Such a tank! I'm hoping my wrists grow a bit so I'll eventually be able to pull off wearing a blue Pelagos.

Until then I'll have to settle for 40mm divers and 35-37mm dress watches.

I mean, based on what I've seen you post here it looks like you have plenty of other nice watches to choose if you don't feel like wearing a large watch.  :p

Nice watch. How's the Ti finish holding up?

I caught and released a red Black Bay last year. I think I want the Blue one more. Just have to wait for another one to pop up... I think I only bought like 3 watches in 2016, breaking free of the addiction!

Here's the album of my visit to Glashutte with my brother (at the time, my parents had no idea what these watches cost, though my brother was a fellow watch nerd) --- http://imgur.com/a/4SGgg

A bit late but thanks for posting the album. The decorated movement is lovely. Looking at tiny watch parts make my head dizzy.

Thanks and it's holding up quite well actually.  I also had the red and the blue Black Bay but now only have the Black Bay black left.   :)

Ya, the black and gold version definitely is definitely better pick of the retro look, but without being in your face about it. Those hand sets. So much yummy :D

Anybody follow watch accounts on Instagram? Last week was SIHH and there were some seriously incredible timepieces on display.

I feel like a bit of a traitor as I haven't worn anything other than my Apple Watch since mid November... But my grandparents did get me a watch display box and a pocket watch which I will take a picture of next week :D

At work with my Aquaracer WAY211a.

And a couple photos of an Illinois Watch Company pocket watch (~c.1923) that was given to me by my stepfather. Just recently got it serviced and it runs great!

Thanks, the 1675 was in a pop up sale I was putting on with Hodinkee (I wrote for them for about 6 years), and it was too good to even to put in the sale; I bought it before hand (and apologized to the wife after the fact).

Edit
@Rayoui
Ya I really like the new Turtles. I am tempted to get a blue lagoon turtle, but i am leaning toward the samurai. I don't want to own 4 of the same watch, since I'll pick up a gold turtle eventually. I fell asleep last night with the blue one on, and put on my SKX today. SKX felt taller despite being smaller. It just felt weird having it on. SKX is simply unbeatable. A real ISO diver under 200 bucks. Makos/Rays are nice but they're not ISO divers.

Seiko diver lume test time.

There are a lot of FUD about lume and how certain watches glows like a torch, such as the gen1 monster and the SKX. They're only great when compared to other brands ;) Picture = 2 hours after charging each with a 100k CCD flashlight for about 30 seconds. It is too dark to focus correctly so....

List of watches
gen1 monster, gen2 monster, gen2 baby tuna, Orient Kingdiver, ?.
SKX009, Turtle, Sunfish the current lume king, Stargate, Sumo
The Sunfish was tossed in there as the benchmark, and king diver for ****s and giggle.

Best lume in person =
Sunfish
Sumo
Gen2 monster (although slightly less bright than the Sumo, it is more visible due to the larger surface area)
Gen2 canned monster / turtle. about the same
Stargate 2
Gen1 monster
SKX (this one is built in 2015, so it is not the lume composition or age).

Nice GMT. Orient Stars definitely have some of the best fit and finish in watches under 1k.
That crown guard though. Wish it was integrated into the case.

It looks a lot less obtrusive when you are holding the watch than when you are looking at a photo all zoomed into it. I agree though, it could have been a little better integrated.

My biggest complaint is the bracelet. It looks great and is comfortable enough, but it is very light and has a fair amount of lateral flex to it. It's a bit squeaky too. It feels like a Seiko 5 bracelet but looks a lot nicer. I expected a little more at this price point but it's not too bad and I'll probably leave it on.

Uh squeaky bracelets. Usually, I just take it to the sink and use some dish washing soap on it, and rinse. It takes care of the squeak for me.

I am probably the only person that like flexible bracelets. Too stiff of bracelet makes me have to size it a bit loose so I can move my hand freely. The only bracelet I don't need to resize for summer is my SKX009 on jubilee. It just flex itself out of the way. I do wear my watch right on the wrist joint, where it does impede wrist action when it is too tight. It just feels weird to wear it anywhere else.

After a recent conversation with a friend, I was lusting for a new timepiece. I love my Nixon Rotolog, but I wanted to get something a little more traditional that I could also use with a NATO strap. After a couple weeks of searching online, I found the Timex Waterbury and fell in love with it. I went for the chronograph version and found a strap on Amazon. A few days later (thanks, Prime) I had this beauty.

Ahh a semi forgotten watch that sat in the back of the drawer in one of my watch boxes.

NY0040 Mini Review:

TL;DR
Nice beater diver, get a SKX007 unless you have to have a lume dial.

+ISO diver for ~150bucks
+Applied indices
+Lume dial version
+Lovely blackened hands and indices on the lume dial version
+Lume is just as good as the SKX
+Timing bezel clicks into place solidly and very little play
+Interesting bezel grip
+I am a sucker for the Promaster logo... especially in orange.
+Dark day/date wheels
+Looks much less ridiculous on rubber than SKX due to the lugs being higher.
+Better rubber strap than the Z20/Z22
+2mm Promaster line springbars (1.2mm at the tip). Seiko 2.5mm (1.1mm tip) flangeless bars can be a pain to remove without drilled through lugs. I bought a few of these bars in 20 and 22mm for use on my Seikos when I want them on straps. They're easier to squeeze into leathers than the 2.5mm bars as well as easier to remove.

