this is also a good time to start collecting food restrictions. things we need to know: food allergies, vegetarianism, veganism, lactose intolerance, pescetarianism, pork exclusions, red meat exclusions, whether you would like to imbibefor me (and likely at least one other):
I'm flying in late Friday night and leaving early Monday morning. I couldn't get flights for a better price at different times and I'm out of vacation. Think my arrival time is like 2300 or something on Friday and my outbound flight is like 0800.
in addition to itineraries, can people without a place to stay let everyone know? sharing hotel rooms would be an extremely good idea.
it's looking like i'm even going to be staying at a friend's house, so i'm afraid i won't have a place for people to crash
also, is anyone up for board games at the actual con?

I wish I could bring my entire collection for you guys to see, but logistically, that ain't happening.

That would probably require renting a uhaul truck and driving :P

I'm bringing keyboards. You can't stop me! But what should I bring? I think I can bring 3-4. Kingsaver was requested by a few people so that's coming. But what else?
Also we need Cards Against Humanity.
BRING IT SMASHER816!!
I wish smallfry was still around and on the role call list. I think it would have been fun to talk to him and get to know him.I'm 18, so you won't be all alone. ;D
I'm just curious. But is there anyone else attending around my age (18)? I got no problem with being on the younger side of things.

booooooooooo
i'll be around, but i think most out-of-towners are flying out sunday night.
speaking of out-of-tonwers, is everyone good on lodgings so far?
I have the base and a couple expansions and am in the Bay Area already if you don't want to carry the weight. Also we need Cards Against Humanity.
I got it. Just the plain set, no expansions or anything. I can pack it if you want...
I'm really sorry if this has already been discussed, but there will be a stream of the July 12th/13th meetups, right? I really enjoyed watching the one last year! ;Dit hasn't really been discussed properly, but yes, we're going to have an EPIC stream. there will be at least 3 cameras and two separate livestreams.

one of them will be a gopro on cptbadass's head.
I will be coming +1ish on both days. If anyone arrives early on Friday and wants to go to the Computer History Museum (http://computerhistory.org) let's figure out a time and I can lead a tour. Ideally we'd start by 1pm at the latest so we can see the Babbage engine demo.
I'll bring as much of my collection as I can carry. Maybe damieng is coming and can give me a lift. I have linear green Alps, a Minitouch, an Atreus, and some Duck boards as the collection highlights.
Edit?
I am a GitHubber, aside from bringing some Octocat stickers I won't really be there in "official" capacity but if someone wants a GitHub-related side event please let me know and I'll see what I can do. Maybe I'll bring some t-shirts to give to people with my favorite keyboards.
Make sure you stop by the gift store at the computer history museum. There are some very nice android tshirts I picked up last time I was in Cali.

I was just telling CPT the other day that while I'm there I HAVE to go to the Computer History Museum. That is my kind of place! This has to happen. I arrive early on Friday, and I'm planning on stopping by to see hashbaz at Pixar at some point, but scheduling a trip to the museum shouldn't be a problem for me at all.
Also, I would love some github swag!

Unfortunately, I'm flying in late Friday night and leaving early Monday morning.
can anyone offer hoffman a place to stay for the weekend?
if all else fails, i think i can find him a place, but if you have a couch for him to crash on, it would be ideal
no worries about bringing keyboards if you're out of town. i can probably fit a 20th of haata's collection in the fiat XDIt all fit in a moving van, but he's acquired much more since then!
I will not bring my entire collection, even though I'm local...I'd need a uhaul...
I'll bring a large selection of rare stuff though :D
Hoooooly crap. So, I'm bad at flights. I don't fly often at all.
Does it seem normal that a typical two way flight would end up costing over $550?? (from MKE to SJC) And that's with the super cheap option of Southwest's "Wanna get away" deal. If I did a 'regular' flight it would be closer to a thousand.
Is this typical? I was expecting it to be, like...$300-400...
I mean, I'm still gonna go. Cause why wouldn't I? But I just don't want to get ripped off.
And yes I realize I'm getting tickets rather late, but unfortunately I didn't have a choice. :( I didn't know my vacation options until a few days ago and then due to a payment thing I didn't have money until now. :( And actually this is the price that the tickets have been for months, even though I thought they were cheaper. Southwest apparently prices each direction separately. Cause that makes sense for a two way flight...
Will there be a soldering station there?i can bring my 2020
YOU GUYS I FINALLY BOUGHT MY TICKETS. I will be arriving in OAK around noon on Friday, and departing from SJC around 4:00 pm on Sunday. So excited!!!
:D
I'M SO EXCITED.
I am fairly new to the community but it looks like I will also be going to Keycon from Florida!! Super excited. The only issue is that I haven't found any sort of transportation nor lodging as of yet. If anyone could lend me a hand or point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it.

Where are you at in Florida?
Stay as close to Keycon as possible so transpo is not an issue or coordinate to stay near peeps going (carpool)

I am in Orlando and I'll be flying into SFO at 2:00pm. I'm hoping that someone is arriving around that time so we can work something out.

