brass Weight with Engravings
  • Thinnest Top Mount Bezels (4.6/3mm)
  • Lowest Plate to Desk (7.7mm)
  • Optional .5u Blocker

Supported Layouts:

68 key may change. To put it simply, it will be the layout I want to use.

Plates:
  • Top Mounted Plate with Switch Opening
  • Universal or 68 Key Plate
  • Clear Polycarbonate, Anodized Aluminum, or Polished Brass
  • Partial Polycarbonate 68 Key Available
PCB:
  • Custom QMK PCB by Rozakiin
  • Presoldered Controller, Diodes & Resistors
  • Mini USB
  • Interchangable For winkeyless.kr 22mini

268 AG:
  • Limited to 22 Units
  • Anodizing or Cerakoting
  • Brass Through Weight with Individual Numbering
  • Polycarbonate, Brass, or Aluminium Plate
Cerakoting is likely to add $50 or so to the case price.

268:
  • 20 Units
  • Dark Gray or Silver Case
  • Brass Through Weight
  • Polycarbonate, Brass, or Red Aluminium Plate

Price (excluding fees + shipping):
  • Case (Top/Weight/Bottom) - $320
  • Plate - $30
  • PCB - $30
Shipping:

I'll be shipping with DHL Express again, with most packages taking 1-3 days for a good price. I'll be shipping from the United Kingdom; local taxes and fees apply. Estimates for shipping are as follows: United States - $40; United Kingdom - $20; Europe - $30-35; Asia - $50-60.

Deadline & Lead Times:

I'll allow 1 week after starting for payment. After this, the order can be submitted to the factory and will take about 6-8 weeks to arrive.

Thanks for reading. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them. Thanks.

2017 sure is the year of the 65%  :)

Best of luck on this Xondat! I really like the style of your other boards  :thumb:

A million times Yes! But I hope it is done in large enough quantity so some of us can get in.

Nice weight design on the AG  :thumb:
Oh and filleted edges. They feel smoother under the finger.
Will brass plates be offered in future rounds of the L? Gotta be quick if you want one.

I will probably do FCFS, not sure there is enough demand to bother with raffle.

Plan to offer as many colors as possible with the AG, I want to offer lots of freedom with the builds.

A million times Yes! But I hope it is done in large enough quantity so some of us can get in.

Well now there are 42, which might be enough. If not, I can do more runs of 268L.

Thanks! Yeah it should feel smoother. I think it looks nicer and makes it look even thinner.

Not too sure. I might offer it for this round, but still have to consider costs and ultimately whether it's different enough from aluminum. I'll build identical boards, just different plate material, and see whether it's worth it.

Thanks again for the support, can't wait to receive and show the prototype to everyone.

Very interested. When?

Shortly after I receive the sample which will be in 2.5-3 weeks.

If that is indeed the pcb I'll be in for alps. Will you release the plate dimension and such so I can design my own alps plate?

I'm not sure I'd officially support it, but I'd be happy to work with someone in getting an Alps plate if they really wanted it.

Curious what's happening with the super fast GBs. Normal seems at least +6 months. Is 6-8 weeks to arrive for completed keyboard?
Is it because you already done prototype? Also curious about the anodization, will it look simular to x60 boards?

6-8 weeks is the time I'm allowing for the manufacturer to make and ship. Using the lead times on the quotes, and how long the sample will take, it should be plenty. Of course I can't predict the future, but the design is set and it will be a case of asking for x numbers of parts and waiting.

The sample already being in production, and not starting the buy before receiving it will make the wait look quite a bit shorter for participants, so I guess it helps.

Anodizing should be like the Fjell and Klippe. Anodizing does vary per batch, but the factory have shown good work so far. There are many great pictures of the Fjell around, and hopefully the Klippe soon. Here are a couple:

What do people think of cerakoting? I want to offer it but I think it'll be too complex, and of course it's added choice as it's not done at the factory.

I'll also post a pre-engraving picture of the 268L weight later :p

I wanted cerakote so I could get beige.  I've always wanted a high quality beige case. But if you don't have a manufacturer who you know can do a great job, we'd probably be safer to go without the option.

Why don't people make nice quality custom ABS cases?  Still hoping one day someone will  :(

Oh that's a good point.

When I said too complex, I mean logistically. I think it'd probably be worth it for those that want it? The quality looks good, I'll have to try and get some pictures.

Is it possible to put a very thin acrylic diffuser in the seam between the tot and bottom parts for those who wishe?  In my opinion it looks better, somehow masking the tiny gap.

Nope. Since the PCB is attached to the top piece, and the USB hole is on the bottom piece, any added thickness would mean they don't line up. Besides that point, diffusers and LEDs are ugly :'(

Sooooo... when can I give you money :D

8th of October or so? ;D
