[IC] TMOv2 50% keyboard

    TMOv2 INTEREST CHECK

    Hi everyone!

It's been bit over a year since TMO50 group buy happened. Ever since that time I've been thinking about running it again. I couldn't but I really wanted to.
People have asked me privately and publicly about if and when R2 would be happening and the only real answer was that something WILL happen! So here it is!
    TMOv2

    Design choices

Year in our community is a long time in terms of design trends. Mounting types, material options for cases and plates, colourways, switches, even layouts.
TMOv2 was inspired by both older boards and newer trends alike to accompany the current design language yet still paying homage to those keyboards that started it all.
Keeping the same signature layout, thin bezels and front lip from TMO50 was a priority since the start.

    Features

    • 100% base kit compatible (*)
    • QMK compatible USB-C PCB, designed by Upas
    • 22(!) underglow RGB LEDs
    • Top mount construction
    • 7 degree typing angle
    • Brass weight

(*) - Most GMK and EPBT keyset base kits

    Layout & key mapping

Thinking about TMO50s huge cutout in the middle row, we knew there must be a better way. Looking over the idea that TMO50 is a "base kit compatible" sub60% I must admit it was only 96% true.
Either you go with off-stagger and have two 1.5u mods in the middle that aren't the correct profile or you go with regular stagger and still have a 1.25u mod that's not the right profile.
By making TMOv2 layout only 0.5u wider it becomes a 100% "base kit compatible" sub60% with regular stagger and correct profile keycaps on all 50 keys!

TMO is all about YOU making it your own. From keysets to artisans to keymapping. With QMK you're encouraged to make TMOv2 fit your typing style. Stock keymapping is only there to be a sane "default" and it's the one I've been using daily.

    Included in the base kit

    • Keyboard case (Aluminium OR Polycarbonate)
    • Keyboard plate (Sandblasted brass)
    • Weight (Sandblasted brass)
    • TMOv2 USB-C PCB, designed by Upas
    • Plate and case screws
    • 3M rubber bumpon feet
    • TMO stickers
    • "Frog on a log" artisan by SPARKLE PONY (Exclusive to US Polycarbonate case orders)

    Add-ons

You'll have the option to order:
    • extra PCBs,
    • plates (Sandblasted brass & tranlsucent clear polycarbonate),
    • translucent clear bottoms

    Case colours

Going with "what's in" right now we think that these colours fit most keysets out there. Please keep in mind that a photo/render/Pantone code won't be 100% exact IRL colormatch and there can be slight difference.

(*) - Smoky PC will be darker
** - For some aluminium colour (red, blue gray) examples refer to Equinox.

Some more shots of the board

    All renders
    All CAD screenshots

    Information about group buy

    GB date: November
    Pricing: TBA

    Vendors:
    USA - CannonKeys > FCFS (100 units, 65 Aluminium/35 Polycarbonate)
    EU - MyKeyboard > TBD

    Thanks to

    • Upas for being the initial push to re-start this project, the amazing work on PCB design and being my "partner-in-crime"
    • Abec13 for all the renders and great case/keyset combos
    • RealLaugh and Vegs for being the best bros I could ask for
    • SPARKLE PONY for the wonderful artisans
    • BunnyLake for the logo and the support way way back in 2017/2018
    • Everyone who's shared their TMO50 build logs and photos with me or has shown interest in owning one

HERE WE GO BOYS TMO50 layout is the greatest thing ever let me tell you sir. First of all class ic inspirations on the HHKB blocker style IT also has the ; and ' kjeys unless other competitors in the 40% space which I find completely unreplaceable in layers it also has extra keys for macros (read: artisans- I absolutely love the layout where you have numbers/!@#$%^ that replace qwerty it means i can type for long periods of time wihtout twisting my hands at all whereas on a normal board you ahve to twist your wrists sometimes to type for me I just have to hold down left space and click asdf to get to numbers It's also just gorgeous IMO Ano quality is good, engraving is good, I like how he made it so you can buy a 40% sized board/layout but not need to buy 40% sized modifiers for your keyboard so you can use base kits and uh yeah that's it That's why TMO50 is my every day board I literally am typing on it right now and have used it every single day at work for the last 4 months 0 inftention to ever stop

    I mean it's happening :p

The Legends foretold of this sacred day.
Excited for this to come back finally!

But one thing I have to ask. If you are going for that “Base Kit Compatibility”, Why not just increase it .5u more and go for Actual “Base Kit compatibility”?

It’s a small detail but it just seems so blasphemous to have every legend be a “correct” one with A Base kit.

But You would still have to buy a 40’s kit for that 1.75u Enter.

I'd like to see a 2.75u–2.25u split space option alongside the existing 2.25u–2.75u. Like a lot of people, I hit the spacebar with my left thumb and thus would like the left key to be larger.
