I'm telling ya, 7pm tonight when my test starts I'll get screwed by more than just my test.

Pieces of plastic are definitely more important than school. The solution to this problem couldn't be any clearer. Just skip the test.....
No ****. They don't even teach you proper economics. Look at all the people around here who think that a piece of plastic isn't worth so much. Um, wrong!

So how do we call the new candy corn and candy corn skull? I just don't understand when people call Purple P1 or P2.

Well, the thread is 7 pages long, I'm kind of expecting these keycaps to come delivered in a bed of ambrosia and be accompanied by some holy light, lol.

I'm not knocking them at all, in fact I might buy one or two myself since recent events have made buying a Topre 'board all but out of the question. So I was just wondering if there was more behind it than a sale on these two cap variants.

The Oktoberfest one is a new design.

CC keycaps are very much sought after, and the recent Hack Orange sale sold out in about 3 seconds.

Because this one has been announced in advance by EK everyone is hoping to be able to get one of the keycaps at the original price, rather than waiting for massively inflated prices in auctions or sales later on.

^^ When I saw the top of that screen capture I thought for a moment someone had already acquired one and posted a pic of it on their keyboard.

Time to settle down now ...

I started a prototype one a while back because of your old avatar. I went with the next generation one.

I don't remember that avatar, but I would love one of those keys. PLEASE make them!! Any thing Trek and not Klingon would keep me up at night waiting for the delivery.

The Next Gen badge would cool, but so would the one from Voyager. Or maybe even a warp core ...

Perhaps I remember it wrong. I did think it was a bit of coincidence myself. Must have been someone else's avatar.

Any who, I suppose I should revisit it soon-ish then.  =)

I hope CCs are never mass-produced. It might guarantee getting one, but would seriously reduce the joy of owning one.

What do you mean cheapen the brand? My two CCs sit in a plastic box just like all my other $3 signature plastics keys. I enjoy them just as much as any other key caps I can put on my keyboard. Making them super rare, and crazy expensive in the after market just makes it more frustrating then it needs to be to acquire and own them. It seems pretty selfish to want to be one of the few lucky to get in on a sale, or privileged being invited to private sales, or custom orders that not just anyone can place. Then again this keyboard and key cap hobby is the most selfish hobby I've ever had, so maybe it just comes with the territory. I hate when things turn into "from the community, but for a few"

CC has put his creative talents to making something fairly unique (first time I have seen a skull quite like this), and found a receptive target market.

There are enough CC skulls (and other Clack Factory keycaps) that those who really want them can obtain one, but they are not off the shelf products that anyone could own.

Thus there is still a certain amount of exclusivity to owning one, especially the rarer ones (army green anyone?).

I don't know about them actually being actually hand carved by actual gnomes, but if they were factory mass-produced they would have much less appeal.

There was a lot of use of the word 'actual' in that last sentence. But rowdy is right, for the most part.

just wish there was some little code or something on these caps so we can tell they came from this buy (when it ever goes ahead) so we can snuff out any profiteering. $35 cap that sells for a real market value of $100 plus... alot of people are going to be tempted.

That's interesting coming from someone who pays top dollar for CC's on auction.

lol I have my doubts about gnomes, especially after playing Half-Life 2 and getting the launch gnome into space achievement.  After lugging that gnome around nearly the whole game, one becomes somewhat leery of gnomic references.

But I'm sure CC's gnomes are the nice sort :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

are you ****ing kidding me you are personally responsible for a portion of that profiteering and overvaluing. don't make this a community-wide issue when you are part of the money- hemorrhaging club.

i'm not trying to flame but that post is ridiculous coming from you, man.

alot of people are going to be tempted.

I spend money on caps like a retard, too (hell, I've got a $160 bid on a julysicle up on ebay right now...)and as such I won't comment on the rest of what you state, but the phrase is "a lot".  Alot is a creature, so what you're saying is an alot made of people will be tempted.
