Hence the spreadsheet! :)) I need to update it tomorrow, then I'll share it. During college I was watching 20+ shows on the air, but it has since settled down and I'm working through my backlog of shows that have already aired.

This is why I love Plex. It tracks it for me. Personal collection is outrageous. And this is post-scrub and rebuild. I still have a TON of movies on my old JBOD array that I haven't had time to move yet.

Without giving any spoilers, at the end of every episode I kept thinking how is this still going.

My wife insisted that we watch it. When the first episode was over, I got up and said, "Well, that was good. I'm glad it's over."
And she said "What? There are 10 episodes."
This is a joke right? The KITTEN BOWL IS ON!
I recently had a marathon of the Die Hard series. 1 and 2 were great, 3 was okay, 4 and 5 were disgraces to the series.
I'm midway through my 4th rewatch of The Fast & Furious or whatever variation of the name it is. Bad movies, bad acting, but I love them.

Swap your rating of 2 and 3 and that's how I feel as well.
any good scifi lately guyz ?
that dark matter show turned into to kind of a let down..
The new season of X Files is not so great. You'd get a similar experience sitting next to some dude in a tinfoil hat on the bus and letting him ramble for 40 minutes. That's what these new episodes feel like, just tiring and tedious. the third episode (of the 3 I've seen) is by far the best one. Episodes 1 and 2 are lame, especially episode 2 which was just flat out bad.You just can't find that sort of quality live entertainment anymore. I haven't spoken to a tin foil hat person in a while.
The best thing I've watched recently is With Bob And Dave on Netflix. One of the funniest and creative sketch comedy programs in many years. Would recommend.
And in terms of movies: I recently saw The Little Prince. What an absolutely lovely and endearing film! I cannot believe this one flew under the radar like this, it's better than most recent Pixar films. If you have the time and want to watch something beautiful and wonderful go see The Little Prince.
The Super Bowl, of course.

It's only worth watching for the commercials. This is when companies try their hardest to put out some good ones. Most fail.

At the risk of whatever ridicule it may bring, here is my master list of TV shows (https://www.dropbox.com/s/35rj7z7c0x4xa01/01_TVShow_List.xls?dl=0)...
I started making it because I was curious how much time I had spent watching various TV shows over the years. In order to have any episodes counted, I must have begun watching the series from episode 1 and watched continuously up to that point. Obviously I have watched many more days of television over the years, but that is not the point of this exercise.
Purple shading indicates shows I'm currently watching (depends on the day, I rotate around), and yellow shading indicates shows that I need to re-assess where I am (AKA it's been awhile).

That's one of my favorites. I just started watch Sherlock on Netflix and its pretty damn good.
I quite like Sherlock for the superb acting and persona..
However, i can't help but feel the cases are rather inconsequential.. yes it's sherlock holmes, but he's like an errand boy for triviality.. does it really matter that he solves what he solves.. it may be a mystery, but it's overall unimportant and of little consequence..
I find that to be the folly of the whole ordeal.

Oh man Sealab 2021!
Been binging on original X-Files for about 2 weeks now, in preparation for watching the new series! Such a great show, didn't realise it was gonna be so creepy, always thought of it as kind of campy and goofy.
That was during my "watch all the shows that were cancelled after one season, hoping to find a gem" phase. :)) Of course, I knew that one was **** going into it, but oh well. :P

ok i can understand where you are coming from. the only show that i can think of the top of my head that meets that criteria would be mission hill, lucy the daughter of the devil, and snuff box. i guess a lot of weird tv and anime can pull off a one season thing.

Well IMO there are a few more. ;)
In order of preference:
- Clone High
- Firefly
- Freaks and Geeks
- Cromartie High School
- Flash Forward
- Drive (not amazing, but worth a quick watch)

i'm sure there are, those were the couples i could think of at the time. but yeah i've seen the first 4 in your list, really solid shows. if you enjoyed freaks and geeks you might want to check out undeclared. it's made by judd apatow and it's basically a light hearted freaks and geeks in college. also another good one season show.

I hear the xfiles episode this week is supposed to be one of the creepiest things to air on tv ever. Last weeks was easily one of the funniest xfiles episodes ever though.

It's pretty brutal. Every character in it is quite self serving, but I guess that's how big business works..? IDK.
It's good, although it's kind of like a regular TV show where story lines are started and finished in one episode. It's a bit strange, but it obviously has the regular long story lines throughout the series.
But it's pretty cool. I don't know what to compare it to in keyboard terms.

That would make for an interesting plot. Right on, I was planning on reading the books. I'm a little more excited now that I know the books explain some of the lingo.I just finished watching season 1 of "The Expanse".Are the James S. A. Corey books better than the show? Now i'm reading the books to fill in all the details.
Well i'm only half way through book 1, "Leviathan Wakes", and i will say that the show and the books are very close in content. I'll be honest, i missed a lot in the show that the book is clarifying and filling in for me. They did a good job of creating unique lingo/slang and verbiage for the Belters and if you aren't familiar with it, you miss what they are talking about. The show apparently contained quite a bit of the UN politics from book 2 in order to make it more dramatic i guess? I'm not sure yet. The book is well written (I've heard James S.A. Corey is actually 2 authors that write for George RR. Martin i think?) and moves the plot quickly by telling the story from Holden's ship and Miller's search for Julie Mao. The story is about to cross paths in Eros so i expect it will change a bit. I don't want to give away any spoilers for people that are about to binge watch it that haven't already. Heck i might re-watch it after i finish this first book. One thing they seem to be starting with in the book is that they have this ship, it can transport things and run missions that require stealth/no transponder/guns and they can make money doing it - a lot like the plot to Firefly. Which i hope they work with as a story line and the politics as a backdrop. I'm not super interested in political stuff which is kinda why i don't want to read Game of Thrones.
TL;DR I liked the show, the 1st book so far is really well written. The show follows the book mostly. I'm hoping it makes watching the show easier to follow.
I'm still watching MST3K (the digital download price is reasonable when compared to the price of all box sets!). I saw a few episodes as a kid but I think I watched them on the scifi channel and by then the show wasn't the same. Taking a break from anime for a bit

Blasted through this yesterday, definitely one of the best shows I've watched in a while. It feels like an 8 hour movie to be honest, but it's very well done in my opinion. Has a very Super 8 meets E.T. vibe to it, but it sucks you in from the get go.
Definitely recommend it
Been looking for a new show lately. Tried watching House Of Cards - did not like. too boring. Tried watching Peaky Blinders - can only understand half of what they are saying. also boring. Tried Todd Margret - ugh, terrible. absolutely terrible. Tried American Horror Story - actually got through the first episode, but completely lost interest in the second. Boring.
There is nothing good on Netflix anymore. Most of the movies are made for TV **** fests, and all the new shows are boring.

Already watched it. It was ok, not remotely close to the hype people give it. Some of the characters (Mal, Kaylee, and River) were annoying little ****bags. Did not care for the movie though, completely missed what made the show good.
Have you watched Battlestar Galactica? It is kinda slow so you might not be a fan though.
I'm about to get caught up on the new season of Mr. Robot but i'm dragging my feet simply because season 1 was so perfect I dont want them to ruin it.

just watched through it as well. I liked it a lot, even though it left me with a few unanswered questions. Still a very well made show, all the characters were likeable (except the black kid who was always an ******* to everyone) and the plot progression was handled very well. I am thinking next season they get rid of all the cast except the cop and put him in a new small town, make him a specialist.

Also finished up watching Preacher, the last episode was so ****ing good. I would highly recommend anyone who hasn't watched it or thinking about it, do it. Preacher is going to be one of those shows people talk about after it's over, and with all the positive reviews and great possibilities I would bet it's coming back for another season.

Mr Robot season 2 finale was last night. Strange season, took a while to get going, but it had some fantastic moments in it. Ending was good and makes me want more next season.

I've heard that it was pretentious. Did you find that so? I was disappointed severely by the finale of the first season.

Watching Parks and Recreation for the 3rd time...I can never get enough of that show. It's hilarious.
It's a great show that I find myself coming back to every year or two. I'm on the last season and I don't want it to end :(Watching Parks and Recreation for the 3rd time...I can never get enough of that show. It's hilarious.
I'm watching it for the third time as well actually. But in small bits and pieces here and there.

I started Mad Men a couple of weeks ago and i'm up to season 3 so far. It's great.
Also slowly getting through season 5 of House of Cards
Started watching The Good Wife because I wanted something that there were loads of episodes of that's sort of undemanding. It's not great by any means but fulfills its function.
Halt & Catch Fire is back and brilliant as ever. Two week wait between episode 3 and 4 is making me itch. Mad Men is my favourite show of all time and while this isn't quite as good it compliments things quite well focussing more of the business and female characters instead of male antihero formula. Plus with all the old computers, keyboards and sets It's something any geekhack user would enjoy.
Still have an episode or two left of Preacher. It's consistently decent but I'm finding it hard to get that excited about.
I'm on S01E10 of The Good Wife and now I think I can definitely recommend it. Were you tried as a juvenile by any chance tp?

I read if a wh00ight guy doesn't watch black panther and like it, it's cuz he's Racist/ Insecure or Both..
I quite like the way black people look.. The only thing I find objectionable would be the difficulty in getting different hairstyles..
Hhahahaahhahahahahahahaa
I see you have Scientific Method, I have Scientific Method too.
Watching The Expanse S3 on Google Play season pass (RIP future seasons until Netflix or similar picks it back up hopefully!)
Just finished binging the modern series reboot of Lost In Space (main antagonist is absolutely despicable, almost gets in the way of enjoying the rest of the show because you end up hating them so much).
Silicon Valley also in progress, further cementing my love of (almost) everything Mike Judge has done (We basically live in the world of Idiocracy :( )
Westworld is on deck, but haven't broken into it yet. Lots of stuff in Netflix queue that I keep adding more to, faster than I can watch.
For those who are loving Halt and Catch Fire for the retro/grittiness, I highly recommend The Americans - SO GOOD.
Not enough minerals.

I don't know, UHF is pretty hard to top as far as movies go. I mean Weird Al Yankovic eats twinkie bunned hotdogs, and a young Cosmo Kramer is Seinfeld goofy +1000 (he's in love with a mop and more) :)

But We really need SHF for UHD Blurays.

What color are we going to make our Meth xondat..
I'm thinking Clear , with diffused Crimson.
been watching so much the last few months I cannot even keep track of all the shows.
Rewatched, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Eric Andre Show, Monk, Preacher, River Monsters and a bunch of other series the last few months all the way through. Luke Cage s.2 on NF and The Tick on Amazon
Tried getting into The Punisher and American Horror Story, but just couldn't. I watched the Asylum season of AHS which was great, then tried to get into every other season which all wound up being slow and boring af.
Also finished up Westworld s.2, and Deloras is probably one of my least favorite characters ever. Everything she does is hypocritical.
Better Call Saul is one of the best shows airing right now.

On the last episode of breaking bad. This show is next in my queue.
Star Trek Enterprise. It's _ok_. The tune for the opening credits threw me for a loop when I first started to watch it. Though, after the first few episodes I come to expect it.
Quantum Leap**100
Gonna try Babylon 5 eventually

This week I was going to attempt to finally get around to booting up Fusion360 and piss around with keyboard designing but instead I decided to finally get around to watching the new Twin Peaks. I've watched the first episode. It's weird and I like it.

I'm 3 episodes into the Netflix series Maniac. I'm still not sure what to think about it.
I'm not sure if I can recommend it or tell people to avoid it at this point. It visually looks great, and the acting seems strong, but I'm not so sure on the writing.

