Found some
« on: Tue, 29 December 2015, 20:57:09 »
I found a pile of keyboards at an old relative's place. He had more but I did not want to take them all. Some are model M but several of the keyboards feel like cherry MX but they are all black on top and it isn't the regular cross mount for the cherry MX. I can take images of it tomorrow.

It all came free. How do I fix model M if they are not tactile anymore? It feels like it's just mush but it looks normal when I take a cap off.

Might need springs replaced, might need to be bolt modded.

I'd be happy to take one off of your hands. Also I think I should have some extra springs and flippers if you need. I could do a bolt mod for you too if necessary. To back up my work, I haven't posted an image of my current project in progress but see below for a preview:

That's quite a haul!

How did your old relative come to have so many keyboards?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

He recycles old computers. He even built his own system thinggy to separate precious metals from other components like chips and motherboards.
