G80 in a G81 case
« on: Fri, 17 August 2012, 19:23:18 »
Got bored, got a case, got a knife, cut some stuff out of the case and put the guts of a G80 into a beige g81 case. look at it:

you can look at it again from this angle:

it's either the ccng or round3 moogle spacebar. caps are from the g81 which has 1.5x modifiers and 7x spacebar so no go on the g80.

Ah. That's why you had to cut it. Otherwise, the winkeyful G80 and G81 cases are exactly the same.
You will find that the LEDs from your new G80 keyboard are not perfectly aligned inside the old case.
The old cases have thicker plastic, so they are of higher quality than the new ones.

I had to cut a couple or three support posts inside the case too since the PCB doesn't have all of the same cutouts. I can see the caps lock light in low light :P

Now cut the tenkeypad off and make it become a tenkeyless :D.

I'm considering doing the same but don't know how to mod the case.

Here's mine.

good idea. i wish my tenkeyless board had the same spacing as the cherry 3000 case.

I put my Dolch into a G81-1800 case and gave it a regular ps/2 cable while I was at it.

Fit in the case perfect nothing need to be done when go from XXX to XXX generation and same should be from XXXXX to XXXXX generations models.
That's nice dirge, but shame the lock lights decal was ruined and it's GB layout. sth yours came out nice too, but I would have rather saved it for a winkeyless g80.

i have another case saved just in... case.
yours is pretty but for some reason i'm not a fan of the 1800 layout.

There are a few things I don't like about 1800 layout, but it's the only layout that comes in those colors from Cherry as far as I know. I think I like it better than tenkeyless though. I notice you have the oldschool profile on the arrows, numpad 0, ./del and enter... you have any interest in trade for same keys that have z row profile? Would match better with rest of your bottom row and I have been looking for the old style ones to match that profile for my RGB.
