repair broken tx1000 with tx2500 motherboard?
« on: Fri, 30 July 2010, 19:33:09 »
Ok, so I have a tx1000 that died from the graphics card problem these units are prone to failure with.  The graphics chip needs reballing. I ruined the faulty motherboard trying to do this, it wasn't quite hot enough and I tried to pry the chip off and tore the chip and the mobo connections.

Since there are a lot of amd fans here, my main question is that the tx2500z which uses an ati graphics chip and doesn't have the same problems, has a turion x2 ultra amd processor, but the tx1000's are from an earlier generation and aren't ultras.  They use the same socket.  The motherboards are almost identical, so a tx2500 motherboard should fit in the tx1000 case.  Will the memory/processor work in the newer board?

The tx2500z motherboards are exactly the same price as the prone to failure tx1000 boards on ebay... so why should I get one of the bad ones to replace it when I can get a newer one that works way better.