Not sure about the females part as I'm not one but yes it is misogynistic but that is just one aspect of the show. The show portrays many of the issues in the U.S. during the 60's.

The seasons set in the early-mid 1960s were excellent. They spent too much time on the late-1960s and too little in the earlier era.
The show really burned out as it ground to an end, in my opinion.
Then that ending
Then that ending
I asked my wife to explain it to me. I hope she was wrong.
OK, my turn...
I just started watching Love, Death & Robots.
This is good:) TP4 - you gonna like it:)
Guys, if you didn't see it, try it!
Finally got around to watching season 1 of Discovery.
Good but different. Definitely emits a from a comic book vibe. It's a shame that the tech continuity is a hot mess.
If I was to describe it I'd say someone meshed the best aspects of the original series with The Expanse, and perhaps a mild sprinkling of late 90's scifi channel.

Tp4 couldn't watch xfiles back then, didn't speka englash..
When y'all say it still holds up , is that like an OG TOS startrek feeling holds up, or does it ACTUALLY hold up like TNG..
TNG should become primary liberal studies K-12, Everything you need to know to be a human being.
It holds up in that the stories and effects still work. The show's content rarely feels dated, even though it's set in the '90s.
Hrrrm... Skully has more of a GND look , vs traditionally gorgeous.
Does the show ever fully explain why mulder/scully is allowed to continue - doing- what they do, because it seems like if the parent office wants things Covered, why let your other employees keep digging stuff up. ?
The Smoking Man appears in the very first episode when Scully is being interview for the job...

That's on my list to watch, but I keep putting it off because it looks so depressing.
Chernobyl, this is the series you need to watch. Damn, HBO has nailed this time.
The only bit I found disappointing is that Ulana Khomyuk is a made up character. But understood why they did it. Very well done TV show though. Here's to hoping Fukushima do one!

Season two is a steady decline into ****. S1 was pretty good, then in S2 they just decided to make Dolores the most nonsense, unlikeable, hypocritical character ever written.
There are some great ideas in Westworld, but the writing isn't as tightly written or revelatory. I can see what they're going for, but the "oomph" isn't there.

Season 1 is lackluster. Nothing happens for the first five episodes.
I can't even imagine how empty the Season 2 is then.
I've finished the first season. It was a weird sense of accomplishment. Not as strong as when I sat through The Lady In The Van, but still.

I finished "The Boys" a couple days ago; for as gory as it is, it's a refreshing take on Superheros, I was getting pretty tired of all the cookie cutter happy meal marvel films. Haven't caught up on "Peaky Blinders", it's okay. Like most series similar to it, it's interesting and novel in the first 1 or 2 seasons; then due to the characters' successes their future plights become mundane when they reach a certain scale.

anyone else watch its always sunny in philly
Been putting off watching The Boys because the trailers made it look terrible and cheesy, but it's actually kinda good. Binged the first 6 in two days, and am finishing it up tonight. Karl Urban is like the love child of Colin Farrell and Hugh Jackman, and the other dude is like a bootleg Bill Hader.
Good show, would recommend.
I think a lot of people are mad because it deviates greatly from the comic books plot. Probably the very same people who have never read the comic or heard of The Boys before the show.

I believe the motivation was something that was time triggered by a thing (no spoilers :p).It did feel like it could have used a bit more fleshing out in places.
Yeah, I think too it was triggered with time.
I watched it with my missus - at beginning she asked
"what are we watching? Is this superman?"
"No. Its called Brightburn".
After an hour:
" is this really not Superman?"
"No. He kills people."
"So, its like bad superman?"
I am shocked Preacher made it to 4 seasons. Love the show and am sad this is gonna be the final season since there's so much more to cover.Been pondering if it's worth buying on Amazon...
Also finishing up Stranger Things S3, I like it much more than S2 but not as much as S1.

"Well, dip me in honey and throw me to the lesbians!" ^_^
It's pretty faithful to the comics in terms of story beats, for the most part. I've read the comics but idk what you're talking about.
Brightburn looks very warm.. probably used alexa.. not sure if it's 4K di..
HDR pushes 1000nit, so the eye lasers look really good.
Some scenes using day to night luts look really fake, buh forgivable..
Overall, good prelude to what will probably be a Tv show. ??

I saw that pop up this past weekend on Netflix, and decided to give it a shot since it's so highly regarded. Really enjoyed what I saw, but wasn't quite in the right mood at the time so I'll be coming back to it.

Not a fan of Max Headroom's lines regarding China and Chinese citizens (wtf was that about?). The premise of the show must have been a mind bender for some during the 80s.. holy moly. As for Neon Genesis Evangelion.. reached ep22.. can confirm that I'll finish the series and keep it at that. More awkward (for me) than River's introduction scene in the Firefly. Although, the Bandai Evangelion-01 Test Type Action Figure is pretty dang awesome regardless.

You need to watch the final film. I feel like the series didn't really end until End of Evangelion.
Also, yeah; the Bandai Tamashii Robot Spirits Eva 01 got me into Japanese figures hard. Thankfully I've since got out of that plastic-crack hobby.
The wife wanted to watch "Leaving Neverland"
I had no idea what a true freak Michael Jackson really was.
I look forward to the time when people reserve judgement and opinion on various subjects until after they have seen/read/studied/experienced them in full.
Informed opinions are quite valuable, while uniformed speculation is often worse than worthless.
Yeah I watched it back in the day as well. I me it through about the episodes this time. It's looks a lot older than I remember. It's a time for show for now when there's nothing else to watch.24 S01E01
The first couple of seasons were really good. I hung in for about 4 or 5 but it was just the same thing piled higher and deeper.
I mostly watch shows from the old adult swim lineup nowadays, stuff like Sealab 2021 and Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
Additionally, I watch some shows from the old MTV lineup or similar (such as Beavis & Butthead or Daria), but it's not often.
I'm so happy that AS added nearly every episode of every show for free recently. Too bad their video player sucks.

I just finished Parasyte. Short yet amazing anime series. The best anime series I watched after Death Note.
Been rewatching 30 Rock. What a great show, really solid joke writing that holds up and an underrated show. Guess it was overshadowed by The Office and Parks and Rec at the time it was airing.

30 Rock with Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey, not the one with John Lithghow and Jason Gordon Levitt
Aaah, ok, got it:)
I just watched first 4 episodes of Witcher.
Very nice. I read books like 3 times, played the game couple of times as well - show isn't exactly like in the books, but I like it.
Actors are a bit weird plus they jumping around with actual story timeline, but its very nice to watch it. :thumb:

What score would you give Witcher.
the **** you on about Firefly more than 99 out of 10.
RIP Firefly, #neverforeget

Pretty good. Getting a bit dull in the second season, but overall such a gripping show.

Do you like what you've seen? Then it's more or less of the same quality. Usually there's a recap at the start of each season so unless you're particular about the details rewatching is not necessary.

I agree. The quality of seasons 4 and so far 5 are just as high as the first three.
Check out "Man of Recaps" on Youtube. He does a very thorough recap of each season in ~7 minutes per season - way better than the "official" recaps I've seen.
Castlevania Season 3 drops today, time to whip it.

Ozark season 3... FINALLY.
The first season was excellent, but, like most "intense adult drama" shows it eroded after the first season. Once the initial story arc is exhausted (often with the death of the principal bad guy and/or the collapse of the evil organization) then the next iteration is almost certain to seem contrived.
In my opinion, this type of show is good as long as it is plot-driven, which is usually only a season or 2. After that, if it is successful, in my opinion, the actors and/or their agents start demanding that the plots be character-driven (showcasing their characters, of course), which almost always sends the quality downhill. Plots are far more important than characters, to me anyway.
There are exceptions (6 Feet Under comes to mind) but in my opinion it is extremely rare for a show to get into the 3rd-4th+ seasons at the same quality level it started at.
Ozark season 3... FINALLY.
ozark, it gud' show ?
Ozark was boring as hell even in the first season.
I'll watch Ozark. I just read two psych articles that my psych teacher posted about how it is okay to not feel very motivated during a global pandemic. She basically said I can screw around.

U haz a psych teacher ?
Yeah. The moment Destiny passed I decided to move back to my parents' house and start all over. I'm going to school with the intent of being a child therapist. It isn't easy going back nearly 2 decades later.
I'm watching Friday Night Lights for the first time because I keep hearing it recommended in best TV show lists.
So far I think it's fine but I'm feeling mildly bored of all the teen romance subplots. The pacing is a little slow. Despite knowing absolutely nothing about American football I'm enjoying the sports bits a lot more. Just about finished Season 1.
I really love Better Call Saul which is strange cos I was sort of lukewarm on Breaking Bad, particularly in the later seasons.

If anything Jeff set him up.Jeff wasn't in the picture when her husband disappeared, she had already remarried by then (it took 2 years to declare him dead).
As for the idea of Jeff setting up Joe, the zoo was in Jeff's name, all he had to do was fire him.
The real question is Marc Thompson, who Joe first asked to do it. Thompson was an ex-cop working as a security guard and may have already been working undercover at that point due to so many credible threats made against Carole by Joe over the years. Did the feds ask Jeff to bring him in as part of a plea bargain? We know Joe did try to hire an undercover FBI agent, it may have been him or it could be someone else. Hard to say.
I think proving it was entrapment or even a setup would be difficult, this was Joe asking him to kill someone directly.
So your fem-radar is not detecting anything unusual/sinister about Carole Baskins.Oh, she's wackadoodle.
In ur opinion, what are the signs of a female capable of mariticide (husband murdar)
Oh, she's wackadoodle.
Maybe she did, maybe she didn't there's just too many other ways for him to disappear to be sure.
Regardless, I certainly do not think she fed him to a tiger, that's just stupid and lazy speculation. What happens if someone notices before the body is gone or something is left behind?
I just re-watched Blade Runner for the first time in at least a decade.
It truly is one of the greatest films of all time, but how do they explain it raining all the time in LA?
Maybe I have a hard time seeing the subtleties of the plot through the atmosphere.
Just watched Dark Waters.
Interesting subject, good movie, recommended.
Tomorrow I'm throwing away all my teflon pans...
There was a documentary about this a few years ago (Possibly The Devil We Know (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Devil_We_Know)), this sounds like a movie version of it (working to see it now).Just watched Dark Waters.

Where's Chyros.
Just watched Dark Waters.Could be shrunk by half an hour without losing anything.

We just finished watching the Tiger King as well.
Besides the unhinged nature of all of the main ’characters’ and the menagerie of misfits and criminals in tow, it was a well constructed train wreck.
My wife and I nearly wet ourselves when Joe Exotic said “I would like to introduce my wife, but he is at home feeding our brand new baby kangaroo”.
Yes. Maybe it needs the subtitle “How to keep your husband enslaved “We just finished watching the Tiger King as well.

Recommended Tiger Kong to my dad who watched the first episode and hated it.
Been blazing through the seasons of Fargo, already halfway done with s03. I do think the first season was the best, the other two hinge on people doing really really dumb things. Apparently they are all based upon true stories so I dunno.

This is one of the best tv shows on my list. I loved it. Loved the story, music, characters, editing.
Have you seen the movie? Its good to see it too, as first season is based on its story.
Trying to get through all dat Star Wars, some of these movies are quite boring.

Watchn' the whole series on the latest 4K discs, Everyone's still disappointed in the prequels, low res CGI + heavy degrain/denoise algorithms kill detail..
Ahhh, yup. Makes sense. What order are you watching in? Chronological, episodic, machete?
Did Lucas muck things up further in the 4k release, or have things stayed mostly the same since the Blu-ray release?

