[IC] Keydelabra - Artisan Keycap Stand
« on: Sun, 21 February 2021, 11:36:54 »
IC Form

Hello everyone!
I'd like to introduce the Keydelabra (a candelabra, for keycaps!)
I've struggled to find a good solution for displaying my artisan keycaps, and figured id share my idea with everyone.
This hopefully wont be a group buy. Depending on costs we will aim for this to be an in-stock item with no pre-order required.

Should also include adapters that would allow Topre or add an angle to the stand.

Im experimenting with a slight angle, im going to be 3D printing some prototypes soon, so i may update with an angle if it works better. I'll keep you posted, its a good idea.

Been looking for something like this for taking photos of artisans. Give me the ability to angle them and I'm in for a few!

Update - Keydelabra v2

Given the feedback, i have improved on the design to allow for flexible keycap positions, and also allows for different keycap connectors.

Rotational Mechanism
Inspired by stands for X-Wing board game, using strong neodynium magnets and a ball bearing.
Its possible to provide a very flexible positioning mechanism for your keycap on the stand. This then will suite a much wider variety of needs and scenarios for your stand display.

Please see main post for updated renders.

Next Steps
I am going to prototype this new design to find out the maximum keycap weight of the mechanism. This will dictate how well the positioning will perform.

In terms of feedback/suggestions, I highly recommend using some sort of soft rubber (or material) to minimize the damage or scratches that could happen onto an artisan stem.

I collect artisans myself and I would be afraid to use something that's too hard that might potential scratch my keycap.

The rotating mechanism sounds very interesting but I wonder if too many rotational position possibilities will make it hard to match if you have a lot of artisans?

Other than that, this is dope. I'm definitely down to get some.

Any pricing expectations?

This is beautiful! I imagine this will pair perfectly with Series 00.

Pretty bad taste to advertise your own stuff in another IC