-Good luck finding a compatible bracelet. I have one, but I have it on my BN0000, where it needs it more than this watch (too small on rubber). It is an old style bracelet with folded links that will probably aggravate anyone who've gotten used to solid links.
-Uh, clunky Myota movement. Single direction autowinding. Both winding and free spin opposite of winding make some really loud noises. I still like 7S more than this, despite this has hand winding (no hacking). Crown action is not well dampened and feels chintzy.
-Really grindy and clunky day/date change.
-Case back polishing and stamping looks like it was done by a disabled 6 year old doped up on sugar. Case itself is fine though.

~Wears small for a 42mm watch. However, it is only 1mm thinner than the SKX but wears much thinner. Very sensibly sized on the wrist.
~20mm lugs. Some of my favorite straps are only available in 22mm...
~Lollipop at the opposite end of second hand.
~Better dial alignment to the chapter rings than you get on the K code Seikos. This particular example has about 1° off in the 6o'clock marker. Rest are dead on. Giving this a pass due to the low price.
~Aside from the aforementioned clunky movement, it feels like a higher quality watch than the SKX.
~Lefty crown. I am a clusterpluck of handedness due to semi unsuccessful attempt to correct my evil lefty ways as a kid. I usually wear watches on the left wrist, unless the watch has lefty or 2o'clock crown.

I want to hate this watch but really struggling to do so. It has this almost retro charm without actually being retro. I've been tempted by the blue dial version (NY0045 I believe), and thankfully it sold before I made my decision. These are getting a bit harder to find now. It is really too bad, since just some minor changes with a better movement would make this a superior watch to the SKX. SKX just has less annoyances and has tons more aftermarket parts to correct them.

Blue dial divers. SKX almost never look blue unless it is next to a black dial... Blurtle ran +1sec over the past 3 days... Not bad.

This hasn't been a good year for me. I just noticed I put a deep scratch on the crystal of one of my monsters (don't know when or how), and a small ding on my red lightsaber (this i remember, hand under the table as I stood up in a hurry). I went over 2 years without doing a single damage to my watches... :( Semi glad I didn't do it to my expensive watches ;o

Back to the Caravelle.  Something about it's weight and size.  It feels so right.

Show Image

I was in a panic for about a month.  I actually LOST the Caravelle after the battery died again.  I put it "somewhere" so I could replace the battery and used the good 'ol $8 gift shop watch in the meantime.  The other day I stumbled on it when I was rearranging the nightstand.  Eureka! Brought it back to the jeweler and had the new battery put in!
Great watch!

Nighthawk shot by my potato. 99.9% of the time I am just can't bother to use a real camera now.

42mm diameter, 46mm lug to lug.
Wears big on the wrist, but doesn't look obscenely big on the wrist. This was my first solar powered analog watch. Still loving it.

I think the busy dial is big part of the appeal to me. Vast majority of my collection is boring black dialed divers. This is a bit of an antithesis to that along with my ugliest watch of all time: SKA425.

I've been trying to add a bit more colors to the collection; mainly blue and orange divers. I'll add a few more pilots watch along with some field watches (SARB017 has been calling my name). My new rule for the year is unless it is some special edition, or has something special about it, I can't add it to the collection.

Such a gorgeous understated watch. It's on my want list but there are quite a few pieces ahead of it.

In the end I know I want a spring drive piece in my collection, the movement itself is fascinating.

The movement is a technological masterpiece! I just love the sweeping seconds hand and the craftsmanship of Grand Seiko's are second to none.

The Rolex is still in the picture but i moved it down the line cos i know i will get it eventually. Nice Nomos btw, I was so close to getting a Nomos Tangomat GMT (Bangkok ltd etd) and now its gone up in price by $2000aud

Grand Seikos are something I've yet to see in person but I've heard the craftsmanship is insane, back when I owned a SARB033 I was amazed at how clean it was for a $200 watch.

Thanks! I'm a freak for Nomos, there are quite a few watches from them I want to buy. Right now the mint Tetra with power reserve (I know it's small and a woman's watch but I still want one), Dark Navy Ahoi, and Navy Zurich GMT are my top 3 but there are a few ltd edition Tangentes I want.

For the time being my focus is finding a blue linen dial 1601 or 1603 for my 21st birthday.

Edit: What GMT Master II were you looking at? I personally prefer the vintage GMT Master Is but the new ones are still awesome.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

Oh those are all nice especially the Navy Zurich. You've got a damn nice collection and you're not even 21! I think my best watch at your age was a swatch haha.

I'm in line for a Batman GMT Master ii but i don't think i can afford that one anymore after last weeks purchase. I guess it depends how long it's going to take for them to find me one. Last i heard, it was going to be a 1.5 year wait =_="

Damn, that's pretty crazy. Due to the limited availability of the GMT Master IIs is there a lot of dealer mark up?

Btw you can't go wrong with the new GMTs, the ceramic bezels are gorgeous in person. The last time I stopped by a local watch shop to chat about the new Nomos Neomatiks I tried on the WG Pepsi GMT Master II just because I could, sadly they wouldn't open up the FP Journe case for me to take a look.  :(

I think Rolex rrp on the batman as well as all SS gmt master ii's are around $10500aud but the dealers have marked it up by about 1k. You won't be able to find one brand new for less than 11.5k

The WG pepsi GMT is stunning! If i had a spare 40k i wouldn't hesitate on getting it. I wish they made it in SS though so it's more affordable for people like me. Affordable lol
