Too many great 60/65%'s around at the moment. I'm going to have to make some tough choices haha, looks great anyway dude.
Won't be entering as I already have an X60, but if you are thinking about entering I would highly recommend this board
The nicest 60% I own by a stretch
hype hype hype get in on it if you want a quality 60!
Sick board, jealous of those who get in. GL all.
Amazing. Really hope I get it.
Awesome job xondat. Congrats to the lucky people who will be getting this one :thumb:

Looks good!
Will the PCB being offered be the USB-C QMK-compatible one mentioned in the IC and otherwise be similar to the 268 PCB?
Also, will the plate support a universal layout or will it be the HHKB style one shown in the renders?

Wait, it has a glorious fixed bottom row plate? For some reason I want it more now.
Between having extra holes in the plate and my lack of care for 1.25u bottom row, this is the result :))
Seriously considering having that as the only bottom row on the PCB too. Clean PCBs are the best. Would love to have a single layout PCB + plate combo :'(

Do it :p Should offer HHKB layout only plate/pcb, being the most popular and best layout and all
I'd pay additionally for a plate that only supports HHKB-layout. Avoiding those see-through Swiss cheese plates would definitely be worth it.
Can you poll the people that end up winning and if no one wants iso compatibility, get rid of that God awful huge hole in the plate.

Yeah I'll do it for all layout options left. I suspect that split rshift/backspace will stay and lshift will go.
I think it will remain if winners want support. If none of the 20 people want it, sayonara baby.

xondat,
2 questions if you have time :
1) will the brass plate be mirror finish only? I really like the look of the brass plate from the previous run.
2) do you have any pics you could post of the dark grey and silver finishes next to each other? Or maybe of the silver next to a classic beige/9009 colorway?

- Which brass plates are you referring to? I've only done brass for 268 and they're mirror (the same as this).
- Dark gray with 9009 below. I don't have a silver case to compare, but there are many on Google etc.

Oh I see. It's the gold aluminum plate, they came out pretty close to rose golden.
I've asked for the dark gray to be darker in the 268 run, and will keep the same thing going with these. X60 dark gray was super nice, so should be closer to that than the sample.Just wondering you mentioned polycarb plate in the IC. Are you still going to offer that as a plate material?
I did? Probably didn't mean to. I doubt I will unless there is suddenly significant interest.
Mounting will stay the same for when I release X60 V2, so plates with more variety will be available then.
Will pcb be white b.face?
Just noticed in the OP I think you may have accidentally linked the supported layouts for the 268 by mistake

Congratulations everyone who won! Sadly I had no luck this time..
xondat any estimations when are you going to be running the V2? And is it also going to be in raffle format?
Really DreLLin? Like... Really???? :-\
Just to clarify, will this dark gray be the same as the previous run, or darker?
After 280/220, which is after 268... So June/July seems about right.

Wow, would you drop a hint of the 280 and 220?
Also, speaking of the surface of the case, the R1 X60 has a rather reflective and smooth surface which is cool. A more matte finish is also nice and reflects the light more uniformly. (https://imgur.com/a/gG0Yu X60 vs Viper) Since this is a new factory, do you have any specific preference?

Super happy for this beautiful board to be my first custom after several years of salivating over high end boards.
In for a silver HHKB , brass plate.. gonna stick GMK 9009 on it.

a more matte finish is often a mark of lower quality anodizing
basically, good anodizing should feel and act like a nicely polished stone countertop
so a matte finish might be something you want to achieve with cerakote rather than anodizing
but i'm not a metals engineer, so what do i know

You should start differentiating materials between individual parameters that actually matter, and not between "good" or "bad".
Different anodized surfaces have different properties, which makes them useful for certain applications.
Those surfaces are a function of various reaction conditions. (If you want to learn more: https://materialsdata.nist.gov/bitstream/handle/11115/221/Anodizing.pdf?sequence=1)
The only property that somewhat matters for custom keyboards is surface hardness, but I would argue that cosmetics is a far more important factor.
love me some aluminum engineers
Two people haven't confirmed their order. Hurry up foolios so we can get this show on the road.
The wait begins :(
Same factory as 268? So maybe they'll get underway soon since those have to be nearing cnc completion and moving to ano.
Will extra PCBs be available when the boards ship? I went no-PCB but I now think I could use one.
Should fit any 60% PCB using standard placement including Zeal/NerD. I'll have extra PCBs though.
Was the plan in the end to have USB-C PCBs? Or are we still being offered the ol' B.face (nothing against the old n' gold but I want to make the transition to USB-C eventually).
I see that Doyu has come out with a USB-C board but as it's still in its early revisions I thought I'd hold off on it.
Nothing to report as things slow down because of CNY. I imagine things will start shortly after they're back, and I'll report with a estimated completion date when I get it :p
Also I finally compared V1, R, and V2 (took me way too long). See the album here: https://imgur.com/a/pGkB9
R is a combination of V1 aesthetics, and V2 construction. :D

Oh, I see that in V2 you moved the screws closer to the edges to make bezels even tighter.
Will this be "true high profile" and not have any gaps or switches showing with key caps mounted?

