Gasket??? THOCC???

Hi keebord people! This is a TKL I have spent my time and all of my money on for the past year. I will never financially recover from this... I don't have the means to get more prototypes right now, here is what I have so far.

Material: 6063 Aluminium and Brass weight and SS Weight

Color: TBD

Plate: Sandblasted Polycarbonate / 5052 Aluminium - plates files will be made public later

Mounting: Gasket mount with 4mm NBR cords

PCB: Solder only - Designed by Sleepdealer (H88c NORTH variant compatible)

Typing angle: 6°

Front Height: 19mm without bumpons

Weight: ~2.3 kg built

I am aiming for the target price to be around 450-500 USD + shipping. The MOQ is 100 units with fnf units here and there.

Issues noticed:

Sparkles are there because I did not specify the grit blast with the manu. I talked to the manu and gave them specific grits for the finishing for the GB units.

Slightly tighter tolerance than expected - solved in Fusion.

Keys on r4 row are **ed up (see X and Y) - this was due to half-plate tolerance - now solved in Fusion.

The USB cutout of the case is slightly offset - this made the whole plate/PCB lean left. This is also now solved in Fusion.

i do not know if i would trust the GB units to be refinished properly unless you are getting another prototype from theim to verify that they can finish it properly. factories will often say they can do anything for you just so you place a bulk order with them. if you are still using the factory as you did for your prototype, I think you should reconsider.

personally i think you should just use a better factory instead of choosing these, and increase your price slightly. if someone is spending $500 on a keyboard of mediocre quality, i am sure they would spend $70 or more for high tier quality. it's not even just the finishing that this manufacturer is bad at, their actual machining and stuff is pretty bad too. they have crooked lines and dents and filleting that isn't properly round. just not good overall, but "good" for prototyping since they are so cheap at low unit count.

Hi! I appreciated your time giving me feedback. Right now I am looking at other factories that have a history of better QC. The prototypes that were shown are from 2 different 'ok' manus and I agree with you that they are pretty bad. I will reconsider them when I get the quotes from other manus if they are not significantly higher than what I have so far, but I would not push my target price over 500usd.

I really like the sparkly finish on the proto as well as the three color tones, hoping something like that will still be available for the production run but I understand changing it if you're not happy with the quality of the manufacturer.

Count me among the sparkle lovers. It's appropriate for the board's name, too -- butterfly wings have the same effect.
