Hi :)

Thanks ! I'm using Xubuntu exactly, for I wanted a lightweight WM/distro, and since I'm new to Linux, picked an Ubuntu-based one. But I'm thinking about maybe switching to Fedora soon ^^

About the CNC Keycaps, I got them from a HK guy on Deskthority (There is his thread). I might consider getting rid of one, I tell you soon, however I think he still has some to sell, just shout him a PM ;)

Xubuntu is really nice. I really like XFCE, even on systems with nice specs.

The various *buntus are very user friendly, and well supported. You will find .deb packages for just about any software you want, and most packages are in the Ubuntu repositories. You can try Fedora/XFCE, but you will probably go back to Xubuntu in the end. I have tried variously Arch, Debian, Linux Mint, OpenSUSE, Fedora/RedHat, DamnSmallLinux, and Slackware, and I always find myself back on the *buntu after a while.

Yes, that also was my point, I just wanted to get a lightweight distro, even though my system is a good gaming RIG, for that was one of the main reasons I switched to Linux, compared to my last heavy 7 OS.

I think you're right, given that I already have a dual-boot with Fedora, but as I have some problems (no sound, etc ...), and not much time, as of now, to fix them, I'm staying on Xubuntu most of the time.
That said, I'm still looking for a very lightweight distro for my NetBook [Tried SliTaz (almost good, but not enough compatibility with printers/webcams for example ...), Puppy Linux, Tiny Core, but not really enjoying them ...]

And thanks ! :)

PS : I think I'm going a bit (too much) out of the subject here. But isn't there a Linux thread somewhere ? Didn't find it ^^'

Plasma Desktop 4.9.0 on Kubuntu 12.04. Nope, I don't use window decorations and taskbar.

I'm actually thinking about switching to Linux (damn we really need a linux thread ^^ I will start one in a sec ^^)
I loved Ubuntu (when I used it for school) but all my friend tell me Kubuntu is better; do you guys have any advice?

I really don't like KDE. It feels way too Windowsy. Old school gnome in Ubuntu was way better. Much simpler and more straightforward.

As far as I'm concerned, it's not on your desktop, but on those we regularly see (and as a result, that I took as examples) for KDE, on which we see a """windows"""-looking taskbar, and its menu, looking too much "windowsy" for what I've seen.

Again, didn't really try KDE, so only first impressions there. (And as I'm definitely looking for a lightweight environment, seems like KDE is a bit out of the question, right ?)

When people say that KDE is to windowsy (whatever it should mean), I ask them what is so windowsy about my desktop (screenshot above). I usually don't get any clear answer. -_-

It's not the look, I can make Windows not look "windowsy". It's in the way things feel when using the desktop. Things like systems settings and the menus and such.

But Idunno, I haven't really given KDE a workout for a few years. Things may be completely different now.

those window controls look a little funky not being centered.
check out Soft7 -- its not quite like the matte look of the finder in OS X but it is the least offensive theme for w7 i've ever seen. also i like that bookmark start icon :)

Yeas, it is Win7, The Theme that I am using is called Snow Leopard. However, there a about 50000millionbillion themes named like that so I can send you the theme files if you want. The start button is gotten from here:
http://hiranokite.deviantart.com/art/Red-Ribbon-port-Windows-Seven-196759227vvvvv
and is applied using this application:
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/windows-7-start-button-changer-released
If you are interested, the dock is called "Object Dock". It's probably the best dock you can get because it does not let a maximize window go over the dock like so:
2920-0
At the bottom right, you can see a semi-transparent calendar widget that is very helpful. This can be obtained from here:
http://customize.org/rainmeter/skins/64456 (note: you need rainmeter)

Yeah, I have been using Soft7 in the past. I have a huge visual styles library so I change theme every week. What do you mean by the window controls? you mean the close, maximize and minimize buttons?

OS X window manager and 'visual style' is much more tightly integrated though. The controls are usually equidistant from the window border on top and side, and content below.

Just one of the little things.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I used to spend a lot of time designing skins in rainmeter. Too bad most of them only work in certain years or specific time periods. I found some of my better ones. It has a changing time and date, a calendar with classes and bars which depict free space in the hard drives. I had a different windows button too, don't worry, it wasn't blue.

I should make a new one. Currently, my desktop looks like ****.