Chocolate makes me sad. Gives me headaches when I eat it :(
Chocolate makes me sad. Gives me headaches when I eat it :(how do you manage to eat so much ice cream then? i am completely boggled by this contradiction
actively soliciting presentations now
I would enjoy presenting, but I don't have much to present on that's in any way related to keyboards. All I know about is general polymer stuff and paper and polymer processing in industry. :confused:Keyboard cases, keycaps, and many internal keyswitch parts are made of plastic, so that sounds pretty relevant to me!

Man...you guys may be flying out of really small markets or the prices have gone up way faster than I expected. I paid $400ish for my flight to SFO.
Dorkvader, I think you could bring up to 4 keyboards if you don't need a lot of clothing.

try and grab a group shot if you guys can.............
i know cpt is a chow hound, so food is a priority
cpt you taking your KS?
Please bring baked goods omg. If y'all don't know, GH meetups are always about food first and keyboards second...or maybe that's if I'm involved :P

very difficult to get from south bay to east bay in the afternoon. are you coming in to SJO, OAK or SFO?
I'll be going! And hopefully dragging my boyfriend with me, along with maybe 1-3 other friends!
I don't have anything particularly interesting to bring, unless anyone wants to see a rainbow of Binge lions. I'd offer to bring baked goodies, but I'm not sure if there would be any food safety issues. And, yanno, keyboards don't always mix well with cookies, cake, and pie. :P
But any baked goods without chocolate will be fine with me. Thanks for offering to bring goodies ^__^

I honestly don't understand how bringing and eating chocolate would spite me but ok. Do you.

It's to make you eat it, not for him to eat. Clearly you need some.
I will be staying in Santa Clara by school and plan on taking the CalTrain into Mountain View. What is the best way to get to 727 from the station?
It is about 3mi so I would prefer not to walk and that is what google suggests even with buses and stuff selected. Is there some more public transportation that I should know about? I suppose I could always take a cab (or maybe someone could pick me up on their way if they drive. I don't know).

The best thing for us to do is have people go to the Mountain View CalTrain/Light Rail station. Express trains from north and south go there, as does light rail.
Then we can have someone drive the 724support.com company van over there to pick up 1-8 people per trip.

That said, I do know things about polymers and can still present about all sorts of polymer processing techniques. I was just saying that I'm not an expert on injection molding. ;)
i'm looking around the office for walkable restaurants that could fit us for saturday
#2: I want to rent some folding tables and chairs so we'll have enough display space, but I will need some help to pick them up on Friday afternoon. I have a truck and trailer, but need another person to help lift and carry.I will be happy to help lift and carry.
Anyone going to be available to help with that?

Couple of things...pho is very difficult for vegetarians. is shoreline pho more of a full-menu vietnamese place or just a pho place?

Okay, so I'm going to bring some hall effect sensors to the keycon. One has a clear epoxy window where you can look in and see the IC itself. Since it's so old (1970) you can sorta make out the various elements.
I think it'd be awesome to get a macro photo of it. Does anyone have a macro camera, or some sort of lens? My cellphone is not "sharp" enough close in to make out anything decent more so than the naked eye, so maybe even a better camera could work.
I'm compiling the slides I'll be talking on for my presentation now. <3 hall effect.

^Let's keep the trolling in this thread to a minimum ;)
The In-n-out on Rengstorf is good for a quick bite but not really for a meal together with drinks, conversation, etc.
Ming did you have anything specific in mind? Something on Castro/California/University maybe?

I demand you bring me the best local ice creams :D
you literally have to run all over the bay area for the best ice cream. bi-rite in SF, fentons in oakland is a classic (that's what i grew up on), etc. etc. and there are a ton of pop-up shops that are using new artisinal techniques, including LNO2 JIT production, small batch fresh and sustainable everything pop-ups from kitchener in oakland (actually founded and run by a friend of mine from high school), and god knows what more has popped up in the years i've been gone.
i can't point you to the best of _any_ food in the bay area because so much of it is so damned good.
I'll bring at least a tub of something decadent to start the morning right. Although, I hear from the grapevine the hip way to get ice cream these days is in sandwich form at places like CREAM. But the hippest things are so overpriced, so maybe I'll just bring a sack of some satisfaction guaranteed aka klondike bars.
Damn hipsters and their ice cream sandwiches!
Ravello is on its way to the west coast!

Bay area best area, because food. :D
clacktalk forgot to mention that the ice cream sandwiches from CREAM aren't ordinary ice cream sandwiches; they're ice cream squished between two warm (supposedly freshly baked) cookies of your choice. Very yummy. I'd still rather have an Its-It.
Foodcon West, anyone?

Works for me. I know a place in Midland that has great BBQ. :)
imo, CREAM is pretty blah. the ice cream is just like grocery store ice cream, and the cookies are like pillsbury. the major redeeming factor is that it's incredibly cheap.