High profile of course. Same bezel height as X60 and 268:Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/XyY60Yv.jpg)
What was the decision on the USB-C thing?
Following up on where I left off on discord.

Are the plates already cut or could I change the layout one last time?

I don't think there is enough space under the PCB for them.
It's only ever been a universal layout :)

It might be but the case is designed properly for the PCB that comes with it.

Slight letdown to me. Where can I find you twenty years later to get a replacement... :-X
You said you were going for the most common USB-C placement among the custom boards so at least DO60 and Zeal should work right now?

Oh so it won't be Phillips screws this time. I've both metric & imperial hex keys ready so hopefully I'll never strip my screws again.

Threads? Bottom piece? Doesn't the bottom have through holes which could only be too tight?
Probably a dumb question but would it not be possible to just find a screw that fits?
Probably a dumb question but would it not be possible to just find a screw that fits?
Not a dumb question.
I’d have to modify the weights to fit larger screws through, plus the “M2” holes probably aren’t any specific spec e.g. M2.5, M3 etc.
In general I expect working parts to my specification from a factory, if they can’t deliver then I need to return the faulty parts. Modifying what I already have would be a lot of work plus the factory would get away with it.
@xondat so only the bottom case pieces will be remade? won't this increase the chances of the top and bottom pieces not matching in color/anodization shade?
Just been told they're all done, and ready to ship. Will post new pictures when I get them. :p

Only issues I've found with the new aluminum parts is that the color matching is decently far off, which is annoying, but it's something that can be improved for the future.

It's getting late so I didn't have time to finish building but I will be sure to get some pics as well as post my thoughts on the board and how it feels once it's built. I've been really enjoying the lower height on the 268 and so I'm expecting this to feel similar if not as good.
In the meantime here are some crappy lighting pics I took.

Will preface everything I say about this by saying I was not in the GB from the start and didn't follow everything about this except skimming over the thread a few days ago:
Just got mine, initial impressions are I am impressed. Color matching between top and bottom don't seem too bad for me. Minor scratch by the USB port and on the plate but other than that it seems great. Going to get it built today and will get some nice pictures tomorrow when I get my desk cleaned up :PShow Image(https://i.imgur.com/qtrv37p.jpg)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/t6EQCub.jpg)
How do I program this thing, and how do I turn on the backlight? I'm assuming it has backlight support based on the resistors?

What does the PCB look like?
If the PCB supports QMK, then you need to program RGB_TOG onto a key for underglow (RGB on the underside of the PCB) or BL_TOGG for per-switch backlighting.

So mine is all built and programmed now. Very happy with it :)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/vewxE9c.jpg)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/TTaDfWc.jpg)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/cL7EZkM.jpg)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/HCOPYyk.jpg)
It just has stock retooled mx blacks because this is my gaming keyboard
Things I like:
Very low profile, it is impressive how small this board is especially given that it isn't a tray mount
Seams between top and bottom are very small and line up great
Finish is very smooth (noticeably nicer than 360c, mira, lz gh v2, etc)
Heavy (4lbs built)
Things that could be improved:
Plate is pretty snug inside of the top half of the case, have to push down on it somewhat hard to get it to go all the way into the top
Plate switch holes were on the slightly snug side, not too hard to press switches into though (might just be a preference thing)
Little scratches here and there (One scratch on back side of case, shown in 2nd pic. Scratch on plate by the noxary logo. Scratch on brass plate on bottom of board, shown in 4th pic.)
Resistors maybe could be tweaked:
I think the resistors could be changed to allow for better backlighting. Right now my LEDs are incredibly dim even at the highest setting, dimmer than how bright these LEDs were on the lowest possible setting on the 1UP 60 PCB they were on before.Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/FgriICW.jpg)
When I have more time I will try to swap them out for something else.
If it weren't for chokkans youtube channel I would be completely lost in terms of building the QMK environment. Once that is set up its all pretty easy though thankfully. :)So mine is all built and programmed now. Gorgeous! Looks fantastic.
Good that you were also able to program it accordingly
The resistors sure do look like they need a change -- the backlighting is incredibly dim!

