Geekhack Downtime
« on: Mon, 10 November 2014, 11:17:50 »
Hello Geekhack,

I'm going to deploy some much-need updates to the forum software tonight (November 10-11).  I don't have an exact time, but it should be some time after midnight, CST.  It should only last about 10-20 minutes.

rknize, at least one of these updates had to do with tapatalk?

It might be just be that I've never seen it before due to ad blocking on my phone, but today, I got a redirect telling me to install tapatalk. Is this due to the latest update, and if so, is there a way to turn it off? It will be very annoying if this will continue to happen while browsing on a phone....

Yeah, installing requires uninstalling, so the config gets reset.  Nag screen re-disabled.

And now the forum is maintained by zombies?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

More downtime?

Maybe a thread (stickied or not, there are many stickies here) noting the outage and a brief cause, please?

Many GHers are technically oriented, and curious as to what happened :p

again, yesterday's downtime was unscheduled and unrelated.