I'mma watch it once in release order, and once in chronological.
Things are mostly the same from the Blu-ray, they've been re-colorized, so the tone is much more natural looking vs the old jazzed-up colors on the blurays.
The plot/cgi/cutting is the same as lucas's bray rework.
Right now watching Sponge Bob w/ my 5yr old son
One episode into Devs. All the characters perfectly embody the self-important castrated and sheltered robotic pricks I hate in the tech industry. So they got that part right, although it doesn't do much for making me feel anything but disdain for all of them.Looks like an interesting series. Might have to give that a go later on.
ahh, it's getting better by the 2nd ep

well that last episode was dumb as ****. If I gave you a gun and said you are about to shoot yourself, would you do it? No, right? I could barely get through that drivel. The entire theme is so defeatist it's annoying.

I'm finding the deterministic model as presented in this show flawed given what you've detailed above. While there is a certain amount of mystery as to what happens if somebody "jumps off the tram
after seeing the future, I have no idea why that character did what they did. Having said that, Allison Pill's character is a monster and I am enjoying watching that.
Now it looks a bit weird,
Now it looks a bit weird,
All of the original crop of Saturday Night Live TV and spin-off movies are kind of painful to watch now.
They were all written by writers who were stoned into near incoherence and played by actors who were wasted at levels that would put elephants into comas. Consequently many of the routines were so stupid that you just had to cringe through them, and wait for those occasional gems that were genuinely hilarious.
That was how I felt decades ago when I watched them when they were new (Dan Aykroyd is 2 weeks younger than me). Today, the vapid parts are even more excruciating, but the funny parts are still funny.

I would call Mike Meyers something like 3rd generation SNL and Wayne's World was far more self-aware than the early stuff.
Bill Murray brought in a very different vibe when he more or less replaced Chevy Chase, and most of what he is involved in holds up better.
As far as those road-race movies go, Gumball Rally was the first and, in my opinion, the standard-bearer.
(if you want white knuckles rather than laughs, give Vanishing Point a spin)
Someone sell me on Ozark, I'm right on the fence if I wanna watch it or not.
Carole killed husband
because we watched Picard.

Everything about it sucked but to have a colossal fleet just materialize on seconds/minutes/hours of notice was absolutely too much.
Wyfe and I binged "I Am Not Okay With This" on Netflix. It is like "Stranger Things" with more angst, cursing and weed.

Right now I could use less angst and more weed (even though I haven't touched the **** in 20 years).
They have warp engines. and they're not very far away
So, even though it took days for the Romulans to get there, Riker, after Picard left the mountain cabin, got his commission activated, convinced Starfleet to do a complete 180 on ironclad policies that had been in place for years, AND get hundreds of the top tier warships to the hidden planet.
All of that in <48 hours? I don't think so.
the technical base to achieve it is there.
So, the Federation can do in hours what takes days for Romulans?
And those 2 dozen wimpy orchids held off an order of magnitude more star ships?
And Soji's (and all her ilk) instantaneous reversal at the last second was plausible? The whole thing just didn't pass the smell test.
tp4, you ok? Your text is so pale all of a sudden :DSo, the Federation can do in hours what takes days for Romulans?Yes, it's possible, because we don't know where the ships were pulled from or how fast they can go, but we do know they're very fast.

6 episodes, I don't like this.. they can't expand the front like this. it's gonna fold.
Just finished Fargo S2,
S1 was great, S2 was slow to start but was strong by the end. Loved the office job twist.

I'm still slogging through Westworld. While I am finding it interesting in some ways, I'm just not as happy with S3 as previous seasons. Part of that may be that the story telling model is much more linear than in previous seasons, and part of it is that I'm not finding the writing compelling enough for me to care. Mauve vs. Dolores{x} vs Serac vs. Bernard/Stubbs is a bit much, and I find myself forgetting why factions are aligned the way they are. /shrug
Having said all that, S03E07 was a very good episode for Caleb (the Aaron Paul character).
Just finished Homeland. The resolution was twisted and unsatisfying, but so was everything else in the show. The last season/story arc was better than some of the middle seasons, where it seemed kind of forced, but I will have to think about it for a while.
Overall, a very good and suspenseful show but always implausible and frustrating at the same time.
Is the series over now?
I recently gave Ozark another shot after the release of Season 3, and I am 100% in. About to finish up Season 1, then continue binging through the remainder.
everything wraps up or leads to a cliffhanger in 23 or 45 minutes
Isn't it weird that we consciously and deliberately watch multiple episodes of a TV show in a row (binge), but, we consider movies over 2 or 2.5 hours really long (some might say they "drag on" or are "boring")?Built in stopping points.
Is it the choice of continuing that makes bingeing (retaining the e in the gerund is weird, but distinguishes it from using the search engine Bing!) episodes enjoyable, or is it the way episodes of TV are written versus a movie (everything wraps up or leads to a cliffhanger in 23 or 45 minutes, exposition/backstory was done in previous episodes, etc.)?
Finished up season 3 of Westworld. A lot of wasted potential, and boy did they do Mauve and Bernard dirty.

**** was horrible compared to season 1 and 2. Waste of my time.

You don't mind waiting to see the next segment, but a movie is often one long continuous chunk. Many actually do have points for breaks but you don't know where they are until you already pass them.

Yea, it didn't mmm... this is the problem with retaining actors these days, everyone wants the $$, actors don't really deserve it, the show suffers.
I didnt see S3 problems being with the acting. In fact, given the tripe they were given for script, they did pretty well.
No, I would put the S3 ****show directly on the show runners. S3 was an uninteresting linear story with major characters not being given anything to do. Bernard spent most of the season wandering around, and his payoff in the last episode was unsatisfying. And Mauve was portrayed as uncharacteristically weak and dumb.
This season delved into predictive and deterministic behavior. Devs did it better.

I'm refering to the -Compression- they have to do in production.
The script is fine, but it felt very tight and they didn't have the space to flesh out the story.
The actors demand too much compensation, which forces cuts everywhere else.
Just watched The Hudsucker Proxy.
I really really enjoyed this movie, it's humor was right up my alley. An early Coen Bros film starring Tim Robbins as a seemingly dimwitted and unlucky guy and Paul Newman as a fantastic characterized business exec. Great support cast all-around, incredible writing, genuinely funny throughout. Can't believe I've never seen or even heard of this film. I'll need to give it a second viewing sometime in the future, but right now it's leaving a very favorable impression.

It ended really abruptly without tying up a ton of loose series ends, or tying them up very messily. The last episode felt like an "Oh ****, they canceled us we need to do a final episode that concludes everything with half our usual budget and time"
I tried watching silicon valley a few times, I just couldn't get into it because the characters were so obnoxious.

The first couple seasons are fantastic though. It kinda fell apart when TJ Miller went crazy and left the show, he was kinda the wild card holding it all together for me.

Schitt's Creek is something I just started. I love how much it throws the stereotype of rich white-bread world-dwellers under the bus for the benefit of finding a hilarious baseline of suburban and satisfaction in life through doing good for comparison.
The last 2-3 episodes of Silicon Valley are not great with the last one being terrible.
Watched the entirety of Mandalorian in two evenings. All episodes but the last one are very good.

Yes, had the same experience with SV unfortunately, I really like the show otherwise, the humor is on point!

Mando was surprisingly good. I knew it was gonna be extravagant at $20 million an episode, but well acted and written too? It's the best new Star Wars content in like 20 years (I haven't seen Clone Wars, shaddup)
Word on the streets is Boba Tea is making an appearance in s02
I think it's the best Star Wars content since the original series. And it doesn't even have much to do with Star Wars. Could be set in Abbasid Caliphate and be just as good. The last 2-3 episodes of Silicon Valley are not great with the last one being terrible.
Watched the entirety of Mandalorian in two evenings. All episodes but the last one are very good.
Mando was surprisingly good. I knew it was gonna be extravagant at $20 million an episode, but well acted and written too? It's the best new Star Wars content in like 20 years (I haven't seen Clone Wars, shaddup)
Season 1
Nobody watched The Last Dance?
Probably the best sports documentary ever produced.

Wow, that's not saying much.
I started, didn't even get 10 minutes, checked a few notes on it and noped out. I watched the movie, I don't need to see a slow moving series about a slow moving trainwreck.
Pretty sure the movie was rated a LOT lower in the past.

I finished it a couple weeks ago. It's the kind of show that made me sad when it ended, but I was glad that it wasn't dragged out and actually had a satisfying conclusion. One of my favorite shows of late.
Started watching The Last Dance. A Netflix show that you can't watch on Netflix apparently.

Thanks for the pointer - great show! Interesting study of personalities, my favorite is Rodman obviously, and good to see the classics again, like Pip, Bird... And I find Carmen Electra to be very personable

They discuss some of that towards the end, kind of appropriate considering what's going on.Our history books in school have done a terrible job representing him (much of it on purpose).I will look for it. I have read at least one book on him, and several on Reconstruction. That "unfinished revolution" as Eric Foner calls it, is haunting us relentlessly to this day.

It's amazing the people they got for interviews in that show. The best moment imo is when they showed MJ the video of Phil Jackson saying they offered him another year and he turned it down. You could tell MJ didn't know, and I really do believe he was robbed of at least 1-2 more peak seasons.

I must be the only person who is actually enjoying Space Force. Yeah, it's not perfect, but it's really not as terrible IMO as people are making it out to be.

Had to rewatch Chernobyl.
There's a companion podcast (on Youtube), that adds so much more detail and more side information, I got two episodes in and realized I really needed a fresh viewing to get the most from it.

There was a phrase show, your going to "humiliate a nation that is obsessed with not being humiliated". This was the biggest screw up ever in the history of mankind, it drained them of money and resources. Can you imagine the KGB not being there? So why would he say they weren't? The KGB may be gone but the agents are not, Putin was trained by them. To you the U.S.S.R. is long dead but not to them.oh here we go
There are many "What are you...?" threads, but I don't think I've seen one about what's currently got you hooked to the tube (or flat screen). Can be any show, film, cartoon, anime, miniseries, etc.
I have a short attention span these days, so stuff like movies even takes a few sittings to finish.
Currently I'm rewatching Seven Samurai, this time on Blu-ray.Show Image(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160206/7adfd3267f65d9701ace7ca8c7020e4c.jpg)
The last time I saw this was 15 years ago. Before that, I didn't know what distinguished a good film from a bad one. I thought all movies were just movies. This changed everything.
I suddenly realized what defined a "good" movie, and what defined amazing acting.
Also rewatching Tales from the Crypt. Don't know why I was watching that when I was five or six way back when.
PS
No spoilers, please. :)
Watched Dark, first season.
At some point I wanted to pull out some sheet of paper and a pen to write down who is who....
For some reason I could not memorise all characters and it was a bit hard to connect them with their past equivalents.
Anyway, starting season 2 today :)
Currently plowing through Babylon 5
It's.. Interesting.
The stories aren't bad, but the costumes and effects absolutely scream budget 80s.

Finished second season and started third.
Second was still ok, more weird connections etc, don't want to spoil it to anyone.
Third one - feels like they only altered it abit and playing same thing from first season - I hope it will change during, as it would be silly just to make "mirror" season to first one.
Happy! - 7.5/10. Only 2 seasons and cancelled (hopefully picked up by another network). Very, very strange/weird. But really enjoyed it - some great dialogue and fight scenes.I've watched some of it, it's certainly different. Well done though.

For the first time on both of those or rewatching? Either way, you're in for a treat ^_^
The Battlestar Galactica reboot was spectacular, without a doubt the best "re-" that has ever been produced.
I don't think that the quality remained consistent, from the time that they landed on the planet it never quite returned to its initial excellence.
First time for both. I was instantly engrossed in BSG. I started with the two-part and now I'm a few episodes into the show.