It is pretty good imo. Obviously not perfect, but a lot better than I was expecting. Most of the time there is a shadow that goes down the front or side edge of the case that makes it impossible to tell anyway. So mine is all built and programmed now. Ah that is interesting to know. The weight and plate aren't bad per se, it's just that the plate is probably ever so slightly too large where it slots in.So mine is all built and programmed now. Thanks for such in depth.
On the improvement side, it's worth noting that only the top and bottom pieces were made new at this great manufacturer. The weights and plates were made by a pretty crap place. The small scratch on the back of the case is interesting, I'll pass it onto my rep but not sure what happened there.
Regarding the resistors, good to know. I think this is the first keyboard from me in a while I've seen with full backlighting lolI finally took some pictures, but I'm still busy sorting...

I received the board today and wanted to clarify some things. I tried digging through the post history (briefly) but didn't find anything.
1) Was there a reason/justification for why all the weights seem to be 01 out of 20?
2) Were there supposed to be bumpons included in the packaging?

Yep it's a pretty common practice to number things like that.I received the board today and wanted to clarify some things. I tried digging through the post history (briefly) but didn't find anything. It's 1 out of 20 because there are 20 60Rs and the one you have is 1 of them. c:

1) that’s just what was agreed upon with who this board is for.
2) there is, some are on top of the foam, others are inside the package.
Everything else turn out good? :)

Ah, I see the bumpons now (you even circled it!). Did you send out a form or something asking everyone if they were okay with all the weights saying 1/20? I honestly could've filled it out and forgotten or missed it, I just wanted to ask so I know why, is all.
I think everything else turned out good, I haven't tested the pcb yet but physically I see no flaws/dents/anodizing errors. :)
Finally finished building my X60R today and I just so happened to receive Red Riot today as well so I figured I may as well try it on for a little while.Yeah the reset switch is pretty cool. I've always preferred a physical switch over one hidden inside a layer, so this one is great. And only need to remove the caps lock key.
(Attachment Link)
Loving this board so far very solid feeling and I must say the Reset switch on top has to be one of the most genius things I've ever seen on a keyboard and is a god send considering X60R has 10 screws holding it together.
Concerning my anodization the Silver came out great and both halves match together perfectly, probably one of the benefits of picking a safe color like Silver.
Overall I must say that I am quite happy with this board and hope Xondat keeps up with this quality with his future projects. 10/10

Finish and quality is 11/10. I see that people aren't taking kindly to how tight the plate is in the top piece, but the result is a very well-aligned board.
All the scratches, dings and marks are in the bottom of the weight. I'm still pondering what to do about that, but there's no hurry. The board itself is gorgeous.
As a blue gray case, mine lost the colour matching lottery; the bottom piece is more blue and the top is more gray. Doesn't bother me though; I just think of it as giving the board personality :))
Runs on stock Tealios for now, newly restocked as of yesterday and in my hands as of today. With how good they feel (this is my home board, so there are no noise concerns), my other boards will be the first to get the lube treatment.

Any factory recommendations so I can improve it for the future? I know you two know a lot about manufacturing & anodizing, and sounds like you want to help out.
there is no evidence that you tried to correct this issue
If you read xondat's posts on the 14th and 15th of February you would see that he tried to see if the factory could fix the issues that he had seen. It's not really on him that this was within their tolerances, but hey don't have to read a thread to call someone out, eh?holy **** those are... not even closeima be real with you here

that's QC not factory my dude, don't take this one off yourself
you saw that and decided it was up to your standard to ship out
you could have gotten it and went to the anodizer and said "hey these are two different colors when they are supposed to match"

There are 200 extra sets and the manufacturer told me they didn't have budget to fix the existing ones but ok
Keycaps are very different from keyboards
and further to the point people have been tape tricking gmk caps for years and nobody has rioted about it cause the fix is piss easy

i am short the three thousand dollars it would take to get the molds up to the standard you're looking for since i already forfeited my share of the profit (about $700) to actually have the sets made
to get the keycaps fully replaced it would cost about 10x that, to reanodize/refinish a keyboard it costs about $100
considering xondat's openness with his profits on his gbs i am fairly sure he has that kicking around
when it comes to that last question, at least red riot came out the right color and yolch is negligibly close. it's also worth noting that less that, i'm not aware of any complaints about red riot/yolch
if you wanna continue this piece of discourse please PM me, i didn't intend to threadcrap nearly as hard as i've ended up doing.
