Every single comment denouncing his counterfeits on reddit has been downvoted to hell. Like -20. I guess that's what happens when you get a bunch of casuals who don't feel like putting any effort into acquiring a rare item

That and the fact that ripster has made the whole of r/mk about how ****ty gh is and that the aftermarket price of clacks is essentially gh's fault and r/mk is just 'normal people' wanting these cool caps but geekwack is stopping them... etc etc etc

Every single comment denouncing his counterfeits on reddit has been downvoted to hell. Like -20. I guess that's what happens when you get a bunch of casuals who don't feel like putting any effort into acquiring a rare item

It also helps that k3 has about 12 accounts over there

Maybe he has many siblings

No wonder he had to up the price!

yeah like the recent ebay auctions with stupid prices all the r/mk people are like, 'those are regular prices on geekhack, so we better buy the fakes they are only $40'.....

The color differences are noticeable, taking the HSV + alpha channel color characterization.

Original:
Color (hue):  bluish-grey black
Color (alpha): high opacity.

Copy:
color (hue): reddish coca cola tinted black.
color (alpha): slightly transluscent (noticeable on the (1) edges and in (2) same elevation zone, the original bounces more light).

Isn't this a Lucasfilm issue in terms of copyright or trademark?

Just curious...

Yes, and this is the argument that K3 and his supporters make. That if Clack "ripped off" Lucasfilm (now Disney) of their IP, then he deserves to have the same done to him.

However, the problem with this logic is that, while the Vader image is owned by Disney, they weren't already producing an MX keycap with the image, which Clack copied. He sculpted the keycap himself, based upon other visual representations of Vader. So it's not as if Clack just made a mold of an already extant product and copied it to sell and make profit, which is exactly what K3 is doing.

Oh. So, Lucas is cool with the original molding of the Clack? It doesn't step on any IP toes?

If it is cool, then that opens doors for my own ideas, mwahahahahahahaahahaha!

I would imagine that, given the number available, it never even was a blip on their lawyer army's radar.

Lucas, now Disney, never gave permission, but they also never acted against it. So that doesn't mean that it doesn't step on any IP toes, but it also doesn't mean that they're okay with it.

Like JD said, the issue is that K3 just straight up copies other people's work.  There's no originality or novel designs, it's just stealing the work of others.  Clack and Bro both put work into theirs, they sculpted the designs and did all the work.  K3 just tosses some clay in the base, stamps it as his, then rips them off and sells them..

In brief, CC may be in the wrong with the Vader cap, but it may be a legal gray area, or at the very least, isn't possibly causing any financial damages to Disney. On the other hand, K3KC is DEFINITELY wrong and is committing textbook copyright infringement, and is a much more serious threat to CC's business. And as mom always said, two wrongs don't make a right...

Oh, I get it. I can't stand this K3 dude for what he does. I have nothing but respect for real artisans: Clack, Bro, Martin, etc.

I was just wondering about the copyright/trademark for my own ideas of what I may come up with should I ever try my hand at keycap sculpting magick...

This is my favorite.  It's the same damn argument they use every time:

Since when is counterfeiting competing in a market segment?  Competition is introducing something novel that *gasp* competes with another product and takes away market share because it is superior in price and/or quality and/or features.  K3 does not compete, he counterfeits.
