I'm interested in a simple wrist rest -- no underside board--in TKL size.   14-14.1" wide.  I'm thinking of something in a cold toned color--either natural wood or else a dye, if you don't mind.  I'll PM you for details!

I'm interested in a 1/2" pressed pine keyboard plate (bottom plate) and 3/4" whitewood wrist wrest for a Ducky Shine 3 (17.4" wide). I really like the ebony stain in some of your completed work so I'd like that if possible.

PM me if you can do this for me.

Can you dye and fade it? I have always liked the finish on Gibson guitars:

Example A (http://www2.gibson.com/Images/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-USA/2012-Les-Paul-Standard/LPNSTDPDBCH1-Finish-Shot-jpg.aspx?KeepThis=true&TB_iframe=true&height=410&width=1000)
Example B (http://www2.gibson.com/Images/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-USA/2012-Les-Paul-Standard/LPNSTDPHSCH1-Finish-Shot-jpg.aspx?KeepThis=true&TB_iframe=true&height=410&width=1000)
Example C (http://www2.gibson.com/Images/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-USA/2012-Les-Paul-Standard/LPNSTDPFBCH1-Finish-Shot-jpg.aspx?KeepThis=true&TB_iframe=true&height=410&width=1000)

I would like a wrist rest which fades to black at the edge closest to the keyboard, which in my case are usually black. Below are some images from when I played around with the idea a few months back.

Currently working a simple wrist rest (option 3) with no stain, just multiple poly coats for Photoelectric

and an Option 2 wrist/keyboard rest with ebony stain for Stiggeh (I think, he emailed me)

Pics will be up of both later

I also have a simple wrist rest for a TKL sitting here if anybody is interested in it (photoelectric didnt like the big knot in the wood so I made a different piece for her[??])

Update on the orders for Photoelectric and Stiggeh

Photoelectric's simple TKL wrist rest with no stain is finished. This one was quite the undertaking, we tried numerous different methods of application for the weathered grey stain and it was always too dark for her, she ended up deciding on a bare wood finish with only poly on top. So I sanded all of the grey off and applied 10+ coats of polyurethane and wetsanded / polished .... its as slick as a freshly waxed car now ..... LOL

Im doing it right meow .... lol
You are!?

Well you have a single monitor setup, I bet you could use it yourself.

I'm looking forward to seeing the process if you're doing it, good luck  :thumb:

I am I am. Making it to see if I can do it, and for myself :p

This piece won't be perfect, first builds never are

Since this piece is made of scrap wood, it's a little bit shorter than my QFR wrist rest, its perfect for a PokerII/60% setup ...... if anybody would be interested in it let me know. After it is complete I'll test it with my monitor for a few days to make sure it is stable

FYI prospective buyers, there are little rubbery feet on the bottom side of the rest so it won't slide. I didn't consider it but I'm so glad it's there.

I'll try to post pics tomorrow when I can get it in front of the board at the office.

Is it Arm-R-Seal?  Arm-R-Seal is the ****.  Personally, I prefer a lacquer, but damn California made it illegal.  So shellac, oil, or poly it is.

It's not too hard to do, even easier (and more awesome) if you do it with curly maple.

Good you didn't damage yourself.  Half of all injuries occur in and around your own home.

Don't worry about bueller, I'm sure he couldn't spot the clear resin glue once it dries.  If you're going to coat the piece then that further helps to cover any 'indescrepencies' that might of happened  ;D .

I may be selling these, Ive shipped one, packed extremely well, and USPS managed to break it -___________- I am working on making a jig to place wood dowels into the pieces to see if it will stay together better in shipping.

I can definitely make one to fit a full size though

I could definitely do a combo piece. Give me a few days to see if my idea will work (dowels), if all us good I will be more than happy to make you a setup

Hi tigersharkdude,
Will you start selling those monitor stands? and if so, will you make so full sized keyboard will fit?

I may be selling these, Ive shipped one, packed extremely well, and USPS managed to break it -___________- I am working on making a jig to place wood dowels into the pieces to see if it will stay together better in shipping.

I can definitely make one to fit a full size though

Recently I made a wrist rest for JDCarpe (seen below) and I surprised him by making a monitor stand as well and sending him a combo set (pics below), sadly USPS damaged the box and broke one "leg" off of the monitor stand (JDCarpe is currently trying to fix it). Here are some of MY pics before I sent it out

As mentioned in previous messages, I am currently experimenting with wooden dowels to see if that will make the piece even sturdier (I had NO issues with just glue, but evidently USPS likes to play football with packages)

You could maybe do those metal corner braces--4 per shelf, in case there's a very heavy monitor. Easier than using dowels, perhaps.

would take away from the overall look though, IMHO.