Darn, you’re making me want to re-watch it now, hehe. I’m half way through the second season of a re-watch of Fringe at the moment. Maybe I’ll add it to the list after that. I’ve nothing but time when it comes to watching stuff at the moment.

I thought that whatever "mysticism" was in there was mostly mashed up with a kind of "hive mind" process that became more apparent as it went on, but yes, any sort of magic is a cheap plot cop-out.
PS - Fohat HATES TP4s stupid ignorant deliberate mis-spellings.
Has anyone watched 'Wanted'? Netflix just recommended it to me and I see it's 7.7 on IMDb, which is quite a good sign.
Rewatching The Madolorian. Somehow it's even better the second viewing. Those Western and Tribal vibes suit the show so well and the cinematography is fantastic. Great soundtrack too.

This is one series I'd love to see in full 4k hdr. It's shot so beautifully.
Watched the new Bill And Ted, it was fun, but odd.
They seemed to struggle with staying true to the original and yet current.
Robin's Wish

Just started Long Way Up
If you've never seen any of the Long Way series and you like travel stuff, check these out. The series portrays a heavy motorcycle theme which does domninate the first episode of each series but the bikes actually fade into the background really fast after the first episode. The scenes in Mongolia and Russia in Long Way Round were flat out amazing.
In Long Way Up Ewan McGreggor and Charlie Bormann are trying to ride electric motorcycles from the tip of South America up to California and I'm curious to see how they deal with the Darien Gap (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dari%C3%A9n_Gap).
Still haven't watched it, gonna wait 3 more weeks then watch the whole thing.

It's the greatest show EVER.
Let's say Rickn'Morty is 1x.
Outlaw Star = 15x
C-Bebop = 17x
Startrek TNG = 20x
Firefly = 999^999x
Firefly's greatness was not at all intentional, it just HAPPENED that way. You could tell from the setup, the plot, the budget, if it were ANYONE ELSE besides that set of actors, the show would be ****..
I highly doubt it could be replicated without God's ordained character chemistry.
Just watched Underwater. I liked, nice horror/ci-fi.

Oh certainly, in my opinion it has aged extraordinarily well.
But it is imperative that it be judged in perspective of its time and place, and recognize that it never took itself too seriously.

It's watchable given Context, an old show, old format. It's very slow and the acting was very nonchalant.
In general you have to have alot of patience to get through it if you're used to modern show pacing.
I don't consider it critical viewing for non-hardcore Trek fans.
TNG, DS9 are the 2 primary.
even if it did make for good TV.
Watched The Social Dilemma on Netflicks
If you haven't watch it, I'd highly suggest it, they really need to put this up for free for everyone to watch.
I try and keep up where this tech is going and even I was a bit shocked how far things have gone.

Bah..knew it, the actress was killed off because she's too old. 29yrs old. The two other main leads are only 22 / 24 ..i am the only one who is mostly age agnostic? i often do have trouble giving an age, especially to women, between 20ish to 35ish looks the same age to me... pretty annoying, although some find it flattering :)

well i know that mostly on video/photo/film it is useless to even try to guess an age, i was talking IRL. although given your aversion for the outside, you may not be seeing too many peoples IRL :) i may need to take more attention to wrinkles, so to be sure not to date a 40 years old by mistake :)
visually we're mostly recognizing age by the wrinkles. So AFK , with cosmetics, online/digital with Adob.

LOLOL. I don't think there are that many 40yr old women still dating. By that point, they'd have just picked a lane and rolled it.If you truly believe that, NEVER go work at a retirement home.
Retirement homes are a special case though, widows are back in the dating pool not from their own volition. but at work i had 3 40+ years old try to hit on me sooo, they exist yeah, and being 25 i politely declined, not that i would only date my age but a 15 years gap may be a bit large, 5 years older seems like the sweet spot (maybe a bit TMI, sorry)LOLOL. 10 years at 50 is not the same at 10 years at 20.
Mandalorian s02 first episode was really fun. TONS of long-awaited fanservice. Finally making Krait Dragons visual cannon(although I prefer the plesiosaur look over the snake one) they even had a pearl at the end. Without spoilers we see the 'return' of a huge fan fav character, and they use their weapon in a manner that would please long-time fans as well. Lots of things being made cannon and coming to fruition here, deep lore stuff, sandwiched in a nicely contained episode. I much prefer the short story format over the one-long-season format.
I started watching Star Trek: Picard. It's not bad so far, but it doesn't feel like Star Trek; the technology feels like generic sci-fi, the cinematography seems like a tryhard action movie, and there's SWEARING?! I don't mind profanity at all, but it feels really out of place in Star Trek for some reason. Edit: (Apparently, this has been a debated topic about Discovery and Picard that was I was not aware of until I just googled it. I guess I'm part of the "prude, pearl-clutching" fan-base).
the other company owns pretty much everything else including the franchise name
Picard is about as close to a reboot or continuation as you will ever get

everything bad is outside.
what about black mold and house centipedes?
Struggled through two episodes of Schitts Creek cos everybody seems to be talking about it. Don't think it's funny at all.Yeah, it's pretty ****.
Wonder Woman '84 was so bad I got up and walked right out of my house.
My housemate is making me watch Letterkenny. I really don't find it very funny, and the scenes with the hockey players are just downright insufferable. Some of it could be funny, but I think I have to devote so much focus on understanding their accents and fast speech that I can't focus on the jokes, and missing a few words here and there probably doesn't help.I don't think that show was meant for an audience outside Canada when it started so don't feel bad.
it's a big show, there is character development.
If your people were enslaved in work camps, you'd be kinda snippy too.
The first season of DS9 is not quite representative of the whole series, but your impressions are fairly accurate. I don't think characters necessarily have to be liked in the sense they are admirable; they can be liked because they are realistic and/or interesting. Kira's character, as well as basically all Bajorans, is defiant and views the Federation as a necessary evil to prevent the Cardassians from coming right back and occupying Bajor again, so she isn't always agreeable. I like that DS9 puts the Star Trek ideals to test by forcing different groups to abide together for a long period rather than during short skirmishes or excursions. Kira may have personal problems but her reasons for them are at least understandable. Plus, the term terrorist depends on which side you're on; her people were enslaved and brutalized, so they were terrorists to the Cardassians but freedom fighters/irregulars/guerillas/militia to the Bajorans. Given what we're presented with in the show, I am inclined to side with the Bajorans even though I don't like them much.
I do understand why it doesn't quite scratch the Star Trek itch though. It's a different type of show, and it does drag on at the end IMO.
But you really should keep watching to see the development of Garek. He's the best character. The Ferengi characters are entertaining as well, albeit silly.
Watched the first series of The Expanse. It's pretty good. Second series is a bit slow to get moving.
It's succeeding in scratching the sci fi itch I had that the disastrous Discovery and Picard couldn't. Those shows are so bad they make me angry.
Watching the entire King Of The Hill series. Hated this show as a kid, but now I find it hilarious.

I just watched All Out Attack and Final Wars. Really fun movies, I love this era of Godzilla where he's the big villain instead of the anti-hero and everything has that Power Rangers vibe to it.
I've gotta recommend "Made In Abyss" on Amazon Prime.
Whether or not you like Anime there's a lot to like here: incredible adventure story.
I strongly recommend Japanese audio and English subtitles (I can't remember if they even have English audio - maybe not).
I'd recommend Japanese audio for ANY anime, though, not just this one. Because:
1. An average Japanese voice actor performing with a Japanese script is a million times more interesting to hear than the GREATEST english-speaking actor reading off of a TRANSLATION. Much is lost in the process.
2. Expression is more than about just the words spoken: when the Japanese actors are speaking you can hear the body language.

I stumbled upon Final Space last night, already done with season one..
It's sort of Futurama meets Firefly.

I think I'm getting old, cause those silly movies don't entertain me so much.
Been watching Big Fat Quiz. It can get a bit British at times, and occasionally I can;t even understand some of the guests, but it's fun to have on in the background.
I love David Mitchell and Richard Ayoade.
Just finished Resident Alien

Been way better health-wise since they removed the tumor, but the bill put me in an even deeper financial hole. I don't get random fevers or feel tired all the time. But having to recover those 2 months with a split-open incision they could not sew back up was inconvenient, to put it mildly. All the walking everywhere while I was supposed to be taking it easy did not help :))
The film really seemed like groundwork for a franchise, building up lore and giving nods to the MK universe.I actually would not mind that at all. A franchise could be pretty cool. If they don't go completely off the rails.
Just watched Mortal Kombat and I thought it was fun for what it was. They did a good job with a girth of material and a limited budget bringing scope to something that was shot in a focused way. The film really seemed like groundwork for a franchise

I don't think they got their money's worth on $50 million.
They'd have to get much better writers for another one. Problem right now is probably none of the actors were memorable enough that people'd care to see them again.
The only real problem I had with MK is that when I think of Mortal Kombat, I think of the in-lore tournament that decides the fate of literal worlds, and iirc there wasn't even anything hinting at that in the movie, but that's more of a nitpick of me expecting them to first cater to people who played the games over the general audience. But to be fair, I was going in with an, admittedly, over-critical eye after the travesty that was the Monster Hunter movie.
We're at a point where it's getting too expensive to include plot.
Rewatching Heat with De Niro and Pacino for 4th time... xdIt's worth a 5th as well.
Just re-watched Breaking Bad from the start again. Such a great series, better than just about anything else made before or since. I urge anyone who as not watched it (is there anyone?) to make sure you do, you won't regret it.
Started watching the new MODOK series from HULU, it's a good take on a villain from a comedic perspective. Also love that Patton Oswalt is voicing MODOK - fits perfectly.
I'm tired of the "world sucks" stuff in general

As has been borne out by many studies, multi-tasking is "worse than a lie" as one of my instructors in an efficiency class loved to say.

Tp4 is also up to 6000 movies now. 1000 of which in the last year.

Handmaids any good beyond season 2 ? Kind of lost traction for me at the end there.

Yeah, well made, but not scary - but then, do they really scare you when you're an adult?
I remember scary horror movies when I was a kid (Re-animator, Deadly Friend) - but once I've grown up, I can't find a single scary horror movie, its all either jump scary scenes, or just effects that are more funny than scary.
Well, I felt a bit of chills when watching The Others in the cinema, when I was 21yo, but not scary...
America's Next Top Cuckold
and Ugly Americans. Underrated animated comedy.
s01e14 of Ugly Americans, The Manbirds, was genuinely the hardest I laughed in a long time. Great episode :thumb:
Im watching six days seven nights
Watched Falling Down with Michael Douglas. I found myself commiserating with and rooting for him nearly the entire way. I totally get that numbness and societal separation the main character was feeling, but the movie did a good job pacing his 'decline.' By the end it became clear he may have had some issues. The cop parts I could have done without, the one younger guy who was partners with the lady annoyed the hell out of me every second he was on screen but that was clearly intentional. It reminded me of a Bobcat Goldthwait directed film in many ways. Worth a watch if you've never seen it before.

I've seen it maybe 3-4 months ago - I had same feelings like you. Sometimes I'm worried that in 10-20 years I go out on streets and gonna start killing people, as they piss me off with their stupidity so much...
Anyway, good movie - I have been recently (last 2 years) downloading and re-watching all old movies, like from 80s onwards. This was one of them, I enjoyed it, those old movies have something in them, that feels better, more real, than movies nowadays.

