Double shot replacements ROUND THREE: Vote for Kits & Quantities!
« Reply #450 on: Wed, 19 January 2011, 00:59:05 »
I'm confused, wasn't the deadline to add new stuff to the kits Jan 15th?

What's the new deadline?  I don't want this to end up like round 2 where there's a million things going on and we never actually get to the order stage...

I was under the impression that Jan 15th was the cutoff date for adding new kits, then the ones that everyone agreed/decided on would be voted on for some amount of time, say maybe another week or two.  Then we'd have a clear number of what people want, and we could check prices for sure, and that would be the final yes/no vote.

I don't mind waiting, but it seemed you had a very clear-cut plan before, and it was nice to see some organization.  Now, it appears you've gone backwards :S.  I'm curious as to what the current plan is, and at what point we are.

The ESCAPE key where the figure is closer to the text looks better imho.

@Broncosoozie

Don't worry 7bit will pull through for us.

He probably got delayed because he helped me put in the ducky kit just recently so was working out the details on that one.

Maybe that is why ?

There will be no new kits anymore, except for the novelty keys.

I just wait for the price quote, so the money-collection can begin!

I'm not so sure about which is better, but the text-Running man-relation should be as in the red graphic.

OK, I've added the "traditional" running man:

« Reply #460 on: Wed, 19 January 2011, 10:05:37 »
This is the last kit I will add to this round. See you in 2012 if you want something different!

If there is not enough demand for it (something near 25 sets), it will be skipped!

Standard Black kit

Standard Black kit .......... $75 / 25 (STANDARDBLACK)

BTW: I still wait for the price-quote and will update all prices according to it.

hmm.. i like the idea of substituting space bars into the standard kit.

could i similarly substitute the mac modifier keys (2xCOMMAND, 2xOPTION, 1xBLANK) into the standard kit?

these would sub for the 2xWIN, 2xALT and 1x contextual menu

ie, a MACSTANDARD kit?

Is there a possibility to have an all gray alpha set? Did I miss it or is it not possible atm?

As for the escapee, good work. I think his right arm (the one at the back) is still a bit massive when compared to the legs? Maybe enlarge the negative space at the elbow a bit?

Do you mean grey blank keys? Yes, just have to add it to the list ($20 / 25).

just send:

The Escape key:

just ask bugfix to fix that elbow-bug.

If you look at the original running man, you'll see that both his arms and legs are of equal thickness.

Maby the arms a bit thinner, but not too thin!

Currently, the arm gets thicker towards its end.

Make it thinner from the 'inside' whare thet 'island' is, so it will be larger. The island, I mean.

Always keep in mind that it will only be this small:

Alpha: A-Z
Alnum: A-Z0-9
Modifier:ALT-TAB
Function:ESCAPE-PAUSE

But I jkonw what you mean: What is black in the Standard kit, you want in grey, and vice versa. Like the Symbolics keybord!

I will see, what I can do (except that I will not be so stupid to split up the Modifer kit etc. into two background color versions!)
PS: If you take 5 grey modifier kits along with the 'reverse-video-color-scheme' it will maybe possible ...

@Bugfix: make all measures for the legs the same (thiker if nec.) and all measures for the arms the same (thinner if nec.) as well.

Make sure that the ellbow is still in line with the right-end of the text.

If this is for the Guru-board, then make sure that there are not such wasteful keys like Backspace (2units) or shift (2.25 or 2.75 units). Also I would recommend to have at least 4 modifier keys to the left and forget in-keyboard hard-wired FN-keys!!!

Announcement!
« Reply #485 on: Fri, 21 January 2011, 10:53:09 »
I removed the following kits becuase of lack of support, imposibility, or because these are now included in other kits:

