Another couple of pictures! sample production is going well and we're still on track.

Unfinished weight, but shows the nice stuff.

So will this be a raffle group buy or first come first serve?

What’s with all the rgb? Thought this case did not have a diffuser and seems like a pointless way of driving the mfg cost up.

FCFS, I think the demand matches the numbers available.

Well the PCB is $30 so I don’t think it’s an issue. As far as I know they won’t have components soldered on, but it’s nice to have the future option without having to redesign. Same with the Alps mounting.

I kinda think you are underestimating the demand of ANY decent 65% right now. People are dying to get them and there are so few options that they sell out fast. The TGR-910 sold out in like a minute.

With the current market and having a huge number of people in this hobby a good design like this one and like X60 (which by the way I regret so much for not getting one) it will sell in minutes.

The PCB section on the first page says: "Presoldered Controller, Diodes & Resistors".
So the PCB does not come with that stuff presoldered? Thanks for answering.

We will see. I’ll make the times a fair release for everyone, but obviously it has to be the middle of the night somewhere.

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, those parts will be presoldered. There shouldn’t be any RGB LEDs presoldered.

Low quality plate pictures? Sure ;D

Top plate was a previous 68 layout, but since I added the blocker it has changed.

Bottom plate is mostly the universal plate, just without ISO (left shift and enter). I don't think I'll offer a full right shift (2.75u) as it takes away the fundamental feature of a 65% for me.

The X60's bottom piece had a thin lip machined around the contact surface with the top piece. I assume it was designed to help putting the bottom and top pieces in position relative to each other before fastening the screws. Will the 268 feature it too or some other kind of positioning bits?

I took the concept and improved it so there won't be any issues now. I've still got to physically test it, but it should be perfect now.

Should have some group buy news very soon :-*

Yeah. I've been told it's thick enough and there are no problems with production. I'll probably try and break it myself to see how strong it is.

I think the only concern is that it will be too easy to break, but metal boards don't really get moved much, and they're pretty soft anyway (think denting a board, and how easy that is). We'll see.

You said the plate will permit only 1.75–1 shift and not 2.75, but it looks like the PCB supports not only 1.75–1 and 2.75 but also 1–1.75, is that true? That is my preferred shift split and I would be very interested in getting a 65% that permits it even if I have to get a plate made later.

I've asked, but it does look that way. My plates will only support 1.75 1, as it's cleaner overall and without it, it'd take away the reasoning of the extra column.

Edit: Can confirm the PCB supports all three of those combinations.

I like the look that way.

Btw, I‘m still looking to get an X60, really dig yor designs. That‘s why I‘m even more excited about the 268 and hopefully don‘t have to deal with aftermarket issues and get one of your keyboards firsthand.

So it's the Mid-Autumn Festival/National Day in China which means the sample will be sent out when that ends, which is the 8th. Will take a couple of days for shipping, and then guess what happens after ;)

For now, I hope this picture of all the parts together satisfies until then.

Very close now :p

Also let me know what time I should open the buy at, preferably in EST. I'm thinking 4/5PM EST so far.

Is there any chance that we could get a partial poly plate that supports non-split backspace?

Interested in building a board with a partial plate but really dislike split backspace. My ideal layout would be something like this (stepped vs unstepped caps lock doesn't really matter though).

Looks great Xondat definitely excited for this group buy to happen. Those times work pretty well for me.

Also not sure if this was mentioned anywhere but what will the finish on the brass plates be?

I would like to offer partial polycarbonate if anything but annoyingly it's the most expensive material. I will probably have a few plates made with your layout + split backspace + normal caps lock.

Good to hear that time works.

They'll be a polished finish, something like this:

I'll be working with them to get exactly what they want. Might have to limit the amount so it doesn't become overwhelming though.

So other than the optional cerakote finish, are there any differences between the 268 and 268 AG? Will both be offered in blocker and blocker-less configurations?

The weight is the main difference. There is also pretty much infinite customization possible on the 268 AG, whereas 268 will just have a couple of case colors (not figured plates out yet).

They aren't meant to be too different, but if you want something unique, get the AG.

Yup. I meant more MOQ wise, but getting all the information needed soon.

White, beige, and industrial gray please :)

If I could only offer 3 colors, these would probably be the 3.

I want a TKL soon so guess I'll have to get one made; don't plan on visiting 66%. Thanks!

Yeah, annoyingly cerakote won't have the shine that, I think, makes that type of color. :'(

Just curious but what would a 66% board offer that a 65% doesn’t? They’re both very similar (60% + arrows + extra keys to the right). Is it the gap for the keys on the upper right side?

Just curious but what would a 66% board offer that a 65% doesn’t? They’re both very similar (60% + arrows + extra keys to the right). Is it the gap for the keys on the upper right side?

Agreed, it's all subjective. I do think 65% looks better but my reply was mostly poking fun.

@Xondat did I see you say navy blue as an option or was that for a future project?