If you liked that I'd highly recommend God Bless America, it does what this movie did but I think a bit better.
Talented Mr Ripley. That main character was really annoying at times....
He is really unlikable
Talented Mr Ripley. That main character was really annoying at times....
Agreed. He is really unlikable to the point I wonder if it wasn't even intentional.
Like in Hannibal Rising, they turned Hannibal Lecter into a Hot Topic fedora edgelord spaz who lusted after the big tittied Asian lady. They even gave him a trench coat and katana unironically! I still can't believe that movie exists.
Just watched Bunraku, a heavily stylized cyberpunk samurai western with an anime vibe. I didn't expect much going in, but the distinctive presentation and creative ways they used practical effects got my attention. Then the over the top acting and dialogue won me over. It's weird that people don't talk about this movie more, a truly unique sleeper.Show Image(https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51vocXfw9+L.jpg)

Billions just gets better and better. New Dexter promo before doesn't look horrible.
How is dexter past season 3.

It became more and more forced or contrived as seasons went by but it was still watchable. I hated the finale but it was satisfactory, I suppose.

Everything up to the last 2-3 episodes was fine. This is one of the rare cases where I watched an entire season but the last few episodes were such garbage I didn't even bother to finish. The revenge ninja girl bull**** at the end was just so incredibly dumb, and such a tonal shift. Just trash.
Watching Seinfeld. The cropped version looks bloody awful at times. I get distracted by all the bad framing. Still watching though cos Seinfeld is hard to make unwatchable.
I thought the first season was kind of weak as well but on reappraisal it's not too bad. Season 9 was certainly spotty.

Venom
Watching Yojimbo for roughly the 20th time. Seeing Toshiro Mifune in action never gets old.
It's called suspense
Old 2021, it's alllrighhhtt..... Not as bad as reviews make it out to be.. The plot is impossible, but it's hardly a bad evening.
The pacing on a lot of streaming TV shows is pretty glacial so I wonder if that's the case across the board.I find that this is the case for certain American shows. Some I stopped watching because of this (True Detective, Ozark). Some I didn't (Better Call Saul).
Went to see The Last Duel without any prior knowledge of the plot construction so It was a really pleasant surprise.
There wasn't a ton of action but the action was glorious. Yeah there's a fair bit of jump cutting shakey cam but there's actual weight to the sequences and only little smidges of CGI where absolutely necessary.
Been rewatching Home Movies for the first time in like a decade. Great show, absolutely holds up and is still hilarious. The first 2 seasons are really the top, about halfway through the 3rd it starts to drop off and get silly. Haven't gotten to s04 yet. Really ****in' funny show though.

Oh no, what happened!
Started Dxtr n00blood.
Now, Idk, it's kinda, like... Whyyyy would they be doing this ?
I had a feeling this is going to be the feeling when I watch new episodes - so are they so... pointless?
You don't feel that good old vibe watching it?
To be honest, they way they finished the series, I knew it won't be a point re-animating it in the future.
Dxtr n00blood.
so... pointless?
Anyone watch Wheel Of Time yet?
I wanna watch it, but I also don't wanna get invested in something and get disappointed later.
Hard Boiled, 1992
What an over-the-top ridiculously bonkers movie from start to finish. You think you've just seen one of the craziest action sequences you've ever witnessed, then the very next scene tops it, and it's that pace for like 2 hours. The ending is inordinately extravagant in all its fiery insanity. It's a good.

Anyone watch the Sam Hyde/idubbbz footage/doc? Love or hate Sam, he got 'em pretty good in so many ways. I respect the man for not giving a single ****, and just living however he wants no matter how he is perceived. Truly free.
Watching latest Ozark episodes, so far all good.

glimpsed @ the trailer, how is it vs breaking bad.
Ozark is... different. Darker. It also has incredible climate, atmosphere, but totally different. unique. Plus actual colors are perfect for the story, kinda washed, most of the time scenes are dark, I always watch it at night without any lights. Jason Bateman is in his best, amazing performance, nerves of steel. Of course first seasons are the best, same here.
If you haven't seen it, I would suggest to try it. First season is great, same second.

Assuming your bored_status multiplier of ~1.25x, it's an easy 5.5(base)*1.25 = 6.875
You have to be OK with dramas though, (devil wears prada) type movies.
Finally added Spider-Man:NWH, Studio 666, & The Adam Project to my server. Can't wait to watch them since for once nothing has been spoiled, other than I'm sure the most of The Adam Project was spoiled in the trailers but looks like something at least entertaining to watch. Project 666, I mainly added due to Dave Grohl and want to see how it turns out, even if it's bad as I'm hoping for a it's so bad it's good kind of placement.

Watched Smiling Friends recently. Good show, if a little short, especially if you like Newgrounds humor that has grown in the years since you last used Newgrounds. Makes sense, considering the creators.
Moonshot - crap, watched only first 10 minutes.
Moonfall - ok, nothing special, but in times when there is no good catastrophic movie, it was ok.
Moon Knight - good, will watch whole thing, shame you need to wait a week for next episode.

Watched the first 3 Moon Knight episodes. It's only OK, still not really invested in it 3 episodes deep. Not really liking the main character(s) personalities, the bad guy is boring, nothing particurally interesting aside from the Egyptian God underlying plot.
Just really makes me wish there was a Shadowhawk series or something.

did letterkenny get too NOT_red neck for you guys ? it felt like they were uncanny faking it in later episodes.
Lamb. Jesus, what the hell was that...
Watching shorsey right now, do people really talk like this ?My understanding is that on Letterkenny much of it was real but taken to an extreme, basically as much hockey and small town slang they could find, plus some made up ones.

The Orville is back!
Chip 'n Dale - super good, I dare say the modern day Roger Rabbit. The jokes and references are a mile a minute, a great tactic to get people to see it multiple times in theaters. Legitimately funny, if I had a family or anyone who cared for me I'd take them to see it.

you guys watch everything everywhere ?
I mean, I kind of get it, it's like rick and morty infiniverse concept condensed into 2 hours, not bad, a litttttle over hyped.
On the other hand, it's technically very good, because it's very open to interpretation, even less locked down than rick/morty, so potentially, if you apply your own logic and reflections on life, it's more thoughtful than the mere cinematic delivery.
in the end, every movie comes down to too much or too little guidance. The fact that we're unable to ascertain which state of exposure the movie is, is perhaps the correct amount, goal achieved ?Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/hVaXskJ.gif)
I would like to see it. Is it somewhere online?

Just watched it, sorry I wasted 2 hours of my life.
If it had come out a few decades ago it might have been groundbreaking, in 2022 it is just painfully stale and derivative. Also pompous and hubristic.
Frankly I am getting sick of Star Trek and Marvel doing it, and they do it a hell of a lot better. Better actors would not have helped, it was just a conceptual dud.
I have also seen it described as comic - I doubt that I even cracked a smile watching it, I only cringed.
Finally got around to watching Glass.
Bad movie. Bad acting, really stupid plot points and character motivations, dare I say poorly written as well.
Just a bad movie. Felt rushed and nonsensical at times. The scenes often made no sense, it honestly felt like some new directors first time directing or something.
Maybe it was the editing more than the directing.

Watched Best In Show followed immediately by A Mighty Wind.
the reliance on gore to sell is lazy.
My feeling about Cronenberg since the beginning.
I suppose that my (highly qualified) "favorite" is ExistenZ but I have avoided the majority of his films because his constant employment of shock and disgust leaves me both irritated and unsatisfied.
I do enjoy some of the avant-garde written fiction in decades past, and Ballard and Burroughs were 2 of my very favorites. But his treatment of (arguably) their best books, Crash and Naked Lunch were deeply dissatisfying and missed what I considered to be the real essences of the stories.
Maybe I will watch this one, I haven't seen anything he's done in several years.
Finally convinced the Wyfster to watch Veep ^-^

Just finished "Better Call Saul" and the ending was unsettling, just like the entirety of the show. The whole black and white thing in Tulsa was frustrating and a waste of time, but I suppose that they wanted to demonstrate again how deeply damaged he was - and would always be.
I am glad to be finished with it. The show was fascinating but it did not enhance my respect for the human race. I hope that there aren't really very many people like that in real life.

Rain is dependent on air currents more than just simply relation to water
Rings Of Power is quite possibly the most boring thing I have subjected myself to in years. I literally fell asleep during the first episode, decided to keep giving it a try, and could not even make it through the second. Like holy crow, how could they take such rich source material and make it so excruciatingly and endlessly dull? Easily one of the least entertaining and droning series I've seen in quite some time.
Started my Halloween Movie Marathon! So far I have watched:Gotta Add Army of Darkness, new on UHD !! really high quality scan

Been rewatching Arrested Development (made me renew my NF account cause s03 onwards is hard to find free)One of my favorites. I need to watch that again.
Very tightly written show, smart jokes, fantastic cast, still holds up.

Watched Weird - The Al Yankovic Story last night, and it was pretty good. Daniel Radcliffe was wonderfully cast as Weird Al.
Entirely goofy and over the top, of course. Recommended for a good laugh.

found out dollhouse was on disney, ive binged that the last couple of days. but now i finished :(
My favourite series right now is Wednesday. It's the girl from The Addams Family going to a boarding/high school, and solving a mystery Her character is based on how she was in the '90s movies, which I have always liked.
Chainsaw Man sucks. What a genuinely terrible anime, filled with idiotic one dimensional characters with the stupidest and most vapid motivations ever.
I do not understand the hype and love for this show. Just pure trash.

Huh. Seems intriguing. Let us know if it's worth watching. :D
if I watched it in '68 I would have been amazed.
this movie wasn't goodAnd neither was Dr Strangelove.

You would have been amazed. It was light years beyond everything that had come before.
I was a sophomore in high school and already reading SF all the time anyway.
its the way how Kubrik did his movies.
What's sophomore ?

Kubrick was a master craftsman and artist. His pacing was set by the requirements of his art and aesthetics, and often felt glacially slow, but he generated his story arc using intellectual tactics rather than "mere" action and emotion.
"Sophomore" in high school = 10th grade = 15 years years old.
I need to watch Clockwork Orange again
it was a bit disgusting for me
RIPD 2, yikes, this is bad.
RIPD 1 was not great, but tp4 still thought it were a pretty cool movie.

Watched the first one last night, but won't continue.
I can see that it could be interesting, but I don't like being "jerked around" and I feel like that is the whole of what the show will be.
I canceled my pre-order of 4K Bluray of Black Adam because I have a feeling the end credit scene with Henry Cavill's Superman would be removed to suit James Gunn's narrative.

I am so ready for that Amazon Warhammer 40k series he wants to doGonna immerse myself in Warhammer lore, so that when the series starts, I'd not be totally lost or befuddled. I understand he's also a producer, so I guess he can exert some control unlike The Witcher where the writers do NOT respect the original source material. Gonna cancel my NF subscription after season 3, I'm done with The Witcher after Season 3, and I'm waaaaay done with DCEU or DCU or whatever the crap they wanna call it now.
Edit - BTW, anyone here watched that South Korean sleeper hit, The Witch? Well, I'd just watch The Witch 2 The Other One (on Blu ray) and it's good, go watch it if you haven't.
Just watch Strange World, and I hope you guys don't think I'm a homophobe, I ain't, but why in the world have a young gay guy as one of the main characters? Don't do it just to be inclusive, and don't do it just because of some vocal woke peeps who'd criticize the movie for not including gay characters. Do it if it is critical to the story, like when I'd first encountered my first gay movie, Making Love, I was fine with it as it was about guys falling in love....actually, one guy falling for the other.
All this woke stuff is ruining themovie experience, is it wrong to have the son of the main character be straight and in a straight relationship? IMO, it's the vocal LGBTQ+ that's ruining society, I have nothing against them, but IF a movie is not 'inclusive' in their opinion, why raise a ruckus and encourage a boycott simply because the film did not include LGBTQ+ characters? Next thing you know, we may have a non-binary Superman....eh, I mean Super Non-binary person/entity, what's next?
Hollywood should take a cue from Top Gun Maverick, a movie that set out to entertain with no LGBTQ+ agenda, and it worked beautifully! That's why it's in my collection of Blu ray/4K collection. I want to be entertained when I watch a movie, I don't want any woke agenda or message being shoved down my throat, that's the thing that Hollywood has forgotten, and that's just to entertain...on a side note, a movie with graphic lesbian scenes is something I am willing to tolerate. ;) :p :))

Another thing I don't get is, and this is OT, why are men who transitioned the female, but who are biologically male, be allowed to participate in Womens' swimming events where they stand a very high chance of winning due to their biological advantage? I don't understand why this is being allowed. Men are men, women are women, just because a man identifies as a woman, I have nothing against this, does NOT equate him being a woman biologically, he can't naturally conceive and give birth. Why this crazy notion that gender identity is equal to biology.

