Hello!
« on: Sun, 16 September 2012, 23:26:25 »
Hello! I am a new member. (Obviously...)

I have only used membrane keyboards, but I'm looking to get a mech... (considering a Model M...) My wallet is already crying!
I am also trying Dvorak. Why? I dunno.  :))

BTW, I didn't know a site like this existed!

Welcome to Geekhack!

I would probably suggest trying a cheap Dvorak keyboard first, before spending lots of money on a (relatively) expensive mechanical Dvorak keyboard, and maybe finding out that you and Dvorak cannot agree.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Yeah, right now I'm just using my current keyboard converted to Dvorak in software. I can only type at ~10-15 WPM right now, but I can feel myself starting to type faster... I quite like this.
