NAS HDD Recovery Tools ??
« on: Mon, 09 April 2018, 05:54:13 »
Hey guys,

Somehow recently i miss click remove button on the shares folder in my "WD My Cloud". All the files on that folder deleted.
I already tried using the Z-a-recovery (premium license) but the files on the NAS not shown at all, all just the system file

Is there any recommendation to get some files at least back / recovered ?
Most of the files are JPG/PSD/PSB

I appreciate for any helps :thumb:

I was going to say you need to pull the drive from the NAS and connect it using a sata cable but then I noticed RAID, it always complicates things (I'll bite my tongue on that issue as it won't solve your problem). If it's still in the NAS you may need to pull the drive in order to get direct access, trying to recover files through a usb or ethernet connection doesn't give you the same hardware level access.

As silly as it sounds, I've seen Recuva recover files expensive programs couldn't.

I've always suspected Recuva is an NSA affiliated corporation, they know their stuff alrite.

Thank you for the info, but looks like that service will cost very expensive

Looks like ZAR deep scan method working now, at least it needs around 17 Hours to complete the scanning.

Trying to recover it and will close the thread once success, hopefully the software useful for others people later :thumb:

Ultimately if you don't keep your data backed up, the cost of recovery becomes very expensive.
I proxy anything including keyboards (キーボード / 鍵盤), from both Japan (日本) and China (中國). For more information, you may visit my dedicated webpage here: https://www.keyboards.es/proxying.html

If it works like most, that is just the scan and depending on what it finds, then you you get the fun of trying to sort though the things you trashed or revised, if some have the same file name and even figuring out if it's intact or can be rebuilt...

There's a reason data recovery is so expensive.

There's a reason data recovery is so expensive.

Not to mention the hardware costs for opening one up if necessary.

That's fantastic!

Congratulations on a successful outcome :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

If it is NAS drive, I can suggest a software which I have used. I did not create any restore point, so when the data was lost I had no choice other than purchasing a NAS recovery tool.
https://www.remosoftware.com/recover-data-from-network-drive. But this is slightly costly than what you have recommended.
I even tried using Recuva, but unfortunately it did not work for me.

I wonder how this compares to PhotoRec, in terms of recovery power (GUI vs CLI aside). I'll keep it in mind. Looks like the original filenames were intact which is a bonus.

Yeah Recuva not works for NAS, try ZAR if you need recover files later :thumb:

I have tried PhotoRec / TestDisk which is CLI both through OS X Terminal / Windows didn't work at all (no files shown). I followed the procedure on their web.