No, I did not say that, even in school, I had a couple of friends who were gay, one even committed suicide, though exact reason isn't clear to me. What I'm not in favor of is this ultra right push to make it more accepted, it already is accepted, even in a conservative Asian country like mine. There's no need to deliberately plant a gay character in an animated movie just for inclusion.
That’s a lot of words to say that you don’t like gay people
I've said IF it were integral to the storyline, and would help move the story along, I'm fine with it. A gay character does NOT need to be inserted into each and every movie just because......if ever 'because' is a valid reason to begin with. What's next in this extreme drive for inclusiveness? A non-binary super hero? A trans gender woman who wins Olympic gold in Women's Swimming? Those two terms are mutually exclusive to me as no matter how I look at it, a male who identifies as female (I've nothing against this) is a biological male in the first place, sure, the trans female can take hormones and medicate to look more like a female, but you can only disguise the outward appearance, biology tells me a trans female is still male....science/biology, you can disguise it, but you can't change it.
Again, I have nothing against trans male/female, gays, lesbians.....basically LGBTQ+, people should be able to lead the lives they want, but in certain aspects of life, I think the push for widespread acceptance should be tempered with patience and understanding, sometimes the loudest voice get heard, but sometimes, the loudest voice also irritates and anger.

We are mammals, not fish, not birds, not insects.....yes, some species of fish are hatched in rivers, they live their lives in the sea, and yes, some do change their sex, but this is a naturally occurring biological change. They do not need to go to, say, a fish hospital somewhere to have their sex changed. Neither do they need to take hormones to suppress their natural body chemistry. When it's a naturally occurring process, it's natural process to me and there's no if and but about it.
Now, as to trans, as I'd stated, I'm for it, if a guy identifies as a woman and wants to effects the change, by all means do it. It's his/her life to live as he/she sees fit. It's when they have a louder voice in legislature that it seems they have more rights than a regular person is where I have a divergent in. By all men, a trans can identify as a female, but that does not necessarily endow her with all the attributes that makes a woman, a woman.
But, I grow tire of defending my point of view, in that I have nothing against the LGBTQ+ community, though I'm being accused of it by ella. So, I'll retire from this forum for a while, or perhaps longer....regardless, I wish all Geek Hacker good tidings and Merry Christmas. Goodbye....
I don't care what anyone says, The Batman was long and boring and corny. They could have easily cut the film down by 40 minutes, so many scenes were unneeded or drawn out. No real chemistry between the characters, a lot of really stupid eye-rolling lines.
An absolute slog to get through those 3 hours.

Just watch'd the Menu.
It's... pretty good, photography's good, plot is simple, not deliberately contrived, stayed interesting stayed focused, did not rely on gore or shock.
One could say it's a little too medium all the way through, but honestly, that's better than the stochastic abhorrence that's become our end game cinema.
The ending is weaker, a bit too-little clever, one would hope there's a director's cut at some point with alternate.
Overall, well worth watching. /lives up to hype

finding it.. childish
I've been re-watching original Star Wars after quite a long break and finding it.. childish :(
I remember watching Star Wars New Hope every day after running back from school in 80s. Loved it so much.
Last week after watching it again after maybe 30 years break I felt like their acting was like in movies for kids, kinda amateur. Some scenes felt fake, like each scene actors were positioning themselves and start moving just when it started, if you know what I mean, pew-pew scenes acted weirdly, like starship troopers just ran into the corridor and waiting to be shot or blown away. Chewbacca yelling all the time so annoyingly. Darth taking his time to turn around during swords fight. I don't even gonna start on that Hoth fight scene with AT-AT... And that Lando and Boba Fett were total di**heads!
I watched New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. Today - Return of the Jedi.
I feel little bit heart broken... :(
I finally finished For All Mankind. What a show, probably too 3 that I’ve ever watched. Just so well made!!
Hah, I'd be down for that.
with regards to religion, there's really nothing to talk about, let's get rid of it, in its place startrek.
Went to see The Menu tonight in a snow storm. Very solid. I went in kind of knowing what to expect, and it was still surprising at many points. There was not really any point in the film I felt bored, so the pacing was great. Just like a well served meal.Sounds cool, might give that a go. Have had Wednesday on my list for a while too.
Anya Taylor-Joy and Ralph Finnes were fantastic.
Just watched s01 of Peacemaker. Probably the best piece of DC media I've seen in 2 decades.
I remember seeing a Cena signed peacemaker poster at the Kowloon (Cena and a couple other celebrities are known to show up there)Just watched s01 of Peacemaker. Probably the best piece of DC media I've seen in 2 decades.
i think the show is ok, but i honesty can't get onboard with these male characters, they are the antithesis of role models.

Bro, I SO hope they keep it a detective show for season 2. It's been so popular the budget is going to about quintuple for the pick up. The entire hook that kept me interested is the detective aspect of the show.
Also Jenna Ortega is devastatingly hot. God ****ing damn she is so hot. I'll still watch it for her, I guess.

Currently im watching The Last of Us show! As a fan of The Last of Us video game series, I was both excited and apprehensive when I heard that it was being adapted into a television show. I wasn't sure if the show could capture the same emotional intensity and immersive world-building that made the games so beloved. But after watching the first season of the show on a https://soap2day-online.com/, I can confidently say that it exceeded all my expectations.
One of the things that the show does really well is capturing the complex and nuanced relationships between the characters. The dynamic between Joel and Ellie is at the heart of the show, and the actors portraying them (Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, respectively) do an incredible job of bringing their characters to life. The show also introduces new characters and storylines that add depth and complexity to the world of The Last of Us.
Another aspect of the show that I appreciate is the attention to detail in the world-building. From the infected creatures to the various factions vying for power in the post-apocalyptic world, the show does an excellent job of bringing the world of The Last of Us to life. The production design, cinematography, and sound design are all top-notch, creating a gritty and immersive atmosphere that draws you in and doesn't let go.
Overall, I think The Last of Us show is an excellent adaptation of the video game series, and I'm excited to see where the story goes in future seasons. It's clear that the showrunners and creative team behind the series are fans of the games themselves, and they've done an incredible job of translating the games' themes and characters to the small screen. If you're a fan of The Last of Us, or just a fan of great storytelling and world-building, I highly recommend checking out the show.

Just started watching it last night, 3 episodes deep now. It's only OK to my tastes. It's weirdly kind of slow for me, and the entire vibe just leaves me feeling fatigued after watching. I suppose in that respect it's much like the game. The set pieces are amazing, or should I say, the special effects. Really captured the look of the game very well. The writing is not particularly engaging, intelligent, or witty as I've come to expect from HBO shows, but it gets the job done for the material presented. The game was never about amazing dialogue anyway.
There's no way Pedro Pascal can pass for 35 in that first episode though.

Scientists LIE, this movie is a cool movie when not taken too seriously.
All those cool disaster/end of the world movies from 90s are super cool.
When watched back then, we were looking at it like it could totally happen. Nowadays, when we grew up, all those stories are funny but not possible :)
I love those movies, I have a separate folder with all those.
The Core, Twister, Armageddon, Day after tomorrow, Deap Impact, Daylight, Dante's Peak, 2012, Volcano, Contagion, Chain Reaction, Missions to Mars, Event Horison...

One of my favourite tv series of all time, 10/10. Finished Season 1, best one, now started second.
(Attachment Link)
All the seasons were pretty good, except for season 4 which had literally nothing to do with Fargo. No money, no story links, didn't even take place in the same damn state or town namesake.
s04 is when I stopped watching, it was like a totally unrelated show.

Supercell, worst movie in recent memory, long winded, boring, low tech.
65 (2023), this is terrible, wth? did we suddenly forget how to make good movies ? what is going on. why would people even commit to scripts like this.

Why? I think it was ok. I liked it.
Saw the Mario movie
It was alright. Chris Pratt wasn't horrible surprisingly, Seth Rogan was dissapointing, he's just kinda Seth Rogan. Jack Black was the perfect Bowser and I loved every second he was on screen. Charlie Day was also amazing as Luigi. Gotta rep an alumnus, god I love him.
Also they put Bowser in T H E J A R
Watched Everything Everywhere All At Once
Got me thinking, maybe I am the worst version of myself? I have to fail so the other versions of myself can succeed, like a failure sponge.
Phinix, have you seen Death Becomes Her (1992) with willis and streep.Yes, I've seen it many many times, funny movie, loved it. First saw it when I was 12 years old. I watched it many times cause after few years break, its still funny to see it, when they throw it on TV :)

It's a very good movie, plot + acting,
Didn't like the noodi-bits, excessive, unsuitable for young developing minds.
Cool.
What do you mean by unsuitable - what kind of age? Curious, cause maybe 12 years old me watching it did some harm to himself :)

Antman Quantumania..
It's a pretty cool movie, sigh, but Tp4 really wishes hollywood would stop framing feminism in such a forced fashion.
It's really weird and unnatural for the actresses to be placed in a locked box with the singular narrative that anything boys can do girls can do just as well. Society today agrees that it's true, but now all of a sudden every female character behaves like a tomboy. In a movie such as this, there's not enough runtime for development/ backstory, so they do not mesh into the backdrop.
It also impacts their acting, rigid, uncanny, 1-dimensional and trying.

It can not be overstated how good Cyberpunk Edgerunner is. The synchronous flow state of the plot, with perfect fluidity, transporting the audience into a dystopia that is so futuristic, yet frighteningly flawed/ human/ and familiar.Hmm, might give that a try then. Not really an anime person, but I love cyberpunk.

This was extremely bland, Tp4 recommends skip.

The mother, plot is too much pick and choose your adventure, a hodgepodge of worn spy movie tropes.
Nothing outright wrong with it, j-lo is a competent actress, and she's clearly working hard, but without the little leftover from her lifelong ago fame, she would not pass a current screen test, certainly not in what constitutes a bland plot.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
It's pretttty messy. at times a bit too gory, even if it's alien goo.
Not a bad movie overall. but messy.
Apes Together Strong
If you're curious about what happened with the whole Gamestop AMC stock thing from a few years ago (that's still on going), or curious about how stocks work, I HIGHLY recommend it.
What you think you know, you don't.
The film itself is a bit slow to get going, it's a documentary maker trying to find his footing but once it gets rolling it's pretty good and will explain a LOT of how things work as well as what happened in an entertaining way (even better if you followed the debacle). The system is so corrupt it's insane, I'm not sure even those involved know how corrupt it is (certainly not day traders) and if you think your retirement is safe in the stock market (hedge fund or 401k) have I got some really bad news for you.

