Which ****ing ps2-usb adapter will work?

I have 2 Model M's with german layout and the key right of the left shift key does not register.
First i bought this usb-adapter:

And after i read about the issue here i bought this one which was recommended as working:

None of them works, on none of my M's, on none of my Computers.
So please, can anybody tell me which ****ing Adapter i need to buy?

First off, are you sure that key is working when you connect it to PS/2?

If it is... then I dunno.

Got any friends with a computer with a PS/2 port? I've got an old desktop that does three things:

1. Serves web pages and files
2. Runs irssi
3. Has PS/2 ports, for testing keyboards and such

Another thing, isn't ps/2 hot-pluggable?
When i disconnect the adapters they wont work again until i reboot.
This is driving me insane.

PS/2 is a weird beast. It's not hotpluggable under Windows, but is under Linux.

But, that's irrelevant - USB IS hotpluggable, and the adapters I've used... worst case is that I'd have to unplug it and plug it back in when disconnecting or connecting a PS/2 device.

Looks like it works. Let's see if I can find it on ebay...

But I think the adapter does a simple signal conversion. This should not affect a single key. The reason for the key not working must be elsewhere, IMO.

Im using Linux but i just noticed that the vivanco adapter i got is not the same model as the one that was recommended.
So im gonna get the right one now.

Unless the USB converter isn't passing the scancodes straight through, and only passes the scancodes that a standard US 104-key keyboard can generate...

I had the same problem with a PS/2 to USB adapter that looks like your first one, as reported here: http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?t=1076&page=2#post13473

It looks like some adapters just won't work with the 105th key found in ISO layout (the one to the right of left shift) and they'll only "see" the 104 keys in ANSI keyboards.

The issue that I've seen with some PS/2-USB adapters is with 102/105 key UK layouts, where the \ | key isn't sent.  This is a huge issue if for example you need to access network shares.