Chocolate kit (C64 style) ... $75 / 25 (CHOCOLATE) // was a joke, got never any interest (except for 1 vote)
ES kit ...................... $10 / 25 (ES) // 2 sets are too few!
FR kit ...................... $13 / 25 (FR, BE) // 1 set is too few!
NL kit ...................... $12 / 25 (NL) // no one ever cared
XX kit .................... $5-18 / 25 (XX) // no further national layouts
Symbols kit ................. $10 / 25 (SYMBOLS) // 1 set is too few!
Ducky kit ................... $20 / 25 (DUCKY) // 0 voted for this, skip!
Top-row supp. kit ............ $5 / 25 (TOPROW) // some wanted it, now no one ever cared
L-shape RETURN ............... $4 / 25 (LRET) // these where introduced, becuase
L-shape RETURN black blank ... $4 / 25 (LRETBLACK) // of the naming confusion.
L-shape RETURN orange blank .. $4 / 25 (LRETORANGE) // no interest,
L-shape RETURN white blank ... $4 / 25 (LRETWHITE) // skipped!
Black Widow (uncertain if possible) (SPACEWIDBLACK) // no measures,
Black Widow (uncertain if possible) (SPACEWIDGREY) // no votes,
Black Widow (uncertain if possible) (SPACEWIDORANGE) // skip!

The WASD-key is not so expansive as I thought. It counts as normal text, so it will be included into the Gamer kits:
WASD key with arrows Orange .. $0 / 25 (included in Orange kit)
WASD key with arrows Red ..... $0 / 25 (included in Red kit)
WASD key with arrows Blue .... $0 / 25 (included in White on Blue kit)
WASD key with arrows White ... $0 / 25 (included in Blue on White kit)
WASD key with arrows Black ... $0 / 25 (included in Black kit)

I got a price quote from SP, but I'm not finished with the analysis.

I will post the new pricelist in a few hours or days ...

If this is for the Guru-board, then make sure that there are not such wasteful keys like Backspace (2units) or shift (2.25 or 2.75 units). Also I would recommend to have at least 4 modifier keys to the left and forget in-keyboard hard-wired FN-keys!!!

Just for my personal use.

I'll stay with the standard layout for now. More keys are not necessarily better. And there are layers anyway.

FN keys won't be hard-wired.

Yes, but your Mini-Guru is just a normal Cherry keyboard without the function row, cursor-keys and num pad. Not really a good alternative to the HHKB.

Just my ¥2.

The cutoff was for key suggestions:

There will be no new kits anymore, except for the novelty keys.

I just wait for the price quote, so the money-collection can begin!

Cherry MX Blue: Filco Majestouch Tenkeyless. Cherry MX Black: TG3 KBA-BLTD-5RBUVS (Police Cruiser keyboard). Cherry MX Clear: KBC Poker (modded with Ergo Clears) Cherry MX Brown: Goldtouch GTC-077 USB numpad. Buckling Spring: IBM Model M 1391401 (1989-01-03 and 1991-11-21).

Right!

I updated the prices. Originally all prices where calculated at 25 sets, but the majority of kits will not reach that. So I asked for a price-quote at lower quantities. Please look at the first page for the updated prices.

The reason, why the price for the Standard kit is not lower than when it was calculated for 50 sets, is that it as grown a bit since I set the price to $50.

We still need to decide whether it will be a light blue or a dark blue for the Blue on White and White on Blue kits:

BLUEONWHITE.................5 (Gamer kit) ($14/15)
WHITEONBLUE.................8 (Gamer kit) ($14/15)

I will contact all those who voted for either kit and ask for their choice of color.

I haven't really been paying attention lately (sorry) but can someone tell me if my 'vote' counts as my pre-order? I don't want to miss out on this, that's all.

yes your vote is basically your pre-order.   You can still not order what you pre-order if not enough people go for it and it ends up being too expensive so dont worry about that   :)

I'm already looking forward to round 4 since the Black Standard set will probably have more votes for it then, i dont want to get one right now for $75, that is just too much.  If it gets some support next time and drops to 50ish, I will get a set or 2 for sure!   :D

Correct!

I think we should wait a week and then start collecting the money. There will be hopefully some late-comers to jump onto the train with.

If there come loads of additional people out of a sudden, we can refund the over-paiments or just put some extras in, like blank key caps or so.

PS: I will keep those kits which where skipped in mind (in my computer in fact) and bring them up next year for a follow up.

Quick question, if I order a non standard space bar (like say an orange one), does it replace the space bar included in the standard set or is it in addition to?

Edit: I think I got it figured out. Anyway, so far as escape keys, I saw one quite a bit ago that would be quite easy to read when small. I could do it for you in eps if you liked the look of it.

Can I add a vote to WHITEONBLUE?

I think it's just deciding what shade of blue is wanted, you can still order either.