Silo. So far so good. First episode was great, introducing to whole story. After 5 episodes there is a little feeling that they are dragging the story a bit, but maybe they are trying to bring more atmosphere to "sink in", I dont know...

Like that one with Eva Longoria I mentioned few months ago, this is is in same ****-class...

I cannot believe that Dennis Quaid plaid in it... First I thought he was so good in Flight of the Phoenix, I really liked that movie back in 2004, sp maybe this will be good too - but this new one is straight up crap.
Same as that movie with Longoria - I dare you to watch this one :D

The trailer actually looks pretty kewl.
Kind of like Apollo 13, but with a plane with a noober at the helm.
OK... tp, please watch that movie and you will know what I'm talking about
Is it really that hard to land a plane ? Could g4m3r br0s not do it ?
Depends on the plane and are we talking all alone or with help over the radio by a pilot familiar with the plane?
Some small planes now have an emergency parachute and most big jets have auto landing but if you lack those you're probably screwed.
Real planes are far more difficult than a crappy(!) PC simulator much less an over simplified game like COD, it takes way more coordination and concentration than you think and most games simply ignore a LOT of flight physics. If you play enough of the better simulators on a regular basis (with pedals and such) you might have a chance (with or without help) but in general all it would take is a minor crosswind and most gamer bros are dead. Not saying it's impossible but odds are not good.
Can big airline planes do loop-d-loops or barrel rolls or fly upside down?Lops and rolls, yes.

I feel like so many of the Black Mirror plots are just the actual reality we are living in. IDK if that makes it scarier, or less so.
Saw flash, good movie, action scenes great, seems a bit light on character, but it's not like we need backstory for these guys.
Spoiler Alert:
There's no way those babies would survive the G-forces of flash saving them.
Heard it was fine, just not very interested of the flash, the dc universe they tried to push has been mostly a failure so at least the dc fans are getting something alright.

Spy x Family, it's a really an anime for children, but extremely well made. One can see why it's highly recommended on anime of the year lists.
Although clearly most audiences would be too old to watch this.
Will say that oddly modern animes have taken up debanding filters too heavily, whereby all textures and lines look too soft. They went from none-at-all to over-the-top debanding.

People need to be comfortable inside their own heads.

Like even writing emails at work - when you send one question - its fine, but when you send few more, or ask about 3-4 things - they just answer on first one. What the hell?! Seriously - they don't read long emails, don't respond to more then one question. What is wrong with people nowadays...

Hulu Futurama, it's a bit slow, first episode.
I missed barbie and oppenheimer because i've been sick the past few weeks.
Finally watched Guardians Vol. 3
What a mess of a movie. Soundtrack blasting over every scene, barely coherent, jumping around timelines, just having new characters be there with no explanation or introduction. I feel like I missed an entire movie, but no, I defiantly saw Vol. 2 twice and last I heard 3 still comes after 2.

Found and watched the new episode of futurama, it was alright and agree with tp4 that it was slow. Also really don't like how meta the episode was, hopefully it's a one of thing cause it was distracting. Hopefully the later episodes are better because I could see the potential to improve here.
Also weird thing I noticed was that there was a massive retcon where they made it so everyone traveled back to the point before time stopped rather than before farnsworth made the time machine in meanwhile (I was a superfan of futurama back as a kid so I know all this stuff). I thought it made the ending quite open and always saw it as it returning back to the first episode (which happened when meanwhile aired). It's just weird to see them change a massive moment for the show and wasn't what I was expecting, I kinda wish they didn't do that as well. It does create some some new dynamics so hopefully they can take full advantage of that.
Finally got around to watching mission impossible dead recoking part 1. Lots of old folks in theaters. One phone went off really loudly, these people don't even know how to put it in silent. And there was this person who was crinkling a plastic bag throughout the film. My cinema has some stupid thing called an UltraAVX, but now that i think about it, the screens actually very small compared to the Cinesphere which is my favourite theater. It's a shame its closed for renovations, though.
Soundtrack blasting over every scene
For me, this has become a COLOSSAL problem in movies and TV in recent years.
It is bad enough that volume of spoken words has become so variable (for dramatic effect?) wherein the most important words are spoken in the most hushed tones and, surprise! that is when the music often swells.
Presumably, the sound engineers are proud of themselves for creating a roller coaster of noise that increases emotion (but for the worse, in my opinion).
Let's be honest though - did they really need to continue this series? Because this is a hot take, but that ending was already perfect. Just let the guy rest..
Been enjoying the new season of Always Sunny. It feels like a return to form after they jumped the shark last season. You can tell all the main characters are actually friends outside of the show, the chemistry is effortless.
Asteroid City
As one reviewer put it, it's Inception for theater nerds.
Honestly... It's really good and also meh at the same time.
The Alien is fantastic but if you plan to see it do yourself a favor and don't Google it, you need to see it in context for it to really be appreciated.
Watching twisted metal.
It's not bad given the thin material to go on. But I feel like the main character is too forced. Like you know it's suppose to be comic relief, but the levity doesn't seem belivable.
Also, The science is a bit loose. Why would they transport a few bags of dog food around, with gasoline cars, in a future where probably no more gasoline could be produced.

3x popcorn with drinks
I'm honestly not sure attention spans have gotten worse.
People have too much stuff going on and media creators have figured out short pays well. Why make $20 on a 30 minute video when you can stretch it into 3 videos making $20 each. Even with TV, you get less than 22 minutes for 30 minutes, not only does that mean more time for ads, it also means less footage to be filmed. On average, even modest shows need 20 minutes of film for every 1 minute of footage used, on top of writing editing etc... Considering the crews involved that can be a considerable amount saved. Radio is no different, they love shorter songs for the same reason.
So is it peoples attention spans or media telling you it's people's attention spans?
I'm with Iri on this, new shows are no better or worse on pace. Watch some Discovery and see how slow paced some stuff is these days.
3x popcorn with drinks
Cocessions are where they always soak you.
A handful of grain with artificial seasoning and some sugar-water with artificial flavoring probably - each - cost nearly as much as the ticket, or they would in the US.
I used to just go and watch a movie, no popcorn or other food. But with kids is different subject
It's all loosely strung cliches and club music.Always has been.
Burn After Reading 2008, almost formulaic at this point given the lengthy history of successful british comedies of this type, still, highly enjoyable.Oh yes, I liked that movie :)

I feel mostly the same way. I didn't watch it until recently but after hearing glowing reports for months on end, including from people I deeply respect, I thought that it was ultimately pretty crude and lightweight.
Like many movies, I really liked the first half but was let down and disappointed by the back side of the curve.

Good Beginning, Good Second Act, Could've used a bit more twist at the end. Success would've been too realistic or cliche, maybe the director's cut will have an Alternate.
The point is though, they could've left it open ended enough, that we see the psychosis evolve further.

Good Beginning, Good Second Act, Could've used a bit more twist at the end. Success would've been too realistic or cliche, maybe the director's cut will have an Alternate.
The point is though, they could've left it open ended enough, that we see the psychosis evolve further.
Yep, exactly. They could have left it opened. It was a bit plain, maybe if it was a bit shorter, I don't know.
It was a peculiar one, that's for sure. Not to be ignored, worth to see it. Plus I like Jon, he's great in all his movies.
TP, have you seen A Young Doctor's Notebook? That is fun, I highly recommend! :)

A young doctor's notebook.
It's an interesting drama. Some of the plot pieces don't make much sense, but nothing is outright unbelievable.
The natasha arc seemed a bit ham.

I don't think those lists are as bad as you say they are.
IMO the letterboxd top 250 narrative films is pretty comprehensive of a lot of the best world cinema has to offer, but there is still is more niche stuff that isn't on the list. - https://letterboxd.com/dave/list/official-top-250-narrative-feature-films/
Saw Godzilla Minus One on Saturday... might be the best movie I've ever seen. The action and destruction was jaw-dropping, the tension during conflicts was masterfully done IMO. I won't spoil but it's a must see for anyone IMO.
The depiction of trauma was pretty well done too IMO.
Watched TMNT 1990 last night for the first time in probably over 30 years. Honestly I think it holds up as a movie. It has some mature themes, and real character growth.
The human actors are not great, and it could have been about 20 minutes longer to make it feel less edited down, but overall a fun watch.
The suits still look amazing, albeit a bit limited in movement understandably. I also really like some of the experimental looking shots in some scenes. I think the director only did music videos before this film (he did the Take On Me video.)
Watched TMNT 1990 last night
The costumes hold up imho.
Rewatched napoleon. It's pretty good on TV, not a whole lot of HDR highlights, but it's not that type of movie.
Was napoleon autistic? It seems like that's what Joaquin is going for. It's almost like he's channeling Elon Musk, except french and no electric cars.
The framing is excellent.

Went back and watched every season of Fargo recently. Hard to pick a favorite. Maybe season 1 or 2? Season 3 starts off too slow. Season 4 drags on too long. Interested to see how season 5 will end. Can't wait for the Sheriff to get it. Let's hope he does. Jon Hamm plays a great bad guy.

Unpopular opinion: The low framerate in the Spiderverse movies just looks straight up bad, and it distracts you from the movie. It's not a stylistic decision, it just looks terrible.
If they wanted to be stylized, take notes from the Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem movie. That **** looks amazing, and does not choose to deliver inferior visual quality for some dumb hipster bull**** art school dropout pompous reason.

Just finished Equalizer 3,
Sigh.. cinematography is great, but.
Are these films just psyops or perhaps society's self-delusion. CIA saves the day, mafia dies, if something is bad, just take a gun and go kill it, AMERICA..
Denzel signing up for this to champion the CIA as a just organization, does he not know what these systems have done to the black community ?
This is the depth of what qualifies for imagination? Or are such fantasies necessary to obscure how deeply unjust/corrupt civilization has become.

Gran Turismo.
This wasn't bad, the sound design is really what made the scenes enveloping. The visuals are a bunch of chase reel type shots we've seen a million times in games and other films.
Overall, well done, a good blend of fact and fiction.

OMG, oMMGMG, season 2, season 2. What the HELLLL... What is the point of all this, something is seriously wrong with the writers on this. If there's going to be errant romances, they have to have a purpose, without which it's just aimless depravity.Yep, I got part way through S2 and lost interest.
Deeply disappointed, deeply deeply disappointed.

S1 was a great idea but after that it became just another tv show
lazy writing it also could just be because it's what people expect
While much of it seems very familiar to me, eg cars, clothes, and furniture, the writing is painfully sloppy and fast and loose with conceptual details.
I can see how easily it can (and will, according to you guys) fly off the rails into genuine absurdity.

Silent Night, IDK, this one is, they billed it as artistic, but it felt just kind of bland.
I was noticing recently that basically every all-woman cast big budget movie is historically bad. It is really odd, but very consistent through history.
What is it about all-woman cast films that gravitate towards being poorly made, or generally disliked by audiences?

Do you think something like Ocean's or Ghostbusters or Marvels are just swapping males for females and making the same movie otherwise, or do you think at their core, those movies were poorly planned and executed no matter who is in the main roles?
BTW, if you want a good all female cast making a good movie, watch Set It Off (1996), it's widely considered one of the best heists films ever made.