I don't see any issue arising with the dowels. Ive got a test piece in clamps right now, and I will let it dry a few days and do various drop tests to see if it stays together

Those go inside the shelf, under the top part and along the inner sides. You wouldn't see them unless looking underneath.

I only brought those up because my monitors are heavy 27" with tempered glass, so when I was making a similar shelf in the past, I had to make it extra strong.  It's really a matter of how much weight they will be made to support and overall size.

Hey tigersharkdude, was wondering if you would consider this website as a source for your awesome rests?

http://www.woodworkerssource.com/

I'm not sure if the pricing is right for you. I guess I'm just trying to help you find some sources to open up the possibilities  :p

Definitely considering an option 3 walnut rest with no stain. I'm just waiting on shipment of my TKL board so I can let you know exact measurements =)

Oh.. I still want a leopard wood rest some day!

I will not be using any other woods besides; pine, white wood, oak or cedar (at least not on this old saw). I tried cutting some really hard wood for Photoelectric and it messed up the blade and burnt the motor out on my table saw. That's why I'm gauging interest, to see if it's worth fixing my saw.

Thanks.

I'm interested in a wrest, once you are able to work with hardwood again.

I am, I'm currently working on 3 so it will be a few days before I can accept another

EDIT: I can't do any HARD wood. My saw isn't nice enough to cut it.

That's fine, is there a waiting list and are you only able to do pine or whitewood still?

I can do pine, whitewood or Cedar (cedar is option 3 only). There is no waiting list ATM, you would be #1

Sign me up, I will definitely buy one. I only want option 3 anyway, but the problem is.. I am not to familiar with wood choices and finishes. I'm looking to get a rest that fits a tenkeyless board (Varmilo VB87M) and has a smooth/darker (not too glossy more matte) finish. The plank and cedar wood rests from the previous posts look great, so I wouldn't mind either wood.

Ok, I'll get some pics of the 3 different woods in Option 3.

Plank is a type of keyboard, the rests for those are made of pine. The one that has no finish or poly is made of cedar. I have an ebony stain BUT it is dark, almost completely black.

I'm not positive, but if you get me the length I can make one for sure.

I see. I like the pine better, but I'll wait to see what whitewood looks like. I also want to see what an ebony stain looks like. I forgot to add, I also like the slight curve you put on the plank pieces.

White wood and ebony would look the same as pine. The grain between them is very similar

Most pieces will have a good curve to them, Hwoods  piece is so narrow that the entire piece is an angle instead of having a curve

I sent you a PM earlier with a pic or two in it

The keyboard is named after Max Planck (Planck's constant) whereas plank is for wood. So I guess I ordered planks for plancks.

New piece I'm working on, it's for a Varmillo TKL. The stain is English Chestnut mixed with Ebony a there is no poly on it yer

They came in yesterday and they work nicely. I found however after long use my wrist 'sticking' to it from being a bit humid/sweaty. I'm thinking about lightly sanding to smooth it though is that the right way to approach this?

You may need to give it a few more days to completely cure. If you sand it it will likely lose its gloss unless you have some polishing compound on hand (I use car polish)

Update on Cebu's piece. It's for a Varmillo TKL, the stain is a mixture of English Chestnut and Ebony.

Do note that it's not finished, I still need to wetsand it smooth (the new poly is like water -___- and it runs like crazy ... I am not a fan of it at all)

"Negative" angle is where the front of the keyboard is higher than the back. This is the opposite of where keyboard feet/risers normally come, but - depending on the size of your hands and the details of your setup - is arguably a better posture ergonomically, and is certainly kinder on your wrists. For built-in examples, see the Microsoft 4000 (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/_base_v1//products/natural-ergonomic-keyboard-4000/mk_nek4000v2_otherviews01.jpg) or Sculpt (http://www.pcper.com/files/imagecache/article_max_width/news/2013-08-14/microsoft_kbmnum_side.jpg). When people are writing about "tiliting" in addition to "tenting" with regard to their Ergodox, this is what they mean. ("Tenting" is the angle of the sides.)

Actually, all I really want is enough of a slope to counteract the HHKB's slightly agressive forward angle, and make it overall flat.

Failing this, I'll just order a normal wrist rest with no bottom panel. :)

I understand the negative slope, but not sure what type of piece you are wanting (simple piece or piece with bottom plate?). Approximately how tall would the front of the rest be? And how tall for the back (where it touches the keyboard?

The front of the wrist rest would be roughly the same height. Currently, the bottom plate extends out as a flat piece of wood, i.e. a rectangular cross-section. I was suggesting that the bottom plate be glued, planed or cut to a trapezoidal cross-section, so that a keyboard sitting on it would tilt back. Or am I misunderstanding what you mean by front/back? I thought this was simple, but if it's not - or if I'm not making sense - I can sketch something out when I have a second this weekend.

I see what you are saying now. I have no way of cutting a piece of wood like that.

Sorry
