I Put It Back
« on: Wed, 04 November 2009, 22:10:33 »
Hello. My name is Tony and I am an addict...

Today, for the first time, I found - and didn't buy- a mechanical keyboard in a local thrift shop. It was difficult to not purchase it, but I resisted. It was a Dell AT101W for $3, dirty but functional. My pulse quickens whenever I see a keyboard in a thrift store wondering what it is... I have too many already but I still get the urge to get another one. I guess my wife was right when she said I was obsessive/compulsive. I didn't pass up the Selectric II though. :help:

This is not really the place to ask for help with a keyboard addiction. Most of us are in the same boat. Instead of helping you quit buying keyboards we will suggest some you don't have yet. Hmm lets see no Cherry browns or Blues that I can see in that list. Oh man you need to add a Model M space saver and a M13  as well. I could go on and on but I really don't want to tempt you too much :)

Myself I'm in recovery mode and really trying hard to resist getting more keyboards for the time being (after my bank account recovers a little more I'm going to quit this resistance stuff it is too hard).
Keyboards
Topre Capacitive: Realforce 87U, Realforce 86U, HHKB Pro 2, Topre MD01B0, Topre HE0100, Sun Short Type, OEM NEO CS (x2), NISSHO Electronics KB106DE

Cherry Brown: Filco FKBN87M/EB, Compaq MX11800
Black Alps: ABS M1
Not so great boards Rare Spring over dome OKI, Sun rack keyboard

Trackballs - Trackman Wheel (3), Trackman marble (2)
Keyboards I still want to get - Happy Hacking Keyboard Pro 2 the White version, Realforce 23U number pad in black and maybe white, μTRON ergo board with Topre switches.
Previously owned - SiiG MiniTouch (White Alps), Scorpius M10 (Blue Cherry), IBM Model M13

Lol some help you guys are. I would love a Topre I think, but that will have to wait until work picks back up...or maybe tax time. I am using the Keytronic Designer right now which may be a crude approximation of a Topre. I really enjoy this Keytronic board quite a lot.

The Selectric works well except for one problem. The print head binds on the left margin limiter sometimes on return. The key feel is superb. I wonder which feels better - beam spring or Selectric? Yikes- I have no beam spring either.