Most are most are written/directed/produced by men who are entitled and see women as property (see Harvey Weinstein and many others) and they're are either written for men or what they think women want and they have no clue because they've never actually cared about what women want. The critics are mostly men, the ratings board is mostly men, preview audiences (and audiences in general) are often mostly men. Even IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes are dominated by men. The entire industry is male dominated all the way down so that's who they cater to. To be clear I'm pointing fingers at the executives, not men in general.
As for these franchises...
It's a gimmick, they can use it to revive a dead franchise or beat a dead horse to make an easy buck, as such it usually has a regurgitated script (only) slightly altered towards the female characters. It's low effort at best because they know it won't make much money but brings controversy (a.k.a. life) back to it and makes an easy buck while gauging interest in a big production revival. Ghostbusters has since been revived and Oceans is now getting a prequel, a spinoff and was going to get a sequel until Bernie Mac's death killed it. They're just trying to capitalize on the female narrative but ultimately it's still aimed at men and making money, they don't care about the mess, the hate, the destruction of your childhood memories or anything else, they just want the money and they don't care who or what they run over to get it.
Good female dominated films do exist but most will have lower ratings simply because of aforementioned male bias, if it isn't aimed at men it gets buried in the ratings, the more women involved or focused the lower it goes. Ghostbusters was being panned before anyone had even seen the previews so you won't find them rated at 9.1 on IMDB but let's be honest, no good lead can't make up for poor writing and women often get poorly written parts because of the men writing them having no clue, it's so bad that even women hate women in movies because they're so often poorly written. Did anyone really have high expectations for Ghostbusters? The writing problem also plagues anime (and comics in general) which I at least partly blame for the rise of incels, as one guy put it, he realized he didn't hate women, he hated women written by men who hate women.
BTW, if you want a good all female cast making a good movie, watch Set It Off (1996), it's widely considered one of the best heists films ever made.
Tried to watch dat' football. Bout 5 minutes in, N0oop. Still boring and unremarkable.
Watched "Navalny" which I had not seen previously.
Cinematically it might have been a bit clumsy, but it really presented a good picture of what he was as a thoughtful man and someone who loved his country. What happened to him is a tragedy and a disgrace.
Does that include him participating in far right rallies or calling Georgians rodents?

I felt in S3, the show was already bordering on highly fantastical. The direction they went, that was about as good an ending as was logically possible, they've incorporated so much silliness on route, that it became harder to take the events solemnly .
No idea, I don't live in your comic book world.
never forgave
So, are there any "good guys" over there for us to support?

Been on a classic anime kick lately. I really think we lost something along the way in terms of squeezing the blood and sweat from the details. The animation on some of this older stuff is so meticulous and fluid, it almost looks rotoscoped. But no, it was hand-drawn frame-by-frame in 1987. They didn';t even have the luxery of a drawing tablet back then, it was all lightboxed cel animation. It is mindblowing.

The rest of the internet is loving Bad Batch s03, but it is so boring, and so slow, and so ugly to look at. By far the worst season so far for me, the 'Attack Of The Clones' of the series. Everything is grey and brown, no one ever shuts up or stops delivering exposition, and basically zero action happens.
Tp4 has never been able to get into star wars.
The Holdovers were really nice. Can't remember the last time I watched a film with Americans behaving like normal people.
Crash Landing On You: the North Korean half is great, the South Korean one is a boring overstretched soap opera with way too many repeats of the previously shown scenes.
Ghosts - 2019 UK comedy about a modern couple living on a run down estate that is haunted. The premise and setup are totally stupid, but it doesn't even matter because the characters are so fun.except the husband

the acting is not really anything special, but i think they did most of the elemental combat very well and it doesnt look too cheesy. i also really like how they handled the themes of war and generational trauma and all that in a way that some audiences can relate to. i really like how its not too watered down for child audiences too, still plenty of death last episode where the fire nation sieges Agna Qel'a shows quite a few civilians getting rekt and blood and they don't hesitate too much to show the effects of someone with fire powers fighting another human with... flammable skin and flesh
OK, wth, Ninja Kamui Episode 3, 12min 9sec, Duck scene.i feel like a common theme in anime is having human voice actors do animal noises instead of just googling "(insert animal) noise.mp3 free download" or taking a duck off the streets and putting a mic on it

Looks well animated.
It's crazy how in this day and age, nyaa releases still come out at wrong frame rates, it means people are recording incorrectly. 3 different releases 29.970, 25, 23.976 fps. 23.976 is the correct one. The 25fps is sped up, and the 29.970 one has judder. Not to be nitpicky, but, we've been at this for well over 20 years now. Frame pacing is really important for anime because it has flat fixed-rate smooth panning shots
SasukeDuck release is correct fps.
I am looking forward to seeing it.
For several years I have been thinking about re-watching the original, but never got around to it. I really liked it, and it was on during my inital involvement in Karate.

maybe. most people here in the states have never had to shift through gears on their own and ive never driven a manual car irl but i have in video games and i feel like its easier to do with my right hand for the more precise movement, where as steering is less precise and much easier so i like to do it with my left

Got a good feeling about Apaceman with Adam Sandler, will watch later.
tp, I'm also not really enjoying this one. Maybe because I was hoping for more space time and more science, than silly "earth" situations etc
Now we need to sit and wait for a week for each episode, which is not ideal too. Meh meh meh... :)
Spaceman, mmm.... Not awful, but mmm... Not gonna be for everyone. The main message of the film is a bit too light for the investment.

I wound up watching Dune 2 Sunday night, and it is living rent free in my head due to both the cinematography and visuals. Greig Fraser did an amazing job with the film, and I definitely found it to be much better/superior compared to the first film.

I saw the 1st Dune a few days ago. They did a good job with the source material, and the soundtrack was great. I still have a soft spot for the oddities in the David Lynch version, but Villeneuve had a solid vision that incorporated some of that weirdness. Much less rushed than the Lynch one, which he famously hated directing.
Check out The Arrival if you wanna see what Villeneuve can do with a tiny budget. Great movie.
Last night I finished the "Monster: The Jeffery Dahmer Story" series.
It was one of the creepiest and most disturbing things I have seen. It was one of those things where I was wishing to bolt for the door on a minute-by-minute basis while at the same time I was glued to it. I will never watch it again, that is for sure.
That said, it was extremely well done and the actor was a dead ringer (no pun intended) for Dahmer. I can't know how factual or accurate it was, but it certainly made the impression of being the real deal.
I hate horror movies and such, but I might tentatively recommend it - but only to people who enjoy being thoroughly creeped out.

I have always felt really disgusted about people doing reenactments of like violent serial killers, it's just feels really unethical, like you are dramatising a real violent, traumatic event, especially when the victims families are still alive. Documentaries are much better at conveying these peoples lives without it being unethical. As long as it doesn't feel exploitative (which is a big thing, it's why I hate all those bloody true crime channels that do mukbangs and stuff)
juxtaposed against a broken story of a man.
Zomg, True Lies, finally out in 4K.I watched that movie at least 10 times :)

Midnight in Paris, pretty decent. It was just fun to watch, very smooth and easy, it doesn't force anything on the audience.
Yea, it's made by woody allen, we know, we know, he's bad guy.

Is that the one where a guy walks around Paris during a whole night and moves in time?
It was good, pleasant watch, I remember I liked it.
documentaries with indigenous tribes, they have really good teeth
I have watched that for years. They don't eat refined carbohydrates in general and refined sugar in particular.

Yup, as long as you can get over the fact that woody is involved, the movie itself was fine. We do have a moral obligation to maintain righteous social allegiances. That said, were we not also taught to forgive as a society? It's a dilemma.
going to see The End of Evangelion today with my mother. not sure how I'm going to explain that scene to her.

I don't think I would take my mum to see that lol
Amazing film though, wish their were airings in victoria but don't think there are which is a bit of a shame.

Anyone else watch that Korean Chicken Nugget show? I feel like chugging soju is a requirement while watching it.
what is the function? you think they would cover the cold bald part of head
Only a smidge auntie, but the situation was clearly much better in 1994 vs 2024.

anyone watching Shōgun?
A huge pet peeve of mine is how loud, and how relentless and constant, the music is in movies and TV shows today.

Improper speaker setup.

Improper speaker setup.
Absolutely not, it is built in. Music in movies and TV shows today is no longer "background" and they even love to run it right over people speaking.
Not to mention that nowadays actors (and, to a lesser extent actresses) seem to delight in poor enunciation, and, in particular, letting their voices fall off when they get to the essence or "punch lines" of important and significant sentences.
Finished Constellation. It was... silly. Nothing spectacular, at least for me personally. There were moments when I thought it might be interesting, but then it all went down to some well known subject and did not bring anything new.
tp?
anyone watching Shōgun? The new Shogun is just OK. It is dark, rainy, muddy, with more sex and blood.
It's truly a shame that there are no "Good" copies of Xmen animated 1997 around. Even the DVDs are really blurry/ interlaced artifacted.
The web version is OK, but very very low bitrate, and bad aliasing.

I wish they would do a Warhammer 40K animated series in that same '90s after school style.
Interstellar, so good.
Interstellar, so good.
The bit about repopulating the entire planet with embryos from a space craft really creeped me out for some reason. That part unlocked some weird primal fear in me for some reason.

Why? That's been a standard repopulation scheme in sci-fi since forever.
IDK maybe the way it was presented in IS where every human is just tubes of goo in drawers. To see an entire planetary species boiled down to how I store my cutlery just creeped me tf out.
Man oh man, the 3 Body Problem started out interesting but has taken a complete dive. Every episode I have to stretch my boundaries of "what is believable" and lately I've given up trying to rationalize some of the "science"
First book is easier to read than the second. The second one is more sloppily written.
Would you recommend the first book in isolation? I've only watched the series (or a good part of it, anyway). If the book is better than the series, I'd certainly consider it
Balls of Fury (2007)
One of the greatest ping pong movies ever made, yea it's a short list, but none have been more successful in making ping pong palatable on screen.

You know, this here sand worm, it would seem like if it ate stuff, the food to sand ratio would be really poor.
How can it process so much sand, and how could the calories from that little food be worth it given its enormous mass and the supposed scarcity of food and water in the deserts of Arrakis.

It seems highly inefficient, just implausible.
I'd argue a blue whale is implausible, but there the **** it is!
Climate the Movie (2023)
The movie has got charts, dinosaur clips, a nobel laureate autist
championing the notion that climate change is BIG BUSINESS and has no basis in reality

That first episode was so good, really looking forward to season 2. Liked that alan was featured a lot more, he's great.
Just got dun' dat Fallout.I'm only up to Ep 2 so far but absolutely loving this show, the writers didn't just take notes, they know the game which probably makes their job easy since the game is rich with storytelling but we've see so many game to movie adaptations flop it's nice to see one really go all in on the lore and end up with something really, really good. The props, sets and costumes are fantastic, they didn't appear cut any corners money-wise.
Humor was on point. Plot leaks if you poke it, but it's good enough that there's more to gain as a willing rider.
It's more fantastic / less plausible than Silo, but the charm gets you through.
Looking forward to Season 2.

My only complaints is that like GOT, it's at times a little too dark to read/see some things on the screen, I also thought Ep 1 should have been a bit longer to elaborate on a few things more, I know there was a lot to go over but the pace felt a little too fast at times trying to cut down on run time. Overall though, fantastic show.
BTW, regarding Silo, Fallout is a mockery, it's not supposed to be taken seriously.
just, can't get into it
already built really expensive sets
Finished Fallout
Sooo good!!!
My comment about being too dark seems the screen I was using is dying. Watched on another screen and it was fine.
Nah, I use that screen at night anyhow while falling asleep, I like it dim, just didn't know it was THAT dim.Finished FalloutBuy dat colorimeter. Screens last forever.

Would this show work for a person who never games?
Yeah, while it very much follows Fallout lore, it doesn't require you to know anything about the game, in fact knowing the game actually makes some of it rather predictable (though in a good way).Finished Fallout

Love the way military vehicles are drawn. Of course the military is a huge waste of money, and disastrous to the climate.

Holy ****... this is some serious story there. I felt stressed during some intense scenes. Worth to watch it, tp.
